So it was running lower line pressure than it could/should have been. More slip, more heat, badness.

sounds promising, and like an explaination of the fast failure.

Hopefully gauges and pan arrive today, I should check shipping. Going to be a busy day at work and have some other running to do too..

updated.  700R4 is the trans that uses kick down for line pressure, not th350- scratch that

Jim:
I did change the valve body over from the core transmission. It worked so well before I figured it would be worth a shot. Your old 350 had a roller clutch fail. Nothing more than just being well used.

failure determined from running dry / heat

not much usful things left.

used most of the second core trans to build into first housing.  Built with summit valve body

input gear from trans pulled from car is BEAT up where TQ  mates- he said closely inspect TQ and or replace  :o

I think i have 1 or two under my apartment.

Trans in zj.  Jim comp'd all labor, and put 80$ in parts- i gave him a 100$

said to flush TQ and run the trans this weekend, then change fluid after this weekend.  If it doesn't last the rest of the year with added cooling and ok temp numbers- time either dump $$ into a custom350 full manual high pressure trans, or make room for a th400.  He really wants to help us find a solution with out multiple trans pulls- he understands intensive labor.

Milt and Ron's may have a converter in stock, I was just considering going down to the shop to pull the old one.

Looking at the book at Milt & Ron's, the pad/lug mount difference is the main thing, with a few having a 1/4" dia difference and an uncommon 6 pad mounting type

i honestly dont recal what is what.  i believe the TH400 converter that was left open in the shop was scrapped.  if there is one under my apartment, it was left full and tapped shut.  there may be another th400 one in the transmission that is there also that is ok.
