possibly this weekend

i tried 2 used 100$ transmissions once.

they lasted once to pull out of the trailer and drive around in 1 slipping gear, the other lasted almost all of a race.

even if you have to lossen 4 case bolts to give you and 1" or two more play room, i think with most of the wires moved from center consol, and changes for case levers needed anyway, changing up the chassis a little for in cab trans pull is the way id go at this point.

I have some very solid thoughts, hopefully my memory is close on what things look like under the floor and making things bolt in/out is as easy as I'm thinking. It's been a long time since I've been in there.

I'd probably have Jim look over a used tranny before I put it in service. Unless it really can become a <2hr job to swap.

Console, dash, shifters, tcase interlocks all need some adjustment.

I'm thinking I'll double shear the seat mounts and then make them pin mount so they come out in 5 min each incl belts once tins are off. Make the center console bolt in, 2 through the lower dash bar from the back side and one or two in back on tabs. Cable shifter has to come off one end or the other for trans removal anyway. Move remaining wiring to one side or the other instead of down the middle. Make tcase shifters fit through the floor panel for easy removal? another 2 minutes for the front seat cross bar. dzues fasteners for side tins and maybe the floor panels too?

Would make it MUCH easier to do future rear firewall changes for rad size/ mount/ airflow, too. 190Ëš all weekend, unless that 'stat has a BIG bleed hole, it still has a 160 in it. Rad is tip-top full. I know it's gonna get hot again. So I want to measure for those full race options, and think about oil cooling too. The planned air velocities for those nascar rads could be an issue but I think it's worth closer investigation. I'm tired of fighting heat.

or, since I think the whole center tunnel floor support needs to change/ become removable - maybe leave the floor tins attached in large part and take it out as an assebled unit, depending on size & weight & where attachment points land.

its a bunch of work i have thought about it.  a bunch of 1" square tubing will have to be removed and reworked that holds up the front fire wall and floor tins.

the case support tubing may also have to be moved.

not sure the pass seat needs to be pulled, possibly Tcase shifters and that could stay if reworked.

i have thought about doing this more than once, have always just pulled the motor the old fashioned way.

I have a sneaking suspicion the case may need to move a bit. Would be nice if not, but we'll see... If it just needs to be unbolted and twist out of the way a bit, having the whole floor open would still be a huge help.

i have a long tail 4l60e

lower first and over drive is a key advantage i love in my car

4.10's are great for racing but not much else  :-[

I run the 4L60E and 4.10    feels perfect for me      maybe its the 2.72 in the 241

2.0 to 2.72 is a similar difference to the 2.5 to 3.0 first gear difference. You have both of those advantages!

the other comment made is all TH350's are not a like- the newer cores are light duty and have clutches taken out of them.  the end solution is getting the proper core, and machining stuff to add even more clutch packs-  still black box to me

Why not buy a high end built trans?

Or th400, or burn the whole car and collect insurance? :)

the summit trans i bought  had burned up clutches after2 races and had a loose valve body bolt when we changed to a deep pan.  Jim went through it and it last 1.5 years more.
