no dice on initial close inspection.

things I didn't do: close investigation of TIPM, getting underneath and looking at wiring condition from there, pulling any harness wrap

I did JUST have a thought as I type, which is 80% the reason I keep build threads: I have seen identical behavior (I forget on what rig) when a harness is rubbed through and something is grounding/shorting and giving ECU bad values. Could be leftover harness parts underneath for formerly present parts. Would expect a code but if it's just shorting something like a +5v signal generator that is shared or makes other things undervolt.... That's almost gotta be it. And then I think more likely underneath.

The similar failure was the red XJ rubbing some harness on the front driveshaft leaving St. George

I wonder if I fully fixed that properly? I don’t remember.

ABS code set for LEFT front wheel sensor

Only Ecu codes are still for fuel level sensor
P0462, P0463

Dozen miles on and half an hour of run time, hasn’t acted up yet.

Went over battery cables another time, snugged up one positive that I think runs to the starter. Barely loose.

Did catch a graph of the battery charge level fluctuation.

Ooh, it just gave a weird rev while idling here. Rail pressure spiked. Twice in a minute.
I could believe a rail pressure issue would cause all symptoms. CP3 starting to give issues? Rail pressure regulator? I have a rail plug in the glove box.

rev is inaccurate, but a change in sound. it did it reliably after I got back home. zero drivability issues in over an hour and probably 40 miles.

internet says this solus ultra should be able to not only give me rail pressure but also commanded rail pressure and FCA duty % which would be incredibly useful and perhaps fully diagnostic, but I didn't find that under the checkbox options, and I haven't found instructions to get there. digging...

Found the extra data, I was in the wrong place.

Refired the truck, it is cycling higher pressure still. Commanded pressure is 5k but everything else is asking for more (7200 or so) on a cycle of a couple seconds.

HMM

But data

Duty cycle vs measured pressure are offset. I think that tells me the actuator is sticking of the pumps response is lagging.

The duty cycle ramps up, then pressure spikes and I hear the tone of idle change and duty cycle cuts as soon as pressure climbs.

Ecu is demanding 5428psi
Baseline supplied is 4500ish
Duty cycle ramps but supplied doesn’t react until it overshoots to 8-11k psi all at once

Above idle it reacts great. So maybe this is a separate issue but it’s newish and worsening.  I’d noticed this idle tone change for just the past few months.

FCA changed. Easy job.

No symptoms after test drive and some idle time. Less miles and time than previous drive and data session but hopeful it could be it.
Actual pressure and duty cycle graphs look entirely different than before, and much more normal. It’s also maintaining the pressure instead of being low as a baseline.

Daily driver status this week to monitor for repeat symptoms.

467,075 or so for the sensor change.

made up for the easy and cheap fix by misplacing my ignition key again.

Been 10 years, might be time to get a second key made. It turned up in the wash after almost a week last time I couldn't find it. I was a day away from towing it to the dealer then, it was while I was roofing Norman Rd. I remember it very clearly, I was certain it had ended up in the dumpster somehow. the remote keyless hasn't worked since then but it has never missed a beat starting the truck. Only fails when absent.

On my first Jetta I took the little pill out of a good key and put it inside the steering column so a dumb key would work. I cut 2 dumb keys but I only have the one with a good RFID tag, presently misplaced.

Hoping that admitting my shame of losing a key will jog my memory on where the flying fuck it could be. I drove the truck all through 2 weeks ago, and remember carrying the key on my every day keys for a couple days into the next week but I can't place where I put it after that. Was almost certainly on 5/13 or 5/14 but that doesn't help me much. humbug!

Camper roof, on top of the ac

I don’t remember taking them off a belt loop or out of a pocket up there so I bet they were falling out of my hoodie pocket.
