High Miler

Yeah yours doesn’t feel bad at all. I need to remember the 6.7 isn’t a 12 valve with fixed timing.

And I use mine less than ever for anything other than towing and hauling.

Truck did something weird on the way to the dump just now. Uncommanded accelerator input. Did it in 3-4 sessions, sometimes along with dash going crazy. Didn’t go WOT but more like 75% or so, and would flicker.

I pushed the clutch in once and RPM swung idle to 3200. Key off for a second reset it all but once. The last time it happened I was stopped (it was as I was turning into the dump, so I pulled over on the shoulder and stopped. definitely didn’t want to maneuver - much less around other people and things - in that state). It would not crank. Accessories worked, voltage only read 12.0. Popped the hood, looked for obvious harness or battery cable issues where they’re easy to see. Nothing observed and nothing hot. After that voltage was good and it fired and ran fine. Shut if off a couple times in the lot, no start issues and no uncommanded accelerator input. Was fine all the way home.

I don’t think it’s ever done anything similar.

New battery cables included new battery ground to block for sure, and I think new engine-body-frame connections too but I need to check those and look for any chew spots on all harnesses

I need to bring my OBD dongle next drives and log voltage and accelerator input. I thing there common rail trucks have electronic throttle at the pedal, but this sure reminds me a bit of APPS issues on smike’s 24v

Only other symptom which has been around for a year or two is a flakey fuel gauge. It logs errors for both open and short intermittently. I assume something on top of the tank is chewed, probably would be fair to check that too. I’m sure that can’t help. Of course I am 80 miles into a 52 gallon tank. Might be an excuse to pull the bed for headache rack and paint work if I have ambition, and get crane fittings built on it.

hmm that sounds fun.

trucks suck ha

also my 01's issues had nothing to do with apps or vp44, it was diagnosed as bad ECM and dealer replaced / no issues after.

Oh that’s right. I remember it ended up at dealer for diagnostics and we were chasing APPS but forgot where resolution ended up.

I think I’ll take it for groceries now and see if it acts up again. If it doesn’t repeat I think that’ll be worse. I’d like to have something to actually FIX when it’s a long trip machine

No issues to Tops. Also found that I can’t see abs wheel speeds so I can’t see which sensor is not working and taking away my cruise control :(
I was hoping this reader would do that but the dodge Ecu doesn’t present that and I can’t find a PID table quickly to try and go digging

I did have one tiny accelerator hiccough on the way home from Tops. Not enough to see it on my graphs and the dash didn’t glitch, so no more info other than it’s not gone.

I’ll argue with myself if I should drive the truck up to work one day and grab the roller and do a quick scan or a more though scan looking for issues, or keep it closer to home.

I don’t really want to drop a driveline getting 100/0/100/0/100 accelerator position, or have to key cycle it 18 times while work commuting, or get stranded (anywhere at all, really). Not sure how I want to try to track this down.

I took it to Victor to a lunch meeting today. It died just as I arrived… We’ll see if it brings me home or not? I did get some data, but nothing immediately clear. Maybe voltage or ECU issue?

After lunch: started and ran, no issue.

OBD dongle will not negotiate or connect
EDGE CTS Will not connect.
Dashboard is fine, overhead computer is fine, exhaust brake still works…

I have a couple other computers and programmers to try to see if it’s alive…

Couple key cycles and the Smarty programmer could talk to it. Decided to gamble a programming attempt, probably should not have.

Not sure if the key cycles mattered or the programming mattered. Probably key cycles. OBD dongle and EDGE both OK now

No driving hiccoughs on the way home

Low tech logs (screen recording) show low voltage and a pretty big mismatch between ecu volts and OBD measured volts. Chasing power and ground is the place to start.
