put some miles on this thing today.  its functional.  talking with work people sounds like the shudder is the torque converter that has some vans let go.

threw up on the lift. serviced front brake sliders, replaced missing bolts, starter inspecting ever thing.

under body clean.

changed wheel spacers to 2" instead of 1.5" with missing studs and missing inner lug nuts  :o

gona try to cut and stretch rear links 1-1.5" in the rear to fit 35 SCRs.  eventually i think this thing is 1ton swap and 40's worthy.

night two on this guy.  serous progress.

adjustable rear control arms found to have super long threads, and i was able to safely increase the length of all 4 links by 1.5" to clear 35"s in the forward portion of the rear fender well, and trimming in the rear portion of the rear wells.

Front was good with a fender trim fix and ARB bumper trim.

Found front CV drive shaft to have exploded and shot CV joint at case.  was hopping that was my low speed shudder but no good.

trans was 1.5 quarts low

returned from a test drive, radiator hose torn and spraying. fixed.

runs mint looks mint.  started tending to things like bulbs and headliner fixes.

needs a good vacuuming but driving tomorrow!

rear stretch and trim i did last night worked out great

front trim fix also really cleaned up the lines.

ill throw some rock sliders on it to get rid of the only 4 rust holes on the truck.  rest of truck 100% clean with some southern clay red mud on it!

blown out, vacuumed, and changed a rear brake light bulb!  solid night of wrenching!

found that blower motor goes high when you touch a random wire hanging from under the dash to ground lol

its hot.

i think this thing is starting in 2nd though

reading says Governor Pressure Sensor and Solenoid may be the issue, or sometimes down stream o2 frayed / shorting wires flake out the GPS&S reading.

my first jeep was a 95 4.0 with same 42RE trans.

the TCM failed and it stuck in 3rd all the time.

sounds like a different issue, but just FYI.

this thing shudders off the line, maybe slipping, some time squeels, seems very sluggish to 30MPH or so, then high gear and OD are ok.   somp on it doing 45, it down shifts and goes.

guess i need to pay more attention and adjust the wheel so i can see the tach also would help lol

reverse no issues.

I experienced a lot of 2nd or 3rd gear start (usually called as limp mode) with the 47re my dodge. 42-48re are relatively same on how they work.

To get your first gear; must be completely stopped, put the shifter in neutral and wait for a second or two at minimum then manual shift *straight* to 1st  gear then you should have your first gear again. When you're moving, manually up shift to confirm you have the 1-2-3-4 shifting. You'll need to come to a complete stop to shift back in neutral then shift straight to 1st again to get the 1st gear back for the take off.

Don't drive it too much if it's actually don't take off in first gear or you'll cook the trans quick.

The jeep don't throw any codes for the trans? They usually have codes set when either the governor transducer or the solenoid is malfunctioning.
