Deep lack of motivation. I think I need to take a day off to dig into this, not try to get it done after work. Work is still too workey to do work after.

Yup. Ruffstuff backerdered on something.

I shoulda gotten one extra of the 7/8-3/4 so I’d have a complete spare set but I didn’t.

Want to get the front wheel bearings changed, longer bolt put in the rear link, and double shear those 7/8 bolts.

Still no motivation to work on it. Would probably be fine as is...  bleh

Double shear made up. Wheel bearings tightened. Steering bolt swapped, wasn’t bad heim. May see what’s in stock at fastenal in 3/4 fine. Existing was fully threaded and threads are hammered.

Dig out a welder and swap a link bolt tomorrow. Find some punch balloons for 2 vents.

Put the GoPro washer together if ambitious.

Antenna and window nets are in joe. Can’t wait to do the hauler shuffle again!

I’d imagine heim joints will last longer if you cut up some piece of rubber into  ‘washers’ (thicker and to be compressed when tightened) between steering arms and the upper part of the double shear bracket (or washer if single shear). To keep dirt out... if ambitious enough, add a grease zerk to it too.

I’d think it shouldn’t move (& hammered on thread) if it was torqued properly?

Per Fastenal: A properly torqued 3/4” fine thread grade 8 bolts will have 33,566lbs of clamping force when torqued to 357 ft•lbs (clean, dry, zinc coated)

threads of a bolt will get hammered. fact of non-shank loading, the contact patch is minimal, psi is sky high.

Technically the shank (or threads) shouldn’t be load-bearing, tho. But, I’m wondering are heims able to handle 3/4” G8 bolts’ clamping force when torqued to spec?

There's theory, then there's practice. I don't care how high the clamping force is, any play there is WILL hammer on bolt threads and cause wear/damage when subjected to suspension or steering loads for years.

I used the proper non-thread shank length and cut down the threads as needed.

that's the way to do it. Load on the shank, longest shank possible.

ready as she'll get! Hopefully the right front tire has one more race in 'er. That's the massively patched one, and it's like a 2 or 3 day tire now. My current spare is a leaker too so nothing to be gained.
Tired tires. I think I need to think about some Trepadors.
Also need to do axle u joints. play in the Nitro garbage and the CTM needs a rebuild too.

Hopefully done at work around 3 tomorrow and on the road by 5? I think I can get away without shopping again beyond ice.
