pushed a lot of snow this morning, might need to put some drive SCRs on the front for winter instead of steer cuts, but other wise she hawgs pretty good with the new to it transmission.

it does want to stall now though when going from revers to drive or drive to reverse.  need to google that and see if its something that can be fixed / adjusted.

3.54 gears are blown.  i started dissasembly thinking it was an 8,25 which i had a used set in my pile- realized its a D35 bah.

i have a YJ 3.07 gear set that i think is the same and could pull the front drive shaft

i kinda need the jeep this week.  RAM is blue sticker, needs brakes and tires and inspection done bah

I guess if i slap in the 3.07s in ill confirm YJ sets are same to a ZJ D35, and either order a 50$ used gear set off ebay,  I do have a used set of 4.56 gears for the front low pinion D30, so i could commit a sin and order 4.56 gears for the D35 lol bah

best i can tell says all D35 gear sets are same across all jeep yj XJ MJ ZJ WJ  with maybe a different pinion seal and spider gear differences of course.

amazon has 139$ 4.56 D35 gear sets and i already have the 3.54 and up carrier.  have mismatched stuff for the front in stock.  i guess ill go that way, but to get it off the lift it will get 3.07s slapped in it.  its already apart and C clip, o well.

ill stop rambling about this misfortune now

I have the D35 3.54 ring and pinion from my Comanche sitting in a box at home. 190k or so on them. If you can confirm they'll fit, I can ship to you. It's an early non c-clip axle, not sure what other differences may exist.

Bummer, I was just home last week

still plows snow with a few pinion teeth missing  :o

once the transmission warms up it shudders and stalls/locks up in reverse- i guess this trans has always been like this since installed i just didnt notice till plowing.  annoying.

i think its time for a new wonder this year sometime.

more 42RE sighs.

trans performs 100% cold, but very shortly once it warms up begins to want to "stay locked up" when coming to a stop (occasionally), and after a short drive will lock and stall engine if you shift to reverse (100% of time warm) from park/neutral.  like if you pull into a parking spot at a store, it better be a pull through...

my research shows:

could be issue with brake switch not giving signal to unlock TC
bad TCC solonoid
bad TC (less than 500miles on new TC when trans installed)

not really anything i can find that sounds like a smoking gun

annoying!

i have had this transmission out twice now, and i have fixed or bipassed cooler lines at least 2 other times.

how is it that i did not realized until today there is a check valve in one of the cooler lines?

i was flushing out the cooler with air and noticed it only going one way.  pulled the pan and valve body today and did the HD upgrade kit.  filter and magnet was packed with fines but not chunks or hard parts in the pan.

if this doesn't change it, im guessing the new torque converter has failed or the lockup solenoid is intermittently bad.

and zero change with the 42RE fix kit, filter, fluids.  another 150$ down the drain.

i guess next will be a brake light switch and then a lockup solenoid- but its probably better to just get another jeep.  really sad this TN truck still has no exterior rust and isnt falling apart.
