Had to overbore the ID of the 2x.25 to fit a 1.64ish OD of the bearing.

Shortcut to avoid rebuilding chassis side mounts until I bother to do aluminum rear links and any potential wheelbase or related rear structure changes.

Lug nut and air pressure check, throw a spare up high on the back, add a few zip ties for rear brake and vent lines, and make sure seats and tins are secure, and this old girl is ready to hallowheel

I need to reread tech rules on required battery isolation.

The little batteries I got were great for a couple years but I think I’ve used up their cycles. Shot on 571 when I moved and wouldn’t start Gus in the cold a few weeks ago. Need more bigness.

Under center console or reorganizing the whole back of the car seem to be my options that aren’t too tree exposed for my taste.

Or I guess I could consider it a maintenance item every few years. Cheaper than the tires I need by FAR

the backup (same vintage AGM got moved to ZJ duty mid plow season.  seems to be holding up well.

heard core is now 30$ at interstate for blems that are still 54$

something that might help your car not suck on starting is drilling to a larger free air hole in the throttle blade, to give higher idle RPM but also allow the IACV not rammed out to 100% at idle and have range to make more idle when it needs as it shifts to drive gear under load.

picked that up from the Lite Brite dyno video FYI  lol

That’s a great idea. Idle sucking and a battery that won’t start it again is keeping me from putting it in joe right now. Don’t want to stall it and have to run extension cords!

I don’t think we ever looked at IAC duty when playing with tunes.

I would love to work on getting it to run better. Almost want to move it to the microsquirt I have since I should be able to leave the 1.8t on VW computer.

Decided to swap the small battery and leave things as-is (mainly due to lazy).

There are a few lithium options i saw that don’t look bad nor fearfully expensive but a cheap lithium battery seems potentially risky on a car that gets banged around. The amp-hour capacity is quite similar in a given dimension (the size I’m running now is a 30aH battery with 350ish cca depending on brand of agm). It’s just a weight and cranking amp benefit.

Quality labeling. Started and ran. First start it say at 2,000 rpm. Second it was where expected.

Little welding tonight and I should have 2 cars to play with for the weekend.

Wreck wheel ready. Couple more hours looking over should find whatever will stop it from completing 20ish miles at race pace, I hope?

Felt good ripping around the property 1/2doz laps. Got a lil adrenaline going!

Probably should change plugs sometime. Felt like a slight miss until it fully warmed up. I don’t think I kept a set in stock.

Decided I’ll spend the time to swap rear springs. Should lower the rear just over an inch. I have spare up top on the rear now and it’s about 1.5” high. No tools on board currently. Math puts 600# on each rear spring which passes sanity. Will go from 98ppi to 86ppi. Hopefully works out as intended. Ride height probably more important for short course than woods.

Other short list is wire tail lights and make a spare tire mount and bumper. Then it’ll be line mountain ready.

Couldn’t find the light plugs from the ripped-off tire carrier. May have to just replace, but I KNOW they should be around. Probably with the spare mud muncher setup I couldn’t find either.

Can't get the damn spring cap off the lower eye.

Lower eye bearings are shot. I'm sure it needs all 8, then.

First heat was fun. Second heat I cut a tire being impatient and trying to have a race with Andy in that pro2

That dumb white and red Toyota that rarely runs right STOPPED crossing the start/finish at the green flag and I cut a tire on his bumper. I’m madder than I should be
