I have a AMD Ryzen 7 2700x 32gb of DDR4 ram and a 1060 video card. It is plenty for video editing. I think the 1660 is the replacement for the 1060 card now.

I can render and still use the computer.

Newegg has had almost exact same setup for over $100 less that I've shared with Tom the difference there being a 1660 vs the 2060 which gives no benefit to video editing

That's slow as hell and will cause video editing issues if you work from it.

What speed's the hdd? 5.4krpm?

Do you mean slow as in transferring from PC to hd, or editing speeds? If your working on a project you should have the files on your main drive ,then transfer to the external once your done

that sounds super annoying and not what i had planned.

transfer from SD to PC
edit on PC
render
transfer project to external
move raw files to external

then if you want to resume editing, its a remapping cluster to individually map each clip location.

fail.

https://www.diyphotography.net/how-to-use-blackmagic-disk-speed-test-on-a-pc/

Evaluate speed and video resolution support with Black Magic Speed Test. I guess it’s a little annoying to install on windows.

Working off externals that are quick enough is perfectly acceptable IMO

ok still cranking on this process.

I think i need to up grade my PC, and my transfer device of microSD to WD Elements 10TB HD.  still only seeing 10-14MB/s data transfer.  takes about 25min to get files from gopro card to HD for editing (meh)

im using openshot editor which seems to fit my needs.  i cant view 1080 at 16x though so that adds some faith in editing.  rendering a 10-20 min video is now pushing 4hours with an unusable PC during that time.

im really ignorant on this computer stuff- i have tried to research but its an endless loop of decisions.  i guess im looking for something adequate in the sub 800$ range or cheaper to fund a newer go pro next.

any suggestions - links to deals?

like this but more RAM and better GPU?

I’d look for a used gaming PC with 16gb ram and a 1070 for a bit less money than that and it will be 10x faster than what you’re using.

Wish I had fresh hand me downs but nothing is getting replaced yet.
