Gen 3/4 smallblock GM schtuff
« on: February 15, 2017, 05:05:08 PM »
careful with gen 3 vs gen 4- there are a few differences but doesnt look too terrible.

the cutoff for DBW throttle body isn't as clean as just gen 3/4, is it? there's some overlap of DBW into Gen 3, and some other changes beyond that for Gen 4? I'm not really up on that. If I'm shopping I certainly should be.

I expect I'd need harness, ECU, and accelerator for anything Gen 4. Hopefully accessory mounts and belt spacing match.
I'd probably be OK with just the long block for any Gen 3? TB would probably swap over from mine to DBW but could be smaller than what it's replacing which isn't helpful.

I don't know about accessory mount holes, accessory spacing, motor mount changes, trans pattern & spacing changes.

All this probably belongs in a different thread.

I went through all the local CL LS motors a day or three ago. most interesting are
2011 65,000mi 5.3 $1600 https://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/5981614288.html
2011 van motor 6.0, "needs rebuild", $1000 https://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/5959164763.html
2007 100,000mi Trailblazer SS LS2 6.0 $1400 (as I recall that's one of the very most desirable 6.0 isn't it?) https://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/5997507668.html

I remember reading a lot about this. If I remember correctly the biggest thing you'll need to watch out are the # of notches on crankshaft for the crankshaft position sensor.

That only sounds like an issue if mixing & matching ecms and motors?

Timely discussion. I'm looking at some of this too because of water pump clearance and fitting LS6 manifold with DBW...

that link led me to a very resourceful website!

http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/parts-catalog.html

For example the "LS & LSX Components" link to PDFs and they have useful information in them. Especially how to properly install MAF, PCV, ECM connectors pinouts and more.
