Amp draw
« on: January 01, 2017, 10:09:26 AM »
So for the last 4 months if I let the jeep sit 2 days it will not start unless jumped. I disconnected the negative terminal and placed a multi-meter set to dc amps from the cable to the terminal and see a 3.5-4 amp draw. i have taken off all the extra stuff like the rock lights, winch, led bar, I also have all the fuses pulled from the behind glove box . When pulling under hood fusses it finally goes off when the ASD is pulled. when placing fusses back in i see it shoots back up to 4 amps and stays when the radio, acc, or the mfsw , or asd are placed back does not matter what order. If i unplug the radio it will not spike up when the radio fuse is  in  place. Does anyone know what the ASD, Radio, Acc, and MFSW share in common?

The ASD is "Auto Shut Down"

This sounds like it's related to ASD or bad ignition switch. Try swap out ASD relay with a known good relay. The relay may be stuck closed when it's supposed to be open, drawing amp while sitting.

I could be wrong on this but I don't think I am:
if the ASD relay was failed and stuck closed (read: on), I don't think the engine would shut down.

Maybe. But PCM or ASD still may think the key is in "on" or "acc" position

Swapped battery for a known good one, replaced all fused behind glove box and under hood. Letting sit from yesterday afternoon  till now and the battery dropped from 12.59 to now it's at 12.57... that seems reasonable drop right?

that doesn't seem unreasonable, but seeing more than an amp key off draw doesn't seem reasonable. you can probably find a published spec on what it's supposed to be.

no source given, but an early post in this thread quotes 0.04a as acceptable key off draw.
that seems awfully low, I'd expect a tenth or two off the top of my head.

Yeah all I find online is .05 amp is norm. I could also be using an amp meter wrong!

post a picture of the readout you're seeing, if you can do that? should be able to verify your settings and that you're reading it right. I bet you're not doing it wrong espc if you're running batteries dead.
