M4 Ball Joint press
« on: September 30, 2013, 10:40:56 AM »
MLC Ball joints were in there like it was they job.  most suborn set i have ever done to date- i got mad enough and finally made a tool that i have been thinking about every time i do them.

2 hours of frustration beating and heating things like normal ball joint press with no progress
10 minutes of fabrication
5 minutes to remove 4 ball joints.
5 minutes to install 4 ball joints.

Hmmm... Maybe the other guys did see the problems with MLC, but decided they didn't want to manufacture a solution. I'm taking it for granted that they don't need any of my $$ which means that unless I can provide all the TLC that MLC needs, she'll be coming to see M4.

we had a small engineering discussion on the tensile strength of 3/8"x1.5" mild steel.  decided "it would be fine" for 6 ton on each side.  Top and bottom is 2x2 .250 wall as short as possible for bottle base.

keep squinting....

I'm tempted to do some maths on psi, but I can't really see a point in shear psi and the vertical pressure is just a known quantity somewhere between 8000 and 24000#. that's not so interesting...

that's some crazy shear resistant rust.
