New Style Jeep
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:59:45 AM »
Did some recovery work last night and pulled 2 pickups burried to the frame out of a swamp one being a new Power Wagon.  Today the jeep has no electricity after sitting on a battery charger all night and won't start.  Thinking it is not the awesome excide orbital since it held a charge reverse lights were stuck on in gear and neutral yesterday and some funky dash lights so its being towed for some repair work.  Has anyone had alternator issues from too much winching?

take the battery out, let the CPU system reboot

you really should not charge a battery while it’s still hooked up to a vehicle.. unless its specifically a maintainer or goes through the cig lighter..

messes up the computer…  have at least one person each year leaving storage who learns this the hard way.
I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

it certainly could make sense to me that as the batt dies the computer could get angry and store some corrupt values, and then without disconnect it could be unhappy even with voltage again.

the charger thing could make sense too depending on how clean and accurate of a 14v it's sending out.

the capacitors in the computer also store a charge so unless its disconnected for a while it retains memory of faults and code.. also your favorite radio stations ;D

i test this shit for a living-
auto manufactures cant rely on what shitty jap chargers say on the side / unfortunatly we have to idiot proof things.

GM requires a 26volt jump start test- SMOV (static minimum operating voltage) for most components is 5.5-6.2Vdc
i cant imagine DXler requires component failure anything less

Being that the system is so "smart" i doubt there are any CPU issues.

i would guess smoked alternator and dead cell in the battery, but i would have to observe 1 or 2 things

well I’m glad the Japs and the Americans have it down... but all the German cars we try jumping  or have chargers not tenders always leave with a CEL on..

that JK German or Italian?

Alternator checks out at the shop truck had probably 10 minutes of winching last night in 3 minute pulls of almost stalled out. Were gonna test the battery cause it runs OK off a jump box

if it runs off the jump box that's 100% battery.

boo. second Excide orbital I've seen fail after some abuse :(
