MY CJ5
« on: October 05, 2012, 08:31:27 PM »
link to the thread on Early CJ5....

http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?72809-My-196x-CJ5-Build/page6

but here is the skinny..

WOW... has it been this long...
took this Jeep out of moth balls today and threw it on a trailer...

Life has gotten in the way of my little project.... building a business empire, tending to a new 16 month son, moving and general other stuff...
I have managed to tend to others in my flock, and acquire some more... but this CJ needs a jump start....

I have decided to not throw in the towel, but pass it along for a bit to SVE performance in CT...
Bill has agreed to give me a nice jump start and get this project back rolling....

More updates and hopefully and end in site....

this is the whole reason why I got a fire under my ass....
Michael loves my trucks... he plays in them, grabs the wheel and moves the levers...

this jeep started off for him and would like to get it done for me...

Bill finally got the parts and started to work on this guy...

ends up the 4cyl firewall and the 6cyl firewall are a tad different..  obviously only something bill would know and where most of us would have taken a hammer, bill sourced a 6cyl firewall and made the adjustment the correct way...

2 new sets of wheels for the CJ...
unsure what offset or wheel size to use as of now..
need to check steering stops and disk brake swap fitment..
5 are 15x7 and 4 are 15x8 on 31's
both are OEM CJ wheels..

after spending about $2500 in the last 3 weeks, buying parts, hunting things down, getting excited about having this truck ready for the spring..
I got a phone call last night that there was a roof collapse @ SVE....
Roads are still not passable in CT and cant physically get eyes on the issue.

sure the CJ is and will be fine...
its the fact that everything is now going to be delayed like crazy...

He might end up moving the shop.. even if not, repairing is downtime etc...

also.. my CJ and every other jeep thats not "restored" is on a simple Geico policy.. (cheap and not tied to my home or company)

where I would walk away with a HUGE check if it were the LR or YJ....

News in CT was saying it was gusting 85mph at the shore during the worst of it. Nearly another Sandy, except it was snow to plow not sand after this one.

Hartford was still a shitshow when I left at 7. 1 lane two way streets 4" deep of loose snow. Plow trucks stuck. Weekday parking lots just starting to be plowed - with pickup trucks. Talking multi-acre lots and 2' of snow.

They plain can't handle it there, it seems.

I hope the CJ is okay, and that Bill and SVE are too.

i dont know if anywhere cab really handle 40" of snow...

i would bet Rochester NY would have a hard time with 40" of snow in 24 hrs....

Bill told me the snow was so light and fluffy even his XJ on 35" tires down @ 5psi wouldn't make it much more than 15 feet down the road before having to head back....

just insane.. wish i was @ my parents house to see it.

definitely light snow. I didn't bring my snowshoes but I bet they'd have been completely useless.  It was really light stuff, it was in the low 20s/high teens when it was falling, not much moisture content.

Hartford County got 20-24"
I know Rochester SUCKS at side street plowing, but this would be like Main St being plowed 8' wide at intersections and 16' wide for the rest, and Court and Exchange and similar being 4" deep rutted 7' wide with 2 way traffic, 2 days after the snow.
