4LE60 help
« on: September 06, 2016, 07:11:54 PM »
Cousin swapped a known working tranny (but had sat for 2-3 years) into his pickup with blown tranny.
First problem: no reverse. He was told to drive it...maybe something had set up and would free itself. No go. Drained fluid,  looked fine, refilled, still no reverse.
Second problem: blowing fluid out the vent. Known overfill issue. Could this be the only cause or is he having potential cooling issues with the trans cooler? (Or could reverse issue be related?)
I know it's not much to go on,  but figured you guys had a ton of experience with this thing to maybe have stumbled across similar issues.
* also note: no mechanical trans temp gauge. *

Re: temp issue - it takes quite a while for a trans to get hot enough to spew it's fluid. I'm talking like 15+ minutes if no cooler and not working it hard. ECU may have trans temp info in it.

Re: no reverse - sounds like a frozen or shorted solenoid.

Sounds like the “known good“ isn’t so good.
