UA YJ
« on: July 20, 2015, 11:12:10 PM »
After looking for a few weeks, and trying to decide what would work out well for family wheeling, UA trip, and desert driving, I found this Jem and the holograms on the Pirate. After going over what it would cost to build this, and the time it would take, I decided it was a good deal and went ahead with it. After some negotiations and him pretty much calling me as ass for offering such a low price, he came down to close to my offer.

He is in backwoods Colorado, so we agreed to meet in Grand Junction CO, about 30 miles across the Utah/Colorado border on I70.

I registered it today, and took it our for a drive. Its got mucho power, shift very firmly, and drives nice and straight. Took it in the desert, the springs are way too stiff and the spools need to go. Selectable lockers are at the top of the list, driving on the road with spools is not fun, squealing tires around every turn gets annoying.

It needs some things, but overall its great and can be wheeled as is.

List of things needing attention (In order of importance)

Back seat and harnesses for the kids
Softer springs they have 250/200 on them now, yes 250 top and 200 bottom all around, with negative pre-load. the adjuster is all the way to the top.
Replace spools (look at 35-splice upgrade for 9" from 31 spline)
Painless wiring harness, its all stock wiring now. Kind of a mess.
Research front axle options

now that I've watched it: yea, seriously hate you...

what do you think of the virb? Looks like it's essentially a gopro with other data fields? Would make a better dashcam with those overlays if it had support for features the gopro is missing like auto record and not running super hot.

I like it a lot. It has wifi to connect the phone. The editing software is easy to use. The data overlay is the main reason I bought it. You can get obd2 adapters to sync up data as well. I would like to be able to overlay the map on Google maps with satellite. I bet you can but I'm not that computer literate.
