Brother in law practically stole this thing. 1988 (we believe) 4.2L, stick, with no title so it's going to be a trail rig only. Zero frame rot- was never on the road. Previous owner used it in Colorado to haul logs for his firewood. Chains and hooks dangling all over the thing. Huge Ramsey winch (I think about the same one MikeMike has on the Dakota) works great although mounted in the most bush-mechanic-craptastic way ever. No windshield glass, doors or top.
To Do: Wiring is a cobbled mess. Fix and get charging system back up to proper working order
Remove random chains and hooks.
Ditch winch frame thingy (bolted into body tin by 2-9/16" bolts. lol) And move onto front bumper.
No grille... rig up something for lights? Fender Support?
Roll cage of some sorts. B-pillar is there but tie bars to windshield long gone. We want something safer anyway.
Questions: Leafs are about dead flat on this thing. We'd like a touch more belly clearance without driveline problems. Budget is extremely tight. Any suggestions on something junkyard based or used?
I'm giving him my 35's to use. I know the axles won't be long for the world, but being open/open, if I train him to keep off the pedal he should be safe-ish for a bit. (We'll try to source some replacement shafts for the time being)
Now, best way to stuff them.....Fender trimming/removal is our goal here. We could care less about coverage so just hack away?
Any suggestions for mentioned problems or ideas for easy upgrades welcome!
