Just got new front rotors, calipers, pads
Rear rotors turned and new pads.
Tires rotated

Insides of all four rotors were trashed. Brakes are massively better than even the day we brought it home in probably October or November.

Needs a RF tie rod outer boot, I didn’t have one deep enough in stock for IFS
Might need a left rear caliper. I think the only thing that could ruin rotors like that is dragging brakes, and that one is by far the warmest after a test drive. I’ll give it a day. Only the left front looked bad, one piston had a bad seal and inner pad was worn crooked.

Brake lathe worked pretty well. Learn more every time I use it. I never did make parts to make it work on the dually








With the Ram down, it had to play truck on Saturday for trash and an oil pickup from a repeat supplier. Adding a thousand pounds told me how bad the brakes really were. They’d gotten a lot worse since December Montréal trip, last time I put many miles on it. Brakes were quite urgent.

Costs me more in time to run to Victor to grab it than it does in dollars. Those are $16/day incl tax.

This one happened to cost about $80 though - forgot to mention that the trailer wiring module was shot. Didn't pass anything, and also turns out it was wired backwards for the turn signals from whoever Dad had install it... Had to replace it from UHaul retail priced stock due to timing, but got that done in about 15m in the parking lot to get the trailer before closing.

I wouldn't hesitate to grab a small cargo trailer with ramp from them any time. With those rates it's hard to justify buying one.

No worries - hope the time crunch isn't for any bad reasons.

Worst of the used pads slapped on the sticky corner. Cool after a test drive with new clean piston exposed.

Rockauto calipers 40% the cost of Advance, and no silly split order discount BS to deal with. Just shipping of cores.
Will be in Thursday and no longer an issue today.

Sarah decided to cut two sidewalls leaving work avoiding flooded road today. Replacing 85% tires bought new hurts. Fuck.

Avoided a tow home, Mr. Tire on W Henrietta gets very high marks from me.

failed inspection for loose right inner tie rod end.
ordered all 4. the right outer needs a boot and I failed at matching it up from stock.
can't wait to see how loose it really is. it wasn't when I had it in the air a month ago. that'll extra piss me off.

Whelp right rear caliper fell out of this today. So that’s cool. Didn’t break the wheel, so could be worse.

Will probably need a knuckle. I may have written something above about threads feeling like they were weak when I changed the calipers 6 months ago. I know dad had a fight of some flavor with them too, but I thought the knuckle got changed.

helicoil and loaded caliper with braket ordered. bosses on the knuckle look structurally fine but the upper bolt lost its threads and sent the caliper into the wheel. did dent the inside of the wheel, need to make sure it's not losing pressure and isn't cracked.

One of the helicoils fought me a skosh but this is all buttoned up. Needs final bleed and the tire thrown on, and an oil change.

The tie rod that failed its inspection is a barely detectable click. Poor tire balance has a slight shake at 60-68 (more poor luck with balancing beads on small/light tires!) and they blamed the tie rod.

Not sure if I’m feeling the ambition to try out my alignment hardware for the first time for real.

Found left front inner cv boot torn. Axle ordered.

That tie rod has the TINIEST click. Bullshit fail. Didn’t change. Will do along with axle.
