MMTR XJ Wonder
« on: April 22, 2023, 05:24:20 PM »
I don't know what Wonder this would even be throughout the group. 6th?

Has bogged down shortly after startup for 3 of 5 New York starts - was fine for 2 last night, but all three times I ran it today, it fell on its face for a moment after driving away. Like an injector is stuck open maybe? or fuel pressure drop? Would track with some of the other weird start issues.

I don't know if I have any injectors laying around, but that's a big enough thing that I'm going to look at it before listing it.

Ignoring trim pieces and door guts and windsheild, major/ inspection items:
horn
reverse lights
MIL bulb, other cluster bulbs, cluster oil pressure gauge
post-startup bog
rare-if-ever overdrive engagement
speed sensor (and now-fucked speed sensor and reverse switch wiring)

More response from parked on the street corner than FB ad. Two calls and a text in 2 days.

I don’t have a price or specs on it, just name and number

I bought cheap new rubber for this this week. Should be mounted tomorrow, I hope. Cooper 35x12.5-15s

I don’t think i can stomach Patagonia muds. Sorry, instagram.

Would like to get a locker in the rear instead of spool and drive it a bit, I think. I’m itchy to make it nicer and enjoy it since it’s not selling. Figure as soon as I like it, it’ll go.

cant believe this hasent sold

i would say your pictures in your add are shit.  you might think about washing it, getting clear non dark pictures, and more pictures of the under side/lift kit / bolt on parts, instead of the beat interior pictures.

2min with some black rattel can bed liner to fix alot of the bottom side scratches

people dont read adds, they want shinny things.  or push it on the rock crawler groups or XJ forums

Cleaned up will help for sure. Haven’t really had a moment to think about it till this week.

Passenger door now has handles and a working window, though there’s a voltage drop somewhere on both passenger windows.

Front track bar drop bracket welded on. It was very loose again. Third time tightening should be permanent.

Speed sensor fixed. Reads about 10% high.
Marker light fixed.
Still needs horn, backup lights, and lic plate light to inspect.

Speedometer didn’t fix lack of going into overdrive. Unsurprising since I don’t think aw4 sees speedometer signal. Trans output speed sensor is a thing I think? Could be. Low range sensor is not present. Idk if that matters.

Trans cooler lines are wet at crimps up front.

Cluster keepalive isn’t. Tech doesn’t park and trip meter resets at key off

Headlights like to stay on. Wonder if someone put in a relay and it’s sticking? Wiggling and tapping the switch isn’t immediately effective.

I like this jeep :-x
Good time yesterday.

reset TV cable. didn't test drive to see if that makes a difference.
Apparently the brake switch can cause issues like this. it has 3 sets of contacts and if trans controller sees brakes, no OD. If ECU sees brakes, cruise cuts.
NSS a debatable possibility.

TV cable adjust didn’t fix it.
Still drives like a dream.

Need to check brake and NSS switches next.

fail on fall colors ride today. had to throw a battery at it (4/19 sticker on it), found wipers shredded from sitting, but after leaving our meetup we felt a couple clunks that felt like rear gearset catching, so we just came home.

A rattle I feel sometimes is almost surely exhaust on a crossmember, but nothing obvious in rear driveshaft or anything, so needs investigation before hallowheeling. rear shaft is a CV out of the case with SYE, greasable joint at least at the axle that I've never touched.

Popped from 2hi to N once too. related t-case issue? hope not.

shafts feel 95% new, the 5% is some slop in the slip yoke at the front axle, pinions feel tight, tcase chain might be a hair loose but I don't recall how much cross rotation there should be between front and rear outputs.

rear diff cover is a bit wet.
e brake would work with the cable splitter, it's just missing. I can move all three cables by hand from underneath. anyone have a spare?

I think the transmission mount is either shot or has no bolts in it. See where it's hit the body on the driver side. slides back and forth left to right a good inch or two.

looks like the xj parking brake cable equalizer is straight across, cable ends expected to be straight in line. with the 8.8 ebrake cables this needs one about 8" long, or a short cable extension. that's why it's been ignored and left hanging. that, backup lights, and license plate lights are all that's been needed to inspect all along.

Transmission mount *could* make for a similar weird feeling? but I should pull and reseal the rear cover and do a visual inspection

Transmission mount in acceptable shape, but had no bolts into the transmission. Just slidin’ around on there.
Motor mounts are whooped. Stock replacements 22 bucks apiece in stock local. Probably grab those and throw them in.

Top of the rubber is gone on the top side, driver side:
