waste oil burn

i have been looking at some options.   buy a real furnace new, buy a used one, make something meh


did some bench tests with some high pressure nozzle burners today.  i think i need to step up my game if im going to do it.

i am thinking a double barrel style stove i can put a waste oil pot styled burner in and still be able to burn wood or cardboard shit from shop

might be a futile attempt and not neat enough heat

have lots of oil, fans, and 55 gal drums so might be worth a try.

I did a double barrel stove like that and wasn't to happy with how looking it lasted.  I think I got two or three years out of it.  The metal is just to thin and doesn't last. I seen one guy take a 250 gallon heating oil tank and make a big furnace.

picked up a barrel kit and double barrel kit from TSC today, also stopped at lowes for some misc items. 


plan is a double barrel kit with wood or waste oil option. 

need to grab some sand / bricks tomorrow and ready for first burn / clean out, then start tweeking the waste oil forced air setup.

whats your oil pot look like and how are you feeding it air?

oil feed will be 1/4" copper line inside a 1.5 or 1.75" steel tube.  the tube will have a shop vac blower hooked to it with a variable speed drive. 


sizes for oil line and air line will mostly be driven by the junk i have laying around.  will tweek later but basically you need to be able to throttle the oil and air to get a good burn.  shooting for 1-1.5 gallon per hour burn should be more than enough to max out heat from the two drums with fans on them. 



after that i might try a compressed air / mixer nozel setup but they look more of a pain to light/ control and you have to listen to your air compressor kicking on a lot.

pot will be literally an old trailer cooking pot or whatever the biggest thing i can fit though the barrel door.

You know of any backroad routes from mine to yours? I hear stories from those who go south that Scottsville and E River can both take an hour to get to I90 in a bad snowstorm. Sitting in traffic is totally not what an offrAudi is for. It's for sending me into the ditch when I get overconfident in my abilities while running around in a snowstorm because I don't have to care about road conditions!

i see zero traffic at 3:45 everyday.  between 4:30 and 6pm every week day its back up past my house and down the road from the village signal

i started off with a shop vac, but its way to loud and if i fried the motor its a wasted $70 ,walmart has plug in mattress pump for $10, put it in a box surrounded by insulation with vents and its  near silent with mass air flow
