John Deere 318 or 322
« on: April 21, 2016, 09:22:52 AM »
I need to retire my riding lawn mower. Although it's still kicking.

I want to buy a John Deere 318 (air cooled) or 322 (liquid cooled). Preferably with mower.

Will pay cash. I might will pay a "finder fee"!

Been spoiled on my 445. Would have had a 317 available but it's not doing well. Blows oil everywhere.

Love love love those tractors. I think most of you know I've got their predecessor, the 140. I learned to drive on it when I was 4-5, and I mow blow plow and mowzer with it today. One engine rebuild so far, and I seem to have a bit of a transmission oil leak. it just got a new seat. no room indoors for it now 90% of the time :( and the sun is taking its toll.

I rode my uncle's 316 or 318 (can't remember) every time I visited my uncle when I was a kid. He gave it to me when he moved to a new house with tiny yard. I sold it and regretted it ever since. They're built like a tank and they have useful attachments available.

Those older deere have a cult following.

I sold my JD 400, 20 hp 60" deck to a guy for 1900 only to have him say he is going to part it out and make like 1500 profit off it after he is done.

Ours is still running as well Mike. Deck rotted off years ago, but my father did lawnmower pulls with it and uses the snowblower still. The 140 is a tank...still will outpull 10+ hp bigger machines now. Heavy, solid, steel.

I'm leaning toward the 1991 John Deere 318 with 50" mower deck. I'll look at it tonight.

I'm no longer looking for one. I'm on my way back home with a 318 with 50" deck.

Oh. I hope I won't start a collection, perhaps hoarding John Deere stuff. I want this one to stay with me for years to come.
