the wheels that are on my dodge should fit nicely on a trailer
Title: Re: Trailers

Eriks is only 38' it looks huge. Most of the ones I am seeing with living quarters are 40' I would like to stay under that if possible. 34 or 36 would be ideal. Even 32 if I could find it.

I thought his was a 36 or 38' DECK so it's probably a 46-48 overall. The enclosed are always dimensioned overall length. I seem to recall thinking Erik's was my trailer, but with a roof.
Title: Re: Trailers
Post by: Ryan on February 16, 2012, 09:18:14 AM
So you think a 40' is like 32' floor and 8' goose part? I have no clue how they measure.

So you think a 40' is like 32' floor and 8' goose part? I have no clue how they measure.

in all cases where I've bothered to check, yes.  they sell at 40' trailer that is really 36+4 or 34+6 or 32+8 depending on the length of the nose. By that dimension I should talk about having a 43' trailer, myself.

We are thinking ahead, we would like one with a bathroom for the long trips, like for instance KOH 2013. A shower would feel great after a few days in the dust.  Or even at Rausch after a race, a nice hot shower will be great. So living quarters are a must now.

Title: Re: Trailers
Post by: mr.mindless on February 22, 2012, 06:10:40 PM
important detail: you're not gonna be legal to pull it on a class D license unless you can register your truck at 5,000#.  And I don't think the DMV will let you reg under the curb weight their computer says your truck is.  Might get lucky though, those weights reeeeeealy low from what I remember.

21' sure isn't two rigs long but it's a rig and a rhino or two or quads or a Sammi....

probably gives it an 11k payload too which is plenty.

Post by: mr.mindless on February 22, 2012, 07:00:28 PM
I did hear a good one about a monster toter getting around a scale house issue last show though.

He bypassed an open scale and got pulled over, they wanted him to cross because of the commercial nature of the trailer. He refused to pull his privately registered RV across the scales and was going to drop the trailer, told them they were welcome to pull the trailer across but his RV wasn't going to do it. Supposedly they let him go. He weighs about 88k loaded... Lighter than some others I know of. The one Brett crews for scales at 95.

I can't believe they do what they do weekend after weekend.

Buggy would not fit the way it was configured, height wise. And spendind that kind of money, I did not want to have to re-configure it to work, SO I opted to pass on it. It was not in too nice of shape either. Old looking, tires had some cracking, roof had a leak they "fixed"

Should have been in better shape for the money.

Funny math is funny.

Good complete numbers though, even if he described them poorly. It really annoys me when a trailer is just rated at its axles' capacity for GVWR, ignoring pin capacity. That means its under-framed or over-axled.
