I want to get the TDI roadworthy before I start on this. Probably let the Dakota sit and rust for a while. I could put full hydro in it and a new steering pump and weld up lots of cracks and still probably need to swap transmissions and it'd still ride like shit and need 2 ring & pinions and not be caged or harnessed while I keep driving it harder. More than anything else it's the riding like shit - and thats waylotsmore work with hoops in front and cutting mounts off and linking the back, etc. okay maybe not more work. But work I'm not interested in doing now.
The following is all realtively cheap, can be done in stages, and should result in a fun unique DD wheeler. Just need a cheap rotten XJ for drive train and maybe rear end (Paul?!), gears and spacer for the IFS D30, and box steel for sliders.
I still wish White were an SX4 instead of a wagon for shorter wheelbase and increased sexiness. Right nick? But I'll work with the piles I have.
