2 years now, no issues to speak of.   12.5k miles on it.

Haven't done the engine recall check yet, will do that when next oil change is due because new oil change is included in the recall no cost.

Is that the recall check where they basically redline the motor for 30minutes... if it stays running you are good, but if it fails you get a new engine?

so looks like they have identified and RPM range that produces / aggravates an engine that has either no, some, or excessive worn bearings/tolerances and or excessive valve train knock/tapping that may or may not be heard by ear, but can be measured and recorded by a knock sensor (vibration sensor) and then they have grouped the recorded data into a pass fail based on if too much damage has been done or not, and then if ok add thicker oil to help it stay ok.  im sure they have a bunch of data and GM is like full force fire fighters.

they probably have fleet data that clearly explains what percent are bad, what percent make it to 50k, 100k, 150k ect and chose a best direction to cover their ass/ meet warranty requirements, or replace the engine if needed.

thats my 30 second understanding after watching the video and not researching the recall or any other related info.

I wonder how many of those engines will make it to 150k, 250k compared to previous generations? hopefully the viscosity change is a resolution and not just a delay of the inevitable.

im sure its a band aid to make them meet the requirements they were designed and sold to meet, so that is the resolution in the eyes of GM.  anything else, is bonus to customer, thats just how it works.

If engine fails test/deemed defective and replaced under warranty with new engine, the factory warranty remains original length.

If engine passes testing, warranty upgraded to 10yr/150k.

So... seems like life expectancy is 150k minimum.

that proprietary knowledge has been round bin filed.
