2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2
« on: October 15, 2023, 02:20:39 AM »
I had transmission replaced in my '16 Sierra earlier this year.  5k miles on it and its starting to shit bricks again.  I decided to take advantage of high prices of used market now and traded it in for a ZR2 Silverado.  I'll miss it. I loved it, but I think I'll love my ZR2 more.   Paid just under MSRP for it, not a great deal but acceptable because most dealers mark up these.  Gave me $28k for the old Sierra with 90k on it.

I nearly bought a Ram Power Wagon last weekend until the dealership added some bullshit at the backend and $3k+ of fees.  Walked away.   Glad I did, the ZR2 is a way better truck for me.  It is freaking fast. I like fast.

Already did some things to it:
First modification - antenna delete
Bakflip X4 from old sierra (it was 1" too short, I have a couple holes in the corners I need to figure out gaskets - don't really want to buy a new top)
Bedrug

Planned mods:
Tint all windows - factory tint too light.
dashcam
6 way lights at high beam (all forward facing lights on same time at high beam)
auto fogs (fogs on when low beams are on)
cargo lights to come on same time as reverse lights
Ultimate9 Throttle Controller
disable auto start/stop

The PW I test drove and nearly bought.

Looked into Raptors too, every ford dealer had them with crazy markups. Even for a regular Raptor, not just the Raptor R or the 37 package which I didnt want.

Side note: My ZR2 is quicker than a Raptor and I believe it. It flies.

Hope you like it, Matt!
Interesting to me how the latest gen Chevies feel to me like they took some cues and proportions from the latest midsize trucks. They're huge but read smaller than they are at a distance to me. Proportions have changed to be more like the current Ranger than an older fullsize.

So far so good.

What I have done to it so far are minor.
5% tint
bedrug liner
Revolver x4s topper from old sierra (it was short but I made it work)
LED reverse lights
UltimateX EVCX Throttle controller. Best thing I did, woke up the truck
MBRP muffler delete
ceramic coat
4k front/rear dashcam
1/2" wheel spacers

The DSSV suspension is amazing.  I love it.   Definitely a lot of body roll on the turns and braking/accelleration due to the softness of the suspension.

Average fuel consumption around 14.5mpg. https://www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/silverado_1500/2023/slicer/1243012

Nothing new to report about this truck.  It's been fantastic, no issues.

Oh yeah - I disabled the engine autostop and J&L oil catch can.

I hated the auto stop with a passion. Glad it took a 5 minute mod to disable it!

6.2L has fantastic grunt for towing.  Way better than the old 5.3.   Rear sags quite a bit with tons of weight but that was expected because of the soft suspension.   I don't tow much anymore, so I'm not worried about it.

I don’t know many people with auto start/stop who don’t actively dislike it. Even non car people.

I know Iwould hate it. Give me real hybrid or go away…

my '19 Ranger has start stop, I agree I highly dislike it, haven't done anything about it..

I do push the button to turn it off a lot.. (it resets when I turn the truck off)

1 year now, 8k miles, nothing special to report.  Been a fantastic truck, only did oil change to it. No warranty related issues.

Haven't messed around much with it. No reason to as it's already well equipped.     Sure, would love putting on bigger tires to fill up the wheel wells a bit but eh.

Rare snow day down here in GA!  Had to grab a shot before it melts away.

can't believe how much some FL areas got out of this storm. Pandhandle isn't supposed to get multiple inches!

Went to car show on Sunday.  Saw bunch of beautiful vehicles, my favorite was a 1970s lifted f100.

Tried to start the ZR2.   Cranked and cranked, will not start. No engine light. It won't shift either.

Went under and found the fuel pump module on top of the gas tank. Two 10mm bolts.

Swapped it with a spare I had in my glovebox (I purchased it same week I bought my truck after reading about so many failures of this part).

Truck fired up and started, runs like normal.

Ordered another spare module ($50) for the next time this happens as 10 minutes of inconvenience beats waiting for a tow and dealing with warranty.

Recall letter received today for the 6.2L engine. About time, been expecting this for a while.

My motor will either be replaced or warranty extended to 150k.  12.5k miles on it now.  Also now requires 0w-40 oil.
