towing numbers for my ranger...

(1/3) > >>

carchameleon:
Sasha and I have been starting to talk about getting a travel trailer maybe next summer, so I have been researching the towing capacity of our 19' Ranger. I wanted to share with you guys to make sure my numbers make sense...

GVWR ---------------- 6050
curb weight ---------- 4441 (i'm planning on going to the scale to get a true unloaded weight)
GCWR ---------------- 12500
max tongue weight -- 750

from those numbers I got 8059lbs as max towing (I know that is everything aside from the truck itself)
also gives me a max payload while towing 859lbs (calculated payload is 1609)

the advertised towing capacity from Ford is 7500lbs

Looking at these numbers I'm thinking we should have a max weight of around 6000lbs...
Planning on getting a brake controller and weight distribution hitch.

advice and suggestions welcome except getting a different truck!

also anyone have a trailer plus cargo that is about 6000lbs that I could pull around a little to see what it feels like?

M:
Talk to doppleganger. He just got a new camper and from what I recall, it's similar to what you're looking to haul.

Wingman:
An open trailer with a Jeep on it should be about 6000#.

Recommend the Tekonsha P3 controller.

etk300ex:
I'd get one of those little ones like Nick has, or a pop-up.

Tip: I add 1,000# extra to my little truck camper when loaded and that's including only 14 gal of water.  I pack fairly minimal also, things add up quick.

etk300ex:
I have a WD hitch for sale too
