wonder if we should have pulled that loose sensor all the way out to see what it looked like before jamming it back in the trans

Would have been smart, yes, lol

I spent way to much time on ram forums this morning looking into cruise.  A lot of dead end threads.  It appears most people try many things and it never gets resolved.

Most common issue is vacuum hoses or pump on Cummins trucks.  Little to no info on gas trucks.

The cruise buttons are another common issue but I don't think that's my issue as the the CRUISE light comes on and then shuts off when you push and hold SET.  Seems that it is looking for confirmation and getting denied.

Wouldn't I have an ABS light if I had a bad VSS?

my Grand Cherokee, set cruise works but you have to hold the button for 5-7 seconds hard or it will not show cruise light on dash.   been like that since i have owed it,  thought it was inop for years until for some reason i held the button down long and then it worked fine lol

From my Haynes Repair Manual. On Hemi-powered vehicles the PCM controls the cruise control system electronically. If you have problems with the cruise have it checked by a dealer service department.

Thanks?

VSS or any corner/rear wheel speed sensor would give a CEL code.  My snap on reader will also show raw data of anything the PCM has (much more than a pocket reader) and run diagnostic tests.

those things are worth the paper they're printed on.

see what smike's reader shows for button presses and codes and speed sensors. could just be a clock spring or button problem - maybe wires crossed there and set is crossed with on/off somehow

What does OBD-II fault code P0585 mean?
OBD-II Code Cruise control will not operate is defined as a Cruise Control Multi-Function Input "A"/"B" Correlation

The Cruise Control System uses several input switches (i.e. Coast and Accelerate) If the engine computer (PCM) sees a signal from more than one switch at a time, code P0585 will set and the cruise control system will be disabled.

Cleared code.  Now Cruise On/Off button doesn't work now.

New code: P0591 Cruise Control Multi-Function Input B Circuit Range Performance

Cleared that code.  Now On/Off works as it did before.  Press Set and it turns off.  Back to code P0585.

Cleared that, it comes back immediately after pressing Set.

Seems like there is a short in the buttons causing 2 signals at the same time.  I'm going to throw new steering wheel buttons at it.

did you find any where in the data that shows the switch status live as you push it?

Lamp Out- Code: Right Rear Turn Output Circuit Open.

Works fine.  Swapped bulbs, no change.  Swapped tail lights, no change.  Twisted the harness 360 degrees, all fixed ::).  I'll get a new harness if they sell such a thing.

Negative, I looked for 10 minutes and moved on. I found the line graph where you have to scroll through about 5000 variables, is that it?  I'll try again.

ya, if you scroll over to the right you can check or uncheck all data to display, then swtich to the other function to check a few single data streams of interest to only display the ones you want to see as you make changes
