Gmt800 brake lines
« on: December 09, 2023, 10:52:15 PM »
Did all brake lines on my brother in laws 1500 sierra today. RF had popped above the LF shock, all except the cross axle lines were super crunchy.

He bought easy bend copper coated cut to length lines. Not a bad way to go.

Routing to abs pump under the driver seat is fucking terrible.

Only reason I’m bothering to write this is to share a Pro Tip.

One line didn’t seal on the ABS pump. Flare looked perfect. Boss in the pump looked shitty, like maybe I’d tightened it with the line cocked (I don’t think I did; but lines we took off were factory so i must have)

Tried and tried, no dice. Didn’t want o rip threads out of the aluminum abs pump but I know I was getting close.

After a LOT of digging I found an aluminum banjo bolt washer in the gasket kit for the backhoe (!) with an OD about the size of the flare OD, crossed my fingers, and it sealed up first shot. Not even close to a leak. We tried. It’s good. At a completely reasonable torque value.

I thought that had about a 3% chance of working, but now I need to find an assortment of small copper or aluminum washers to save my ass like this again if is come across a crappy caliper or MC or abs pump flare again.
