I know every time I have hooked my new trailer up I have said the same thing and still haven't taken the time to do it..

one bad thing I just noticed about that article.. they don't have the chains crossed, which should always be done to keep the hitch from falling all the way to the ground and digging in.. I wonder if they measure the cable length this way and then cross the chains, if the cable would then still be short enough to activate.

it's that thing that everyone just loops in with the safety chains so that unless a chain breaks it'll never trigger, and no one (including me) ever manages to hook it to anything other than the hitch, so if the hitch fails the trailer will just roll on.

I haven't read the article yet, but I don't have a hook on my breakaway. I pull the pin and pass it through itself. I do that before I plug in to the truck, and with my hydraulic brakes that tells me if my battery is good or not, since I hear the pump run and hear it change pitch when pressure builds, so it's a hydraulic check as well.

nothing in that article would have made them any less terrible in any way lol
