Congrats.. the Bridgeport I bought recently is r8 as well which is super common..

You you have power feed on your table?  I unfortunately don't, but I do have a digital read out... And I can feed my quill if needed..

Did you get any tooling?

power X and power Quil.  also set up for fluid pump.

no tooling with it, but i have a box full of R8 collets, a drawer of new end mills and some face boring tools along with a Kurt vice after this weeks delphi auction.   extra tall mill vice jaws and mill stops / some other things i dont know yet what they are.    got a sweet pad to put in front of it too!

thats what i did on my mill.    then you can use a simple controller for speed settings and standard industrial switches for stop/start/e-stop/  ect....

i guess i didnt know the VFD also makes the 3 phase power change.  that would have been better in my old shop instead of the static converter for just the lathe.  now that i have the need for more power, and 440, and multiple machines im still happy with what i did, but adding a VFD for just the mill might be a good upgrade for the cost later.

i would consider it for any application where the machine requires the changing of belt position to change speed.

so what "belt position" do you run the mill in? high gear i assume?  does that hurt the power at low RPM if you really want to hawg on something?  my mill has a high and low mechanical gear, so i guess it would be ok though with a VFD and leave it in high belt position for full RPM range, but have a mechanical low gear for grunt work when needed.

my mill is super easy 2sec belt change with a lever and i like it in low gear for power threading links... hmm.

i selected the middle range,   its probably 1:1

my mill also has a hi/lo gear box selector          i am almost always (99%) in the low gear box setting.

you can stop over sometime to see what you think...    i wouldn't change a thing

opps i mean my lathe is the quick belt change.

looks like the mill is set to middle belt but more involved to change.
