What you use to paint your trail rigs with?

I'll have a lot to paint on chassis on my XJ build. I wants to do POR-15 it all but it'll be very time consuming and take forever to cure in this cold weather.

I don't want to find my spray bomb paint job to be flaking off everywhere.

too cold to paint without heat.. better off waiting or heating garage

I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

Isn't there a chassis paint out there other than POR15? Probably still need warm...

Custom mix rattle cans?

I will need to paint my XJ's frame, axles, floors. It don't need to be some pretty color matching paint. I'm thinking some kind of bedliner.

I'm open to suggestions. I'll like to figure out what's way to go then I'll have it ordered in bulk, possibly through rejeep or somewhere online.

I painted my Dodge's D80 in the chilly weather with success. It took forever to cure though.

Of course if I go with this one, I'll get something else to do axles and top side of floors. Thoughts?

beware of flaking with POR if painting clean metal no matter the temp. I believe Cora's old cage was indeed prepped but it was new clean steel and the POR flaked pretty badly.

I'd probably just rattlecan it Hammered if getting it into warmth isn't feasible..

I painted my rusty ass toyota frame and new cage with 1 thick ass coat of brushed on Rustoleum.   No prep.  Held up great.

I used Metal Prep from POR-15 to avoid that problem. Although my XJ's bare metals already flash rusted

I painted my Dodge's D80 two years ago. It still looks like I painted it yesterday when wiped clean. Hammering to it don't hurt it. If I remember correctly I applied at least 3 coats.

the rattle can hammer rustoleum is pretty thin and cheap.


cant beat the oil based brush on, zero prep paint.
