The State of Maine will only register vehicles that are 1990 and up, and 10,000 lbs. or less
if the vehicle is a 1990 thru 1994 the title needs to already be in your name, if the vehicle is a 1995 or newer we will need the original title

just call them, they would do my 1979 truck, and the title is not in my name, its signed by sellar.  It seems their posted rules are flexible, and they just help you to get it done. 

you have to get insurance first though.  that was easy in my case.

Sounds a little sketchy for POV (personally owned vehicle) but seems a decent option if a maine llc happened to own it. and my trailers. and everything else...
