Post by: carchameleon on June 16, 2012, 10:30:11 PM
here's the list i came up with tonight of stuff to do before it can be driven to rc...

-NYSI (monday)
-change transmission oil
-remount front shocks & mount rear shocks
-rear pinion bearing
-check bearings & brakes (adjust rears)
-powersteering cooler
-move grill & put fenders on (paint them?)
-tow points /bumpers?
-check diff oil /replace?
-power outlet
-yourk?
-random other small things
-put front brakes from '85 axle

probably forgot a couple of things... i'll figure it out as i go, haha

if it helps i found aluminum tube that is 3/4 OD and 5/8 ID. I plan to use it for my shock bushings. it was at tractor supply. you could have some if getting it from me makes sense financially. it was $5 for a 3 (?) foot stick

I towed a CJ on a u-haul trailer with my ZJ on 35" tires. It worked, was slow, but worked.

its a holley 1946 1 barrel
came on my cj stock, i wonder why i got the wrong kit..

that looks to be the correct kit
Title: Re: cj to do list...

don’t bother rebuilding it...
If you plan on running a carb get a MC2100 conversion kit and be done...  you will thank me later..

there use to be a guy on ebay who sold kits...

you have this mastercraft carb?
is it for sale?
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: M4wdFab on July 03, 2012, 11:44:12 AM
no, thats a 2bb carb, a hassel for you.

just rebuild what you have for 20$

or convert it to propane and never think about it again

carbs suck!
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 03, 2012, 11:49:18 AM
i know its a 2bb
doesn't seem to much of a pain

not having a great time finding a rebuild kit for this holley

propane isn't simple either :-p

carbs do suck
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 03, 2012, 11:52:36 AM
right, all these things i've been reading, they start with 2bb
haha...
.idiot..
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: M4wdFab on July 03, 2012, 11:55:17 AM
propane could be running that engine in 10 minutes, it is simple.

i could have it set up by the time you ran down the street to fill the tank
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: M4wdFab on July 03, 2012, 11:56:49 AM
you could just try it, and decide for your self it is a hassel to get fuel based on the milage you get on road.  i never really did the math, but i used about 75% of the "gallons" i used to use of Gasoline when wheeling a weekend at rausch or Gore
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 03, 2012, 12:01:23 PM
don't you have to plum cooling lines too?

ok i'm wrong, haha

i have to hook up my speedometer, haha
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: rejeep on July 03, 2012, 12:01:36 PM
the Mc2100 can be fitted on a 1bbl manifold..
or upgrade to a 2 bbl manifold...

Carbs don’t suck if they are set up right... and the simpler the design the better...

propane exhaust gives me a headache...
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 03, 2012, 12:25:24 PM
either way isn't bad
i don't know

smike, is the mastercraft one you have this 2100 model?
what would you want for that?

lunchtime
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: Ryan on July 03, 2012, 12:31:09 PM
go propane and at least try it.
Title: cj to do list...
Post by: mr.mindless on July 03, 2012, 12:33:57 PM
You have a MC2100 sitting, smike?

I'm tired of dieseling on shutdown. Maybe I should think about a carb that's worth tweaking.
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 03, 2012, 12:43:03 PM
i'll have to extend my exhaust so it goes out from under the cj...
it ends just above the rear axle...

should be one regardless
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: M4wdFab on July 03, 2012, 12:45:44 PM
no, why on earth would i spend money on another POS carb    they all suck, no matter how many hours you tune them- and i would know seeing as i work with the people that designed them

i thought it was called a motor craft or something that i have

i actually went home for lunch, and i have a Carter 1bb that was on my CJ, but the botom end Fly is bolted to a propane mixer and somewhere maybe in the old shop i have another 1bb carb, i think its an older RP mono jet that was a tank.

if you smell exhaust on the jeep regarless of fuel source, you have much more worse problems
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: M4wdFab on July 03, 2012, 12:46:55 PM
a tank side to side but the float would get stuck if you nosed up at 50degrees or more
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: mr.mindless on July 03, 2012, 12:55:41 PM
yeah it's motor craft or moto craft, not master craft.

I dont think thats a carb issue...  had that on my YJ at some point in my life with the jeep

if you smell exhaust on the jeep regarless of fuel source, you have much more worse problems

i dunno, all the propane powered shit I have ever driven give me killer headaches...
its a common thing I have heard...

may just be running hot. I have no temp gauge (on anything I daily drive)
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: rejeep on July 03, 2012, 01:41:27 PM
now that you say that I think it had to do with the EGR valve...
it drastically lowers the cyl head temps..

check the EGR tube and valve function

functional. I can hear them open and close under the hood.

smike how much do you want for that motorcraft 2bb?

Title: Re: cj to do list...

Carbs are garbage. Go propane and pick up 20hp and better driveability. Just my opinion after having run both.
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: rejeep on July 05, 2012, 06:12:20 PM
or do that...
but for all of our sanity...
pick something and run with it..

the only bad decision is indecision..
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: carchameleon on July 05, 2012, 06:22:55 PM
haha, thanks

propane isn't really the best thing to run on the road is it?

other than that i'll quietly make up my mind
Title: cj to do list...
Post by: mr.mindless on July 05, 2012, 06:27:56 PM
My 2bbl mani and a 2bbl Motocraft is second best behind throttle body injection IMO.

Carbs do suck though.
Title: Re: cj to do list...
Post by: Ryan on July 05, 2012, 06:39:33 PM
As long as you carry a extra tank on the road driving will be greatly improved. Throttle response will be improved and you should get tbe same mpg. And propane is much cheaper than gas.

so while doing research on the mc2100 carb swap i stumbled on one for sale on some random forum, the ad is about a year old and has a phone number.  so i sent the guy a text & he got back to me today & still has it.  he's sending me pictures tomorrow or tuesday & a price shipped.
sounds good, nice (hopefully)

I have no idea what happened.

I got halfway home after finding out Tahou's closes at midnight, and got a call for a jump. CJ was running when I left.

When I got back it was 5 car lengths up and in the middle of the parking lot.

Started right up and died.
Cranked and killed the battery. (I think this was the order)

Grabbed on of the three new batteries from the back of the car and hooked pos cable, grounded neg to grill support strut. Cranked and didn't fire. I took a shower in an amazing 10' geyser of gasoline that shot out the top of the carb. Then a bit later it started again and ran, idling at 1500+

Swapped the + cable back, told him to take it around the lot a couple laps and it died an wouldn't refire before he even made it to the back of the building. Pushed it into a parking app and I took him home.
