750$ in glass and glass seals for this hawg.  that has to be a record.  have to remember that.  might be cheaper to drive to PA or OH and grab some cabs with good glass and parts geese!

starting to round up parts for this as the 53 now moves and this is next i think.

looking for and escalade or yukon for it.  (116" wheelbase)

front end tight on this Denali

2020 date code like new tires all 4 corners
2021 battery
oem cats present
new brake MC
brake lines replaced with copper at some point

frame rust not really that bad
AWD Tcase doesnt appear to have a selectable 2/4 or lock, so that should be easy

looking like a good buy so far
listed some stuff for part out

tearing it down today and tomorrow.

adjustable petals at your door switch is neat.  hope thats not annoying for using in a hot rod.  havent looked at them yet but thats on the pull list.

stripped all lines from chassis
pulled tank
removed all un needed ABS and Air suspension parts
2hrs of needle scaling today

going to make an effort with this one to make the chassis clean and painted.

lots of 2",4",6" lowering kits for yukon platforms so im thinking this is going to work out well.

i def need to lower the rear and will probably do a 4" rear spring drop and 2" spindle drop up front.

thinking there will be some tunnel work as the trans and tcase are mounted a bit higher than van 2wd platforms also.

Post by: M4wdFab on April 30, 2022, 07:27:02 PM
shift two of needle scaling complete.  its 95% ready for chassis coat.

ordered a couple rear control arms, rear track bar, front sway bar links that are hosed.

that stance looks great to me. width looks great too
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 24, 2022, 01:16:38 PM
im torn on it, so the body is going as low to the frame as possible- and then i will decided later if the lowering kit parts are going in or not.  should be bolt on and not change anything how the body sits.

one thing, the 265 tires are the biggest tires i have ever put on one of these trucks, they look big and really fill the wells up!

man the rear cab and box mount bracket was annoying to come up with a plan.  its 80% there just ran on of steam to fully execute today.  frame with new mounts should be ready for paint prep in another 8hrs.
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 27, 2022, 01:21:47 PM
finishing up side steps today, figured why not just get all the fab and metal work done / bumpers before paint.

seems like a lot more work on this one then and extra tear down lol

Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 28, 2022, 02:53:29 PM
new chassis paint gun worked excellent for spraying unthinned por15.  both with the nozel and the "straight" wand.  worked amazing.  i did not have high hopes as the wand would not feed thinned implement paint, but it loves it thicker.

after many, many, many hours i have a painted inside and out frame ready for assembly when dry!

Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: mr.mindless on June 28, 2022, 04:56:44 PM
that's gonna look like a new truck underneath!
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 28, 2022, 09:02:59 PM
yes, hard to decided where to stop.

all new chassis parts put on today while the chassis paint was still drying.

New rear 4" lower springs
New rear shock drop brackets
4 new shocks
4 new sway bar links
two new rear LCAs
new rear track bar

need to grab a trans mount

should be able to get the tank back in and start on fuel/brake lines tomorrow, then see if i need to replace calipers or not weather they play nice.

at this point, 4 new calipers, rotors/pads/ brake hoses would probably make life alot easer and a cleaner truck.
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 29, 2022, 10:24:43 PM
brake lines and fuel system done, exhaust done

cab bolted down final. box ready to bolt on.  4" lowering kit looks to be on point.

steering adapt, booster mount then off to wiring, glass, interior, seat

moving along nicely.  should be driving next week i think as long as i don't get interrupted.
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on June 30, 2022, 04:02:02 PM
banged a lot of dents out today

final bolt down.

took inventory, i think all i need to order is a radatior, i have everything else to complete to build

need to track down a front bumper, or use one of the chevy ones i have.

steering and brake controls in today 100%

kept the adjustable height Denali petal setup after some wire diagram and some google foo- should be tits on a toggle switch.

also took some time with 0000 steel wool on the front driver quarter, and there is actually some shiny paint on this thing left in some places!  looking good!
Title: Re: 1951 L110

motor fired.

a ground got lost on the TAC module- was same symptom of have active VATS, but PCM tested good on the other 6.0 truck i have here.

ground must have come from the body control module / cruise package connector where i cut it.  ill have to remember that one.

sounds good.  working on rad install that brown truck brought just in time lol

Coolant bled.

pretty much done.  rips down the road hard.

might need a water pump, something leaking a bit.
a front bumper and some rear glass gaskets would finish this truck 100%

need to insure and plate next week.  should be a fun one.

already have a buyer that viewed and begged to put a deposit down ( i held off till its 100% on road and transferable papers in hand)

first good drive.  no complaints.  noticed the water pump weeping last week so that will need to be addressed.

6.0 awd rips and exhuast is not bad.  no rattles tight cab.

need to track down a front bumper, rear glass seals, and some wipers.

gas filler neck or tank venting is screwed up- can only be filled SUPER slow

too much fun

probably sending it to buffalo and back tomorrow for first real trip.

charges, cools, gages good for 2 20min drives today.  topped off coolant, doesnt seem to be weeping from WP any more.

passed brett and Ashley in the TJ today but didnt click who it was fast enough to wave, i think same for brett haha

ripped this guy to buffalo and back today.  water pump leaky leaky so picked up one on the way back to change out tomorrow when it cools off.

otherwise, thing is sweet on the thruway.  no issues with motor or trans hot.  slams gears and rips.

lots of smiles and waves.

last 10 feet of universal glass seal on the internet close to what i need i could find was brittle junk from Thialand that probably had sat on a shelf for 16 years.  tore like Kleenex even with lube when tried to install.

bah, amazon can eat that back.  i guess ill just order and wait till its back manufactured bah!

going to miss this one!

hand shake after extended test drive today.

pending:

DMV paper work shows up
rear glass seals show up
fuel gauge install (my choice, working on it)
Title: Re: 1951 L110
Post by: M4wdFab on August 22, 2022, 05:14:52 PM
same non functional fuel gage after install. measured 180 ohms at tank and at wires brought to dash, when hooked up to gage, reads 50ish ohms (empty)

verified with an auto relay (reads 80ohms) gage works on bench as expected.

basically repeated same outcome on a second truck but did verify at least 50-250 ohm gage, that 50ohm is E  (missing detail on amazon listing)
