Post by: mr.mindless on May 04, 2012, 04:45:30 PM
Nick, here's some ratio tables for you:
http://www.truckplace.com/parts/transmission/eaton.shtml

Conversion parts list:
http://www.sanco-bg.com/NV5600_Conversion_parts_list.htm

my build - few other links in there:

I think all the pics are gone from this thread, but it's the one I was talking about with the adapted married tcase.

Sweeeeet I will take a look once I get on a computer. I am leaning to the 6 speed at OTP chatters talked with steve he said 4-500 for the transmission. I will be able to get the clutch and flywheel also with that.

if you have a source for NV5600's for 500$ i would buy 6 of them to easily double or tripple your money on ebay or any diesel forums
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride

that sounds like a steal nick I would jump on it.
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: Nick on May 05, 2012, 09:36:39 AM
They are not 5600 they are eaton 6 speeds out of something semi big. It is not going to be a dump bus but it sure will be a dumper! I am gonna look around a tad more see if I can find a overdrive 6 speed that would be sweet. I really don't wanna use my gear vendor again since now that is just going to be a weak link and a hassel in the future. Then after this project will be looking for a f550 with a blown motor and put my truck drivetrain in that and buy a 10 ton goose trailer for that setup. Now that will be the bees knees!

I will keep it in mind. If I am going to get rid of it I will be doing it as a package with the transmission tho so we will see

Mark I am not sure what transmission you have in the BBB but if it is a fuller 6 speed from what I am reading it is easy to cover a direct drive tranny to a OD. I have a good cheap lead on a fuller 6 speed direct drive and I will be swapping it over to a OD.

It's a Fuller 5 speed but I'm not sure what model.  Model number later...

That sounds right. Search converting fs to fso transmission you will see some of the info. I have seen a lot with the 6 speeds so I am not sure about the 5 speeds

Mike did you have good luck with caseys? I can not get them to call me back to tell me if they have the exact transmission I want and how much. bassstids!!
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: mr.mindless on June 04, 2012, 11:40:49 AM
I did have good luck. I don't remember which guy I usually talked with. The old guy (who I think is Casey himself) is pretty forgetful. I dealt with one of the younger guys there. Shit, they might even remember my project and pile, that might loosen them up a little for you. They all have Cummins Rams but the one I dealt with had actually been thinking about a swap.

I will mention it next time I talk with them. They are supposed to be calling me back in a little bit which means I will be calling them again around 1 to remind them.

2450 for a rebuilt fso-6406a which is a 6 speed overdrive fuller from caseys. That price includes transmission bell housing and a yoke. I am really leaning towards pulling the trigger on this since I can't  wait for a couple months to try and find a good deal on one. What did your total build run you mike?
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: mr.mindless on June 04, 2012, 04:01:04 PM
3750 with clutch and housing and starter [that didn't clear] and yoke and joint and shifter and stuff. _complete_
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: M4wdFab on June 04, 2012, 04:01:30 PM
that is not bad, you could sell some of your 4500 and gear venders to make most of that back
Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: Nick on June 04, 2012, 04:07:06 PM
I bet I will have no problem getting 3500-4000 for my whole setup if I fix what is wrong with my 4500. I will also buy the fuller 6 speed from ontario truck parts he will sell me clutch flywheel everything for 500 dollars then I can try and resell that transmission for maybe 750 so I think in the end I can probably do a even slide if not make a little money.

Title: Re: Dump II: Santa's Ride
Post by: Nick on August 19, 2012, 09:57:21 AM
The ring gear on the flywheel is fawked from the transmission we took apart at ontario truck parts. That kinda slowed us down for the weekend but I got the clutch adapter plate flywheel starter and another transmission for $400 and steve at OTP said he thinks he has another flywheel so it is a score no matter what.

This is why a nv4500 sucks if you ever plan on towing more than a 2 place snowmobile trailer. Broke teeth off of 5th gear and I am surprised that i was able to drive the truck as long as I did.

It is going to fit with just some sledge hammer work and thats about it. The transmission is straight back from the mount holes on the bell housing. That is my awesome slave cylinder so my twigs will be able to push the clutch!!

She has a big belly on her now! I used the original spots on the frame for the crossmember it lined up really close. Everything works good just drove it in the parking lot since the gallon or gallon and a half of oil mike had was not enough to fill it. Shifts just like a normal transmission real smooth and easy. The only thing I am not happy with is the mount I made to hold the clutch slave it works fine tho just sucks. Other than that she is sweet!

What's the length and what did you have to do for a speedo?

I am running a 2wd trans now with a divorced 205 so if my nv4500 ever s**ts maybe that can be a good bolt in.

It is about 30" bell housing to yoke. I am not sure on the speedo yet but I know mike has that answer so I am not worried.

Isn't that a 14k trailer?  Don't let Johnny law see you....

I have heard of a couple of guys lately getting pulled over by the DOT that were hauling eq. with a one ton.  One guy got a nice stack of tickets.  He was guessing $1000 in fines, went before the judge, judge said he didn't know the dot laws that well and made him pay $65 fine and court fees.
