Title: Manual Transmission Fluid Tech Talk
Post by: TrailTamer on October 28, 2018, 10:45:35 AM
I’ll start with the AX-15 in my 1998 Jeep Cherokee

Accordingly to alldata, fluid type specification is GL-3, 75W-90

I barely can find GL-3 available for purchase, and very expensive.

Are the AX-15s like NV4500s where it’ll slowly destroy its synchros when filled with run-of-the-mill GL-5 gear oil?

I did. They all say AX-15 call for GL-3 75W-90 gear oil, nothing on 10W-30 motor oil but seem like most people ran that as an alternative (hard to find GL-3 gear oil available for purchase) with success, though.

Even Novak say GL-3 75W-90, or 50W

I was at the store today and checked out Pennzoil’s synchromesh. The label show to be spec’d to GL-3. Bought 2 quarts they had. Need 2 more.

Redline MT90
It’s an Aisin tranny.  Treat it as such
