i have much more selection in 8 lug hardware.

not tied to anything, or 2 build stages.  fitting the driveline i want may end up a bit long so bigger is easier to streach too.

Might just assemble, paint/rebuild work, new tires, pick up a case for it and flip it next summer, not sure.

Single

Also have 2 10.25 laying around matching 4.10, 1 single, 1 dually both with limited slips, not that anyone would use the limited slips though.

AMC 20 re braked today
rear brake hardlines done
tank and tank skid hung

2.73 gears and LS rear
committed to axles with a RA order just now.

Have a line on a 6.0 so not committed on keeping the 258 yet.

Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: M4wdFab on December 12, 2016, 01:51:23 PM
have a few ideas throwing around.

use 258 and 727? trans as is locate D300 case

use 258 and bolt on 231 (have), swap front axle to YJ  / wheel adapt back to CJ pattern.

have a line on cheap high miles 6.0- source th400/np whatever for pass drop

Have a fresh T15 something from scrambler, have varous D20 parts- source clutch and flywheel parts

not sure of year on this unit - don't forget track width concerns with YJ front swap plus adaptor width. might need 6" spacers in back.

83 is wide track, might be close to YJ

I know John that has that listed, he has many other combos and is reasonable.  Friends with Will Delphi/brolite/  I bought a 4.0 from him, he bought a 5.3 from me.   very knowledgeable LS guy

we were considering that 5.3 for matts car but too many changes with the gen4 change.

Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: M4wdFab on December 15, 2016, 09:49:14 AM
last nights progress:

AMC20 drums installed
3 new ebrake cables and spliter installed
rear hard line along driver chassis rail hung
front D30 torn down to C's, should have ujoints today for assembly with all new brakes next.
ujoints removed from front shafts and driveshafts
engine side motor mounts cleaned, painted, reassembled with new hardware
trans pan pulled and reinstalled with new gasket and filter- looked clean and fresh red.
new fuel pump hung on block

started to scope out body mounting- looks like the frame is missing two mounts- ill fab and add after the body is hung.
Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: mr.mindless on December 15, 2016, 09:51:21 AM
can you take a couple pictures of the ends and length measurements of your ebrake cables? thinking ahead to making the 20 work in Gus and if I can just use factory CJ parts mixed n matched
Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: M4wdFab on December 15, 2016, 11:01:19 AM
ends are crimped lugs both sides, backing plate side has a 5" coil spring and typical round cable that snaps into baking plate.

pass side is probably 60", driver side is probably 32" long.   spliter to petal probably 48" long, which has no spring but rather 12" of un sleeved cable and then 4" of threaded adjustment at the spiter end.

front axle shafts new joints installed
front axle reassembled with new rotors, calipers, pads, lines
trans mount pulled, cleaned painted, hardware changed
exhaust stud fixed
new pressure and return steering lines run
engine mounted back on chassis

fuel tank decided to leak today- looks like a crack in bottom opened up when skid was drawn tight.  crap.

front pipe on way or down at south already..
Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: M4wdFab on December 17, 2016, 03:50:48 PM
body positioned last night.

mounting today taking a little more time than i had though.

2 mounts missing from frame, see where they were cut and ground off, and two other mounts i had to move for the fiberglass reinforcement.

8 mounts done, 2 mounts to weld on, and throw the front clip on should look like a jeep!

body mount kit pretty close just had to large spacers for 2 spots and make holes in 4 frame mouts larger, and new longer bolts of course.

windsheild frame is fiberglass too.  javent decided if it will get painted. the grey it is actually is in good shape.

also fun fact: when mounting 2.5" back spaced wheels you have to mount them backwards- humped on one for 30 minutes then after checking that i didn't get sent 16" rims instead of 15", decided to try from the other direction because the indent was closer, fell right on as it should have in the first place.

first test drive, successful

jeep is 99% needing hard top bolted down, belts bolted in, and reverse lights hooked up to trans harness.  some under hood details and clamps but nothing big left.

tonight:
roll bar bolted in
YJ booster, MC, fire wall bracket sourced from Matts pile, installed
front hardlines and Tee plumbed
brakes bleed
new steering gear installed (required frame modification from reman fittings too tall)
new soft door lowers came in today that have the correct latch, fit right on.

motor running great, automatic happy in first and reverse so far.
Title: Re: m4 CJ7
Post by: M4wdFab on January 07, 2017, 08:45:30 PM
hard top bolted down
ebrake cable hooked to dash petal and adjusted for function
all under hood wiring cleaned up
reverse lights harness fixed and plugged to trans, works
tires set to 28psi
YJ hood prop modified and installed
last hose clamps on tank filler neck hoses installed.

washer bottle pump shot
htr blower motor ok, dash switch or under dash  wiring issue
have steel for front and rear bumpers, started eyeing up a plan.

steers and shifts as it should.

pleanty of power with the 35s and 2.73s for city driving so far.

front bumper fabricated, painted, installed

title status update:

tomorrow will be 1 week from phone call to title bureau.

I did get an email responce today from my 4/3 "DMV's Ask a Question service" request:

Dear Customer:

This is in regards to your title.  you and I spoke on the phone on 04/06/2017, I have a search I for the original paperwork to find out why the title was not issued yet. I have not received this paperwork yet to provide you with an answer. I should be receiving that paperwork any day. If you have any questions please contact us at 518-486-4714.

Thank you
Ada K.
Title Bureau

looks like they plain lost it, or its sitting in a special department for investigation......

If it were the latter I've got to imagine the record would be flagged - but that's assuming there's anything that goes through as a record separate from the literal paperwork forms that must get shuffled across desks.

put ~100 miles on this unit today, valve cover reseal attempt was a disaster and made it 10X worse.  attempt X2 completed after home.  will try again.

not bad.  dime size drip today which may be still from sunday trip and chassis washing.

thing is fun to drive.  i like it.  good power.  put in 8.5 gallons after ~100 miles.

i think high beams and low beams are switched on the front wire harness.

pleased!

I saw about a dime size drip under it when you parked at Salvatore's too. that might be current status.

considering there was two constant drips to about basketball size puddles before i am thinking this may be and improvement.  needs a wash down and inspection now.

had a buyer for my old seats so they got pulled and gone.  installed new corbeau driver seat- not happy.  would be good for ridding in the hood but not very comfortable for normal driving.  the most upright position is way to far reclined.  or its faulty.

PO hacked seat bracket install its pretty crocked in a few dimensions.  need to pull, fix holes and glass and mount correctly.  should do bed line also.  maybe this weekend.
