Spent some time up at Dennis's shop this evening. This is a holding spot for a parts list and plan for full hydro, links, and air shocks up front once the LS 4.8 goes in.
I'll have to introduce Dennis to the site...
-
4.8 cool!
i have been open to that idea for my next project
-
So the 4.8 is on an engine stand in the back of the garage already, just needs flash and harness. Dennis has already talked to Mark about that.
We were looking at steering geometry between high steer and the spring over leaves and how that really doesn't look right without a _lot_ of thought. Instead of lots of thought on that, why not a little less thought on where some 4 link bars could hit the chassis?
Thinking some 2.0 or 2.5 air shocks, 2 x.25 square lowers, and not sure on uppers - 1.75x.120? .188? 1.25 heims on all ends - could probably go smaller on top. Encouraging heims for ease of maintenance vs blowing bushings all the time.
Dennis picked out this ram, seems right? I've not looked at the surplus center double ended before.

Current plan is finish reassembly of axle hubs and brakes and axles and such, then move on to 4.8 install, and work link and crossmember placement around new trans and D300 support locations along with skid plate changes.
Probably looking at an Artec truss for the front for ease of link brackets along with steering mount. Thoughts on the balance there? I'm thinking the jigsaw puzzle plus relatively mindless welding vs designing a ram mount plus upper link mounts from scratch is probably a worthwhile exchange.
I did shoot him a link last night but haven't seen a registration yet.

here's the truss I was thinking of, took me a bit to find on their site.

Dan is an artec dealer
-
What vehicle is this?
-
send him a friendly reminder my air shocks are for sale
-
i have a pile of steel links from things with 1.25 bungs
Lucas runs a surplus ram on his new car........ :o
Artec truss is crazy heavy but cool. did one on ryans 4 seater
-
details, Troy?
that surprises me about Lucas.
I have my old front links, not sure I'd reuse the lowers as much as they've been bent and bent back, and the uppers are clearanced.
I'm sure we've got a good pile of some spare stuff that could look for a new home between us though.

2"x18" sway aways, cant find any used to compare price too $700 maybe?

Why 4.8 over a 5.3 or 6.0? Just curious. Turbo?
-
just availability. no reason not to, they're in much less demand

Old wiring harness is gone and working on new one
In closing, as a new member, I will try to update this '83 Jeep CJ7 project which is getting a complete drivetrain update - 1 tons - Dana 60 Kingpin, 14 bolt, 4.8 LS Vortec, Dana 300 TC and recently rebuilt TH400. I really appreciate all the M4 members help thus far!!!

Hooker exhaust manifolds fits really well!
-
They're ceramic coated black part# 8501-3HKR for in case someone's wondering.

I got them for my Sonoma HighRider (ZR-2) project which I abandoned and scrapped.

Nice fit!

nice looking CJ

It's really got a nice stance on the 42s.
