O my. what i have done.
i hate fords. cant believe he took what i offered him, i was on the fence and left it in his hands, really hoping he would say no.
lol
starts, runs, moves, bucket fully functional. he has owned and used for painting for 20 years. never let him down claims / has been siting for 1 year. has 2020 stickers on it
has a blown brake line somewhere, and front pump seal on trans leaks.... a lot.... probably 1 quart in 5-10min idle
plans are to diaper it or pull the boom out and make a unit thats functional on my RAM, or pull the trans and fix the 3$ seal and brake line.
monster cat present, 3 batteries, and more scrap value than i paid im sure as is, clean open title with open receipt acquired.
meh
-
5.8L v8 just took the boom for a ride and checked out my barn roof. works good.
-
Too bad the trans seal is such a bear, that seems like an ideal unit!
I bet a tip jar for friend’s use would keep it registered and insured for free if it’s worth running. Tree trimming and decorating, gutter cleaning, yard lights….
Of course a flatbed mount is lots less to maintain and lots of us have flatbeds already.
-
its probably not horrible, i just talked to will about ford vans- he changed a motor on his he just traded in. with the dog house the trans bolts are easy to get to, and its 2wd... so i bet 4 hours on the lift i could RandR the 4$ seal it needs. might be sketchy to get the boom over the front of the van so its out of the way of the lift to get it higher than 3' off the ground ha
looks like the two big deepcycle batteries are 2016 dated and the engine battery is 2019, so there is that. it was hooked to a big boy charger when i showed up.
worked fine just now with engine off to check out my barn roof while still on the trailer. seems to operated fine.
-
welded diff and chains might be in future if it stays on the van to get around my barn.
seems like lots of rental possibility also.
-
thinking ill order the 9$ seal and get it in the shop. she how bad it looks to pull the trans. plan to cut the cat out to potentially pay for 2/3's the investment.
Flat black would look way better than rusty white so it might get a gravel spray job too haha
-
pushed into the shop tonight and on the lift! trans pulling thursday. off to Buffalo tomorrow for Dentist appointments with Mom
-
trans 100% disconnected and ready to pry off and on to a trans jack.
only broke one starter bolt that should be easy to fix, had to use torch on all 4 TQ bolts, weld a nut on to the other starter bolt.
not too bad.
its hot.
-
I'm not going out there haha
-
success, no leak after trans torq converter input seal changed. took a lap around the barn and knocked a few bees nests out, solid unit.
crimped off rear brakes (needs a hardline, brake hose, 2 wheel cylinders (maybe rear hardware kit bah) to get back in service. front brakes seem fine for lot duty.
changed a steer tire that was badly edge worn even though all front end components are tight
-
cut cat out and sent numbers to john and will, its like 2' long and big lol
probably need to hook muffler back up at some point.
and reinstall the dog house, cab gets hot with out it.
-
its hot.
That you?
-
i mean it is a Ford, so...
but no- i was fine today with 3 fans running.
-
back on the lift tonight for some odds and ends
exhaust reconnected with CAT delete, sketchy krispy starter motor kick wire replaced.
batteries still had charge after sitting for a week
took the unit around the house and inspected gutters, i have a family of birds in my electric weather head service elbow thing, but clean gutters roof in good shape!
ready for service or rental i think!
-
Interested in rental... I found a gutter issue on the high side of my barn that needs looked at and a high bay bulb that needs replaced.
-
used for solid 30min around property. I have a piece of flashing gone off my house i hadent noticed. i remember scrapping it a few months ago it was wrinkled on my lawn and i was puzzled where it was from
guess i need a 10' brake now lol
-
also ripped it down to the gas station to throw some fuel in it. fuel gage even works! not terrible on the road, wouldnt take much to get it solid.
-
my bro-in-law has one I'm sure you could use, but probably needs to stay at his house (not far from me)
-
Anyone want to be the first to rent? i can drop it or you can tow it away on my equipment trailer.
seems like a solid unit and i have used it at for at least an hour around my property without issue. something seems to kill the batteries after it sits for 10+ days but its fine for a week and boom operates normal if the van is running. doesnt over heat or anything weird far as i can tell Idling long term.
-
I’m game. Next week?
-
I'll take it after Mark. I need to fix a piece of siding 30' up. I don't want to climb.
-
Ok Mark, how long you need it for? Like hours or days?
i need to hit J&J and stop at Johns to drop converters in shortsville so that probably be good to visit Eric
-
Couple hours. I can hog it to Eric or he can pick it up from my house. Or he can use it first. I'm good with whatever.
-
realized my RAM is hooked, i no longer need a J&J visit, and im lazy this week. available for pickup on the equipment trailer or next week i can make a run east out and make some visits.
-
I'll prob make some time to drive out this week, maybe even tomorrow afternoon.
-
sounds good Mark, shoot me a message when you think you will be out here and ill have it loaded on my trailer for you. 2 5/16" ball
Ill throw the big boy battery charger in the van in case its needed.
only quirk is ignition van key is deleted, so when you shut it off/start it via the dangling column switch make sure its left in one from all the way off (so ACC doesnt drain)
-
and honestly if you and Eric throw some fuel in it and it appears back to my lot, im good with that lol
if it breaks call me ill come get it / fix it lol
-
loaded on trailer ready for pickup
-
What a machine! You want it back in your lot anywhere specific? Want van unloaded?
-
thanks guys for returning! hope it served you well. maybe a efan is in order, or potentially its a leave the rad cap off unit lol
im sure it will get some love here and there but certainly is a mostly functional unit as is.
-
found some grease fittings and blindly pumped them with the dewalt gun after using today one both peaks of my house. worked great. was a bit windy.
-
dropped today for rental this weekend.
put 30$ in fuel in it, about 1/2gal leaked on to trailer.... must be rotten filler neck- didnt seem to leak if i went slow.
half to look at that never
-
that rental isn't on this side of town is it?
I could use it for hanging lights, and I could use the trailer it's likely on for some running around, too. need to get pellets and I've got a new mower picked out, maybe
-
just in Henrietta till monday or tuesday.
-
its christmas light season so better book your rental!
-
o man, gave me a couple hiccups tonight and i mistakenly forged on with use being 3/4 of the barn done and lighted.
had to call nick to come let me down. for some reason boom down stopped working. when he switched to manual overide at base, nothing there worked, but then when switched back bucket controls worked again. odd. ill investigate in daylight. glad i took my phone with me, that would have been annoying. i had tested the base controls once when i got it and they all worked fine. hmm.
-
also, head lights are in op, only amber running lights and brakes working lol
-
no hickups today with another solid hour of use and finished up back site of barn.
-
fixed trim on house last week ago. starter motor is needing of tapping on for use. can do from inside the cab with the dog house removed lol
found a noname starter on amazon for 46$ i guess i should have ordered that last year.
hawging to moms house for some exterior work tomorrow i think
-
hawging == driving it? 🤞🏻 🤞🏻
-
no, on the trailer lol
cluster today.
hammer on starter no worky. pulled starter.
blew rectifiers out of my big charger testing starter on bench.
DVM batteries dead mid charger diagonosis.
bah. looks like its worth some parts to put into my charger since you cant buy non smart 200amp chargers any more.
-
found another charger on CL and picked it up. nice unit, much better shape than mine, but ill still order the parts to fix mine once i understand what kind of rectifier it needs. something about anode vs cathode mount
-
got a new starter motor yesterday, all good. no more tappy tap needed to fire up.
-
boom extend cylinder leaking badly
removed cylinder and disassembled today. quite the process.
not having any luck looking up parts bah
-
take that back, i recalled Farmcraft youtube did a similar where he went though seal sourcing
https://www.herculesus.com/index.php
-
Good luck. Hope it gets fixed, it is very useful
-
ya it should be fine, might have to order parts.
might give me confidence to tear down / trouble shoot main lift ram that sags. now that i understand how the double acting rams with saftey check valve block things work, i think the lift ram would be easier to service / rebuild than the one im doing now. then 4 hoses, my entire system would be new.
-
that looks like a good seal source to know of!
-
spent some time last night looking, meh
walked into cylinder service today of Maple street / Mt Read
https://www.cylinderservices.net/
A++++ experience. guy at counter was super nice, looked up every part quick, evaluated what i had- gave me a quick lesson on assembly and a few tips to look out for / cleanly ness. no pressure or push-back that i didn't bring in the cylinder for them to do the work ect. nice big clean shop.
charged me 33$ for like 7 items i needed that he had on the shelf! He also was using the Hercules book that he said they stock all out of that book that supports about 95% of normal cylenders. they have some other options for odd ball stuff.
it was refreshing to have a place be useful and not rape you.
next time i have to rebuild shocks i will probably just go there for parts too.
-
and for the shitty van update.
boom cylinder rebuilt, reinstalled. first cycle to bleed jammed and broke wire accordian. F me. no idea what i did. looks like i can remove most of it easy with out re doing all the work i just did through another access hole. bah.
main lift cyl seems to also be bipassing so im thinking im going to pull that one also and rebuild.
then probably re wire
and mine as well change all the hoses on the fucking thing my lord what i pile.
-
Ouch! 🤬
-
105$ this looks awesome and plug and play wireless solution for bucket controls and also would be handy to use as material handeling to control boom (you have to be inside van right now for base control.

spent some time and some magic, got the wire track bits snapped back together. i discovered it was separated in 4 places when it jammed, but nothing broke- they snap together.
got it cycling and working great, but the wire must have gotten damaged so that will be next to trouble shoot.
took it apart and seems simple at both ends, but no power at bucket end. testing continuity on 30' of a 12wire cable is annoying solo.
-
I'm available this weekend if you need more hands
-
Ok i think i got this guy back in action. i was being dumb or it magically fixed whatever the power issue was while mapping out the electrical and hydraulic system of this thing.
discovered it actually has 2 fully independent hydraulic pumps. one tag'd main, one tagged aux. this explains the other switch that runs a pump from the bucket (which i didn't know a different pump was running based on similar sound)
back to fully functional, with potentially a weak but not externally leaking lift boom. with my fat ass in the bucket at full extension it struggles to lift but half extension it lifts.
might be a ram internal bypass issue, might be a control pressure issue.
-
need a redneck fix for this replacement next
water dumps in, headliner has moss on it lol
https://store.versalifteast.com/store/p/83-Rubber-Roof-Boot.html
looking for a roll of torch on roof i think, just burn a few layers in i guess
-
awakened from winter slumber tonight, started up like a champ and pulled into the shop on 3 flats
aired up the two fronts (that i deflate to fit in little garage) and threw a new it it 2010 tire on the back wheel that was rotten rubber and blown cords hanging
-
Is this unit ready for rental? I have to clean gutters and soffit vents.
-
it should be good, i was waiting for a few more days of sun to firm up the lawn before i fix some lights on the side of my house. i will let you know.
it drifts down slow sometimes if your way far out or heavy but i think its been like that forever. i will rebuild the main lift cylendar at some point (internal bypass leak, not an external leak)
-
successful rental to Shortsville and back with no complaints
still on trailer if anyone needs it this week.
