here's the list i came up with tonight of stuff to do before it can be driven to rc...
-NYSI (monday)
-change transmission oil
-remount front shocks & mount rear shocks
-rear pinion bearing
-check bearings & brakes (adjust rears)
-powersteering cooler
-move grill & put fenders on (paint them?)
-tow points /bumpers?
-check diff oil /replace?
-power outlet
-yourk?
-random other small things
-put front brakes from '85 axle
probably forgot a couple of things... i'll figure it out as i go, haha
-
i have a cooler ill trade for a case of beer if you want, it was my old trans cooler, its in fine used shape. i also have a TIny one the Erok left thats new
-
sounds good to me
-
That gear oil pressure tank is available if you want to do duffs and trans at my place.
-
if it helps i found aluminum tube that is 3/4 OD and 5/8 ID. I plan to use it for my shock bushings. it was at tractor supply. you could have some if getting it from me makes sense financially. it was $5 for a 3 (?) foot stick
-
thanks
i'll let you guys know
-
off to take care of the nysi :-)
-
one thing off the list..
-
i keep adding to the list...
not looking good for the cj
bah
-
borrow a tow dolly and drag it down with the XJ
-
what happened between the hour of your last two posts that is killing your chances, your doing it wrong haha
-
borrow a tow dolly and drag it down with the XJ
that would kill the xj
i've still been working on it, but still don't want to drive it down
-
nothing on the lift tonight if you want a hand, i am just making some Wreck wheeling comfort tweaks to 571 tonight.
-
If my YJ can make it your CJ can :) Pinion bearing party tonight?
-
Pinion bearings fawwwwk me!!!
-
borrow a tow dolly and drag it down with the XJ
that would kill the xj
i've still been working on it, but still don't want to drive it down
I used a XJ to tow another XJ on a dolly... works just fine
-
I towed a CJ on a u-haul trailer with my ZJ on 35" tires. It worked, was slow, but worked.
-
sure, what time? i have to have time and a way to get to advance to get the right bearing...
my cherokee is not that solid...
and it has a 1" light duty hitch
-
zone or advance had all 4 pieces in stock you need when i checked last week for the Wonder. i even have prices and part numbers written down at home.
-
when will you be there?
-
i have to shoot to wegmans when i get out around 5 so ill be back at the shop around 6
-
so i don't have a carter single barrel carb...
trying to figure out what it is...
might be a holley..
how about propane...
ha
-
take a picture...
-
motocraft?
200$ ill give you everything you need minus a tank and the hose.
mixer (i think should bolt on)
regulator
tank fitting
tank brackets brand new
i have a tank you can borrow for a little bit also
-
i have a few more pics

its a holley 1946 1 barrel
came on my cj stock, i wonder why i got the wrong kit..
http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Holley_1946_1_Barrel_Carburetor_Kit_p/4320.htm
that looks to be the correct kit
-
don’t bother rebuilding it...
If you plan on running a carb get a MC2100 conversion kit and be done... you will thank me later..
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131514
there use to be a guy on ebay who sold kits...

-
sounds like a interesting swap
arie, can you get that carb? i keep seeing autozone part numbers that don't cross reference to advance
the autozone part # is 64-5174
-
Old one is needs a rebuild I take it?
-
yes, my carb need to be rebuilt or replaced with something else
been having issues with it for a while
-
i have a carter, and motocraft that both ran fine on that engine :)
-
you have this mastercraft carb?
is it for sale?
-
no, thats a 2bb carb, a hassel for you.
just rebuild what you have for 20$
or convert it to propane and never think about it again
carbs suck!
-
i know its a 2bb
doesn't seem to much of a pain
not having a great time finding a rebuild kit for this holley
propane isn't simple either :-p
carbs do suck
-
right, all these things i've been reading, they start with 2bb
haha...
.idiot..
-
propane could be running that engine in 10 minutes, it is simple.
i could have it set up by the time you ran down the street to fill the tank
-
you could just try it, and decide for your self it is a hassel to get fuel based on the milage you get on road. i never really did the math, but i used about 75% of the "gallons" i used to use of Gasoline when wheeling a weekend at rausch or Gore
-
don't you have to plum cooling lines too?
ok i'm wrong, haha
i have to hook up my speedometer, haha
-
the Mc2100 can be fitted on a 1bbl manifold..
or upgrade to a 2 bbl manifold...
Carbs don’t suck if they are set up right... and the simpler the design the better...
propane exhaust gives me a headache...
-
either way isn't bad
i don't know
smike, is the mastercraft one you have this 2100 model?
what would you want for that?
lunchtime
-
go propane and at least try it.
-
You have a MC2100 sitting, smike?
I'm tired of dieseling on shutdown. Maybe I should think about a carb that's worth tweaking.
-
i'll have to extend my exhaust so it goes out from under the cj...
it ends just above the rear axle...
should be one regardless
-
no, why on earth would i spend money on another POS carb they all suck, no matter how many hours you tune them- and i would know seeing as i work with the people that designed them
i thought it was called a motor craft or something that i have
i actually went home for lunch, and i have a Carter 1bb that was on my CJ, but the botom end Fly is bolted to a propane mixer and somewhere maybe in the old shop i have another 1bb carb, i think its an older RP mono jet that was a tank.
if you smell exhaust on the jeep regarless of fuel source, you have much more worse problems
-
a tank side to side but the float would get stuck if you nosed up at 50degrees or more
-
yeah it's motor craft or moto craft, not master craft.
-
I'm tired of dieseling on shutdown. Maybe I should think about a carb that's worth tweaking.
I dont think thats a carb issue... had that on my YJ at some point in my life with the jeep
if you smell exhaust on the jeep regarless of fuel source, you have much more worse problems
i dunno, all the propane powered shit I have ever driven give me killer headaches...
its a common thing I have heard...
-
may just be running hot. I have no temp gauge (on anything I daily drive)
-
now that you say that I think it had to do with the EGR valve...
it drastically lowers the cyl head temps..
check the EGR tube and valve function
-
functional. I can hear them open and close under the hood.
may be a leak under the car somewhere though.
-
i have a cooler ill trade for a case of beer if you want, it was my old trans cooler, its in fine used shape.
my beer fridge was empty for mike this week
;D

-
saw that, happy with my stock ones (once i clean them up, paint & install them)
have other things to put $200 into...
-
i think i might have found a 2bb intake
and a set of not so whooped leafs
-
Oh, duh. I have a 2bbl intake on the parts car along with the questionable Carter bbd
-
well, thats interesting, that's probably a better deal than what i found
so how much do you want for that?
smike how much do you want for that motorcraft 2bb?
-
If you'll pull the head for me you can have the manifold(s)
-
i have a Carter 1bb that was on my CJ, but the botom end Fly is bolted to a propane mixer and somewhere maybe in the old shop i have another 1bb carb, i think its an older RP mono jet that was a tank.
i do not own any 2bb carbs
-
got it
oops my bad
i'll have to look into that carb more..
-
just buy the rebuilt on on ebay already and be done...
ill cosign that shit if you dont like it
-
Carbs are garbage. Go propane and pick up 20hp and better driveability. Just my opinion after having run both.
-
or do that...
but for all of our sanity...
pick something and run with it..
the only bad decision is indecision..
-
haha, thanks
propane isn't really the best thing to run on the road is it?
other than that i'll quietly make up my mind
-
My 2bbl mani and a 2bbl Motocraft is second best behind throttle body injection IMO.
Carbs do suck though.
-
As long as you carry a extra tank on the road driving will be greatly improved. Throttle response will be improved and you should get tbe same mpg. And propane is much cheaper than gas.
-
If you're willing to give up the cargo room...
-
2 propane tanks is a lot of room..
1 is a lot of room too
-
so while doing research on the mc2100 carb swap i stumbled on one for sale on some random forum, the ad is about a year old and has a phone number. so i sent the guy a text & he got back to me today & still has it. he's sending me pictures tomorrow or tuesday & a price shipped.
sounds good, nice (hopefully)
-
its running but needs more tuning
fenders are painted and installed
-
just in time to drive it into storage... ;)
-
Painted with primer?
-
yes, primer just like the rest of it...
-
This thing is a gasoline geyser creating machine!!
-
did i miss something last night? haha
-
Yup. It's still in the Mac's lot.
-
ha, no good.
M4 should fix this hog
-
I have no idea what happened.
I got halfway home after finding out Tahou's closes at midnight, and got a call for a jump. CJ was running when I left.
When I got back it was 5 car lengths up and in the middle of the parking lot.
Started right up and died.
Cranked and killed the battery. (I think this was the order)
Grabbed on of the three new batteries from the back of the car and hooked pos cable, grounded neg to grill support strut. Cranked and didn't fire. I took a shower in an amazing 10' geyser of gasoline that shot out the top of the carb. Then a bit later it started again and ran, idling at 1500+
Swapped the + cable back, told him to take it around the lot a couple laps and it died an wouldn't refire before he even made it to the back of the building. Pushed it into a parking app and I took him home.
-
carb is NG
-
omg take this thing to M4 for the love of god!
-
Sorry Paul, but this is funny ;D
-
this motor was a sweet motor in my CJ :)
-
on PANE
-
Now only if someone had a propane kit ready to bolt on :D
-
If only.
-
ya
-
this thread is killing me just as bad as the ranger gas tank saga
-
so don't read it & complain about it
