That's a beautiful truck.
Use in good health.
-
Looks very familiar. LOL. Congrats Mike. Can't wait to experience this beast in person.
-
i forgot to tell you i dryhumped your steering wheel and in the law of nature this truck is now mine. very jealous of the setup
-
haha
ya its too nice for me, but it will do.
push to talk on the steering wheel to your phone.
sat radio is nice.
power mirrors are SOOOO nice
manual seats, rubber floors.
-
How is the mirrors with trailer. Need towing mirrors?
-
they are tow mirrors. they flip up
haven't towed with it yet. probably read the manual to see what the break in says
-
My manual said not to use cruise control or stay at constant speeds, no towing until 3k
-
warm it up, work it. no prolonged idle.
-
towing section says no towing first 500miles, first 500miles of towing 50mph or less and no full throttle starts lol
DEF tank is 9 gallons on C&C
12 quart oil system
5.7 gallons coolant system
ATF+4 in the trans
-
ATF+4 in the trans
ATF in a manual? :o
-
thats what it says
-
Dodge is revising a lot of it's manual tranny recommendations. First time I called for the jeep(years ago) it was some silly expensive stuff only they carried. Called again last week and they said atf4 now.
Power mirrors are a lifesaver at ATM's!
-
What are your plans with this regarding upgrades and mods?
I'm sure you're going to add a light bar or two :)
-
a couple things i dont like with the flat bed mounting / wiring
needs LED white back up / plate lights
forward trailer pigtail is zipscrewed mounted and looks a little hack
pin wood between bed and frame should be swapped for PT
going to add some tool boxes, probably just buy two new matching ones
first and for most needs seat covers. the truck is high and i really have to roll out of it. They wont last long with my filth.
a 50" bar will end up on the top of the headake rack, maybe a 10" or 24" facing back also
havent decided yet if it has as much ass as my 24valve. its hard to tell with the 4.44 gears
-
Wouldn't a 50" bar on the headache rack be ineffective because the cab roof would block some of the light's path? (can't really tell in the pic how high the headache rack is above the cab)
-
That is one sweet ride!
-
Stupid 4.44s.
You'll run circles around me maneuvering!!!

I wouldn't run atf4 in the trans. It's a g56, right?
I would (and have, myself) swap that out to Gorilla Juice. Seems to help keep em alive, looks like atf with Lucas in it. Could probably throw a quart of Lucas in there and I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Not sure what sort of trans warranty you're looking at, probably best to run through that with factory suggested fill just in case something happens. Seems a shame to give it the extra wear in the mean time but I guess it is what it is.

exhaust brake is pretty sweet.
-
Is it a true exhaust brake?
If so... make sure you lubricate it often. Ours in the Kodiak is not working from lack of maintenance. Need to remove and attempt rebuild before KOH.
PAC Brake makes a super exhaust brake lube.
-
i have no idea what it is,
i hit the button once for manual, twice for auto.
it goes BBBFBFBFBFBFBFBFBFBFBFBFBBF and i slow down

Lol
-

-
It's the variable geometry turbo. So it moves ALL the time. Only extended idling will eff it up
-
O I C
Good and Bad I suppose.
You have any experience with exhaust brake unit Mike?
Was planning to remove mine before AOAA but I bought a Ranger instead.
Seems like I can just disassemble clean lube and reinstall
-
FYI. a 15$ seat cover gets you 4 days before the seams blow!
-
Shocking.
I had a Banks Brake on the Dumpbus. Never loobed it. No issues. Was used and I resold it.

I just discovered last weekend there is one that's on 24/7 at the sour kraut factory. Me, chase, bike, bike trailer = 240.
-
So, how did the truck do over the weekend?
-
im still getting back use to towing with a 6 speed, some of the hills killed me and were user error. havent had a clutch in 2 years haha.
its pretty good. i was hopping for more power, but its 20mph faster on big hills than the 4300, and holds medium hills with cruse at 67 fine.
dissapointed half a tank of DEF only lasted 1300 miles.
we figured 29k lbs and 8 mpg this weekend
-
and i LOVE the exhaust brake. its the best thing since slice bread
-
looks like 8-900$ for a plug in non detectable tuner, no effect on re gen cycles / warranty
-
Sounds high but non detected is a selling point I've never heard pf
-
Sale on 55 gal drums of def ;D
-
my tuner for my 24 valve was 750, worth every penny
-
I wonder if it's an option to try first by ask the dealer if they can reprogram on your truck with a program that's used in 2014 Ram 3500 with AISIN auto trans? If I recall correctly on some forums some guys with the manual, they had dealer to reprogram them to bring the power level up to what's found in trucks with the AISIN trans.
2014 Ram 3500 with AISIN 385 hp, 850 ft-tq
2014 Ram 4500 with manual 320 hp, 650 ft-tq
2014 Ram 4500 with AISIN 325 hp, 750 ft-tq
If the dealer will do that for you, that'll pretty much means a 65 hp, 200 ft-tq increase for you!
Just an idea if it'll work to have the dealer to reprogram your truck and not void the warranty and possibly cheaper, or free if you can talk haha.
-
probably do this one
http://www.xtremediesel.com/edge-products-31006-juice-with-attitude-cs-monitor.aspx
gona research DEF delete stuff too, but not excited about turning wrenches on my new truck. rather just plug and p(l)ay
-
When I was riding with you, I noticed that interesting how it's max boost typically around 19 psi, spikes to 20-21psi sometime. It's just that it don't sounds much. I routinely hit 40 psi of boost in my truck, if I really want to push, I can get 50 psi out of mine, I'm sure it don't like it haha.
-
Smike,
Do a search on "torque management", the new 12 cummins I had with the G56 had the same feeling that your going through.
Ram basically has some software that de-tunes the engine (boost and whatever else) to keep the trans and clutch alive since they are only rated for 650 ft/lbs.
Most programmers are able to deactivate it, but I just wanted to make you aware of it before your tuner purchase.
The silver 12 Cummins truck I had was a 800 ft/lbs truck and it ran and pulled pretty decent.
I still like the 01 cummins I sold you, and if I bought another it would be a 01-07 with a manual.
On a side note I've been towing the JK with a A class motorhome I bought earlier this summer.

-
i guess walmart stocks a 2.5 gal jug for 12$
i have a 9 gallon tank bah
-
Kinda surprised you went through that much def. That's borderline medium duty usage. I'll usually get 7-8000 per 2.5 gallon jug. Towing it'll drop to 4-5000.
-
I think there is alot of saftey in the gage. Just put in 5 gals and it went from below zero to past 100%. Threw another jug in tool box.
-
Nick says his truck runs 30psi boost and its the 800 FT LB auto version, must be a 2013? 9.5mpg at 23K lbs
he runs the juice tuner, and said it didnt do much for the truck. We are going to try his tuner on my truck

I had Ziebart to undercoat my truck. I'll definitely have it done before your truck have any chance to start rusting. Go with their "rust protection" plan. They'll undercoat, spray inside rocker panels, and more and free reapply annually for lifetime of the truck and if you have it done when brand new, they'll fix the rust if it appears at free of charge due to that they didn't prevent rust.
-
Do it.
-
put in an email RFQ to ziebart.
Light bar isn't going to work where i mounted it. jet engine louder than hell @ 50mph+

we sell an amazing undercoat that puts the Zbart stuff to shame and you do it yourself so your not trust your rig to a HS kid...
-
put in an email RFQ to ziebart.
Go there and talk to a salesmen, you can be down to 1/4 price in about 15 minutes of himming and hawing. They're just like a shitty car dealer lol.
-
The only reason to zeibart is the warranty. Even if diy is better it doesn't offer that, or can it?
Tapatalking in traffic
-
I have zero faith that Ziebart would ever actually hold up that warranty.
But as far as their work goes, 7yrs later my truck is not rusting anywhere. Compared to Brains 08 ram over the summer, his has some significant rust going underneath and body.
-
how much should i be looking to spend at ziebart eric?
-
I should DIY my Ram. Too bad there's no lift around to lift it and get under it. bah.
-
wedge trailer works good for cummins truck inspections as bret and i found out! even good for short guys!
-
I paid just over $600 for the "rust protection" for my truck. I probably should've negotiated.
I think $600 is well spent because I can see it a very messy job and not only that, they reapply for free annually for lifetime.
-
And it's Brett! Ha
-
I think $600 is well spent because I can see it a very messy job and not only that, they reapply for free annually for lifetime.
This is a good point.
I paid $700 for rust proofing, undercoating, diamond gloss, and alarm w/remote start 7 yrs ago when they had a 2 bay garage on Lyell. (I also paid $100 bucks for reapplication every year until I went to the Henrietta location that informed me this was a free service ::))
I would expect $6-700 for rust proofing and undercoating. Last I knew they had "new car" packages where you could get the whole 9 yards; interior protection, rain X, diamond gloss, undercoat, rust protections, piant chip protection, and probably some other non-sense stuff for like $1000.
Looking back I would of got the paint chip protection on the hood. They put some kind of clear protective film on it. Mine is quite dinged up now.
-
I believe there is a place called Krown that does rust protection too, I'd check them out too. I dont know of anywhere else that does it?
-
https://www.krown.com/united-states/new-york/rochester/west-henrietta/
-
Sell the truck in 3 years and buy a new one
-
I should DIY my Ram. Too bad there's no lift around to lift it and get under it. bah.
I can possibly offer Shea's drive on lift in Honeoye for quick tasks. Its just gotta be at a time I can be there.
-
this thing got about 11 MPG on Tway to buffalo and back indicated. boo.
thought it was 14 ish when troy drove it home.
-
I was getting 7-8 for the first few thousand miles :o
-
Left my truck as Ziebart Canidaigua Friday after work for yearly inspection. They did a real nice job. It appears they re-coated the whole thing, no over spray anywhere underneath. No bs sales calls either. Picked it up Sunday keys locked in, bill for $0.
-
was it annoying / PITA to get to bolts and stuff when changing brakes / fluids?
-
Nah. It's a rubbery compound.
-
Yeah it scrapes off. I cant think of any normally serviceable parts they hit anyways. Mostly just the frame rails, cross braces, underneath of body, rear axle to the end of tubes, no engine/pan's, driveshafts, or exhaust parts
-
only places I really WORRY about rust is from inside the doors, inside the rockers.... frame rails get crusty after many many years but it takes decades for them to really weaken. They do anything in those areas?
-
waxoil for inside....

-
jeff, they drill holes and spray in with wands i think do do the same effect.
how they keep that shit off windows is magic to me.
pulling door liners would be no good every time it gets inspected.
-
Lets be honest for $349 divided by (lifetime of your ownership) max 8 visits plus initial install. Do you think they really inspect shit year after year. My opion would be to get the best job done the first time before the salt flys after that it is what it is salt. Our only luck this year is salt is expensive so they are promising to use less. Also how do they maintain weep holes in bottom of doors and rockers?
-
ziebart says warranty is transferable with the truck to different owners also haha
I look at it as a trade in help in 6 years
-
Yeah my truck have that same plugs.
-
They inspect it, I've set traps lol

trying to figure if there is an easy solution to make an extension for the black trailer. needs about 10" i believe. ball is deep in the deck, and goose coupler is all the way into the trailer to keep nose of trailer down. two things not helping lol

switch it to a 5th wheel?
-
100$ on a coupler and a few hours welding / steel is about all im willing to spend since this really will be a one or two time use.

im too cheap to bother

imo id buy aluminum over steel for a underbody, those rust and fall apart at the piano hinge

Stainless or aluminum is my preference. I see how "well" my bed itself isn't lasting, and it doesn't excite me to have a 3-4 year lifespan on $400+ of toolboxes.

My truck is about 1500rpm at 70mph. Checked it today.
-
thats crazy
-
that's about where mine is too.
Tapatalking in traffic
-
Our F550 would be right about 2200 give or take at 70 mph.
It is what it is.
That's why we hardly drove it other than for towing.
-
my redneck Ferrari is right around there towing @70
-
The BBB would have been at 3k if it could even reach 70. :o
-
BBB?
My Ram turn ~1900 with the NV4500, or ~1750 with the 47Re at 70.

big black box, his old F700 box truck

My Ram turn ~1900 with the NV4500
That poor 5th gear!
-
logged in just over 9K miles on this unit thus far.
couldnt be happier other than stupid cloth seats
today i get a nice "ding, check trailer wiring" message every time i touch the brakes :o
have to investigate- hope its due to snow and ice in the trailer connector that got broken
-
sounds likely :-/
damn things are too smart for their own good these days. I think I have the new plug in my stuff, we'll have to trade stuffs back and forth sometime this week.
-
was planing on the last 1/2 of shop unpack tonight. but feeling like its just too dam cold. meh
-
Way too cold.
When i open our shop door to drive in or out my wallet hurts.
-10 last night on truck thermo
-
air gun to trailer plug fixed.
also noticed i have the rattle / clunk in the front end now. different than big truck on Grated tires at 110psi clunk- more like ball joint / sway bar link clunk. awesome!
-
damn shitty roads...
trailer air gun? huh?
-
air gun to trailer plug fixed.
ding and dash light about check trailer wiring
-
ah!
-
cool air filter is not 200$ on this thing
-
Can't you just thaw & dry out the filter? The snow came in through the fender?
-
i could, but for 20$ after 10K miles and a week in the dessert, ill just change it. picked one up today.
-
first service performed last night
10026miles filled windsheild wiper fluid tank

first service performed last night

That's the only thing 'serviced'? Either you have giant windshield washer fluid tank or was out for a while haha.
-
air filter changed
-
Did you hook up the camera yet?
-
cold has slowed this lol
almost thought about it yesterday meh
-
got a dash message today
diesel exhaust filter 100% full
troy read manual, said to continue driving normal.
about 30 minutes of 80% max power till a regen complete message appeared the full power resumed.
was kind of annoying, interesting.
-
I know it's a different animal, but my bus used to do that. Dropped it to a lower gear one day a week to keep it blown/burnt/cleaned out. Never have me a loss in power so it could regen.
-
im confused- reading most complaints the DPF gets full from people driving there trucks too easy, not enough heat, load or RPM. they get responses like: stop driving it like a car, put some load on it, drop a gear and get the EGTs up
My truck gets worked pretty good, i dont see how hawging through the PA mountains at 28K lbs is driving it too easy
weird
-
put the back up camera in today and hooked to the edge.
-
They are great for hooking up trailers. Where did you put yours? Bumper or headache rack?
-
on the rack to see the goose ball
-
Nice
-
CEL comes on with 3 codes a few miles before the DEF alarm comes on. thats not very nice. truck stop's DEF pump we planned on bulk filling at was damaged and blocked off.
had to brown box 6 gallons for 45$ from rando gas station boo
-
this time CEL appeared upon startup in PA departure for home. not sure if it had anything to due with the 30 minute idle waiting to head to AOAA ::)
CEL read as too high frequency of regen DEF Filter
no restriction of power on the way home.
-
9.5 mpg rolled tonight. Nice
-
maintenance schedual wants rear diff fluid changed every 15K miles with towing. that seems annoying.
-
I think that seems a little bit more than annoying. I think perhaps "ludicrous" or "insane" might be more of what you are looking for
Tapatalking in traffic

that's how they get people to void warranty

65K on trans fluid
sounds like its going to EXPLODE at any minute in 5th gear awesome!
-
-
just to clarify:
65K is trans fluid service interval
truck currently has just shy of 15K miles
-
Perfect! :)
-
Standard operating status for dodge light duty trans.
But for real why not put a girdle on it before the rebuild instead of after?

ha

Ram forums told me the see dealer now for fuel system service message is lynced with calculated fuel filter life.
Changed oil and filter, Chassis fuel filter/water separater, under hood cartridge filter (67$ from Dealer with delphi discount), and greased everything.
holding off on rear diff fluid service. just beat after fluids and trying to tighten up my goose ball nut. apparently its been loose and beating it self. cant loose or tighten it, so i just welded it to the mount. \
now own next group of big boy sockets past the 3/4 HF set.
oil and fuel monitors reset, 2 DEF engine codes cleared 14940 miles

I still cant cross into WIX.. funny
-
got a plan for some flat bed extensions to drive buggy or a jeep on. Gona maybe grab some steel at lunch. Been thinking about this for a while and have a solid plan.
-
That'd be an awesome sight.
-
Think that idea would work on a '42 LM?
I know a guy with one ...
-
the bed is 9'6" long already, just going to make some 3' or so extensions or so, and with some 6-7' ramps they will all make stake sides for scraping too.
no idea what a 42' LM is
-
It's a 1948 LM (Load Master), not a 42, as mr wing pointed out privately.
-
Good idea on using the ramps as stake sides. Is that what Miller did with his F550? I remember seeing his sides and thought they looked odd.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
-
yup, he did
-
maybe half done. some tube supports and then tack up the ramps that are cut out. then stake side provisions.
-
ready for load test tomorrow in day light!
ramps have stake side stows, extensions bolt on with ten 3/8" bolts the little dewalt makes short work of in 2 min.
-
Can not wait to see this in person.
-
Need to hook up aux tail lights?
-
I was thinking some marker lights would be all...
-
its up pretty high and doesnt block visibility too much. not sure on the laws.
I was more thinking a crash bar that plugs into the reciever as these things were discussed on FB ;)
-
what would be slick is a piston from the receiver that would raise and lower the ramps...
-
ramps stow in stake side pockets. it would be kind long and tall if 6' ramps folded up. They might even need to be a lot longer to get anything normal on it. should have just make full sides at 9'6" but would have been HEAVY. all components now are tolerable to toss around.
-
Aluminum!
-
9'6" ramps still wouldn't get anything normal up there as tall as your bed is.
I need at least 10' ramps on mine to take care of breakover to get Gus up there as he sits
-
wonder 4.0 and 572 pull on fine. looks good. added 2 more bolts to take the tension on the deck. one of the ramp rails took a 1/2" bend on first use. note, 6' ramp of 2x2 angle .250 wall no good for anything more lol
gona try it out this weekend to pines.
-
Ran math for buckling of supports and bolt shear at the deck, im over 10X safety with 1500lbs on each ramp@3' load
she be fine!
-
Noice!

I’m curious to see a scale ticket
Tapatalking in traffic
-
truck is 10050 and buggy is probably at about 4500lbs right there
-
That's hill Billy bog and grog sketchy! Haha
-
nice work. looks legit.
I think i would have done it more like a beaver tail and split up that break over angle.
-
used Saturday, no issues.
-
Awesome.
Not that there's any motivation to change at this point, but I was thinking about this a bit and I would definitely put some angle to them, and set them up with tail lights. I'd probably also make them drop into your rear stake pockets instead of bolting to the bed.
revision II items.
or for mine if I decide I don't care about RAWR.
-
extensions angled down would put even more stress on the part i was most worried about- pulling the deck edge apart. also the reason why i didn't use the little kid china welded on steak side pocket. added 2 more bolts to make it 5 across each ramp. pocket would need a lot of steel and welding on the deck which i didn't want to do with 14' electronics.
literately takes less than 5 min to assemble or disassemble with a 3/8's dewalt and 9/16" wrench.
-
unbolted last night- nothing went TWANG!

not cool
-
i kinda want a 950 ft lb truck
cant run the tuner at all with the weight im running. truck is a pile in the hills boo.
-
Delete and tune?
-
not worth it when still under warranty. my trans 5th gear is fucked i should probably take it in or trade it in.
-
I have 800 I think. The tuner adds a lot to it when turned up. I don't tow as much as you do, but with my 36' Gooseneck full of everything we own I was pulling the mountain pass no problem. Set the cruise and go. I'm surprised yours feels so bad.
-
your scale weight is probably 24-26 not 34-36k lbs :o
650 ft lb truck, and running tuner on tow mode within 30 min it shuts the truck down in hard regen and sometimes even limits the power to 70% if you dont immediately turn the tuner off.
-
emissions controls and tuners don't play well, go figure :(
I guess if it's annoying in stock mode in the PA hills you must be a lot heavier now than we were to CA. I didn't think it was too annying to pull those grades at 55 doing what we were doing.
-
its only in PA hills.
no issues going to KY or IN races in tow mode with tunner on or CA trip.
-
truck has almost 19K on it now. 17K of that is towing
-
getting dropped at dealer Monday for airbag harness recall and trans inspection/repair ::)
-
fingers crossed that they also don't like the trans noise, and are willing to do something preemptively.
-
have to pull the tuner out which is a huge hassel, but meh.
Cortese cant handle my truck, had to go to GVD bah
-
GVD says nothing but document noise complaint about trans
did airbag harness and ECM got 3 updates, great!
retards
-
started looking for next truck. want same, with longer bed, auto. next upgrade for uconnect.
-
went to the DMV yesterday- upon blank faces tracing what i would like to do with my index finger over highlighted text on DMV documents, the supervisor was brought up.
I was informed i could do what i want, but needed a weight slip to change registration class with the added "Camping equipment"
Ran to Cat scales with the truck that decided to be 9680 (less than whats on the title now)
went back. took 3 girls behind the counter to casually decided what class to register me. One one said, we are going to call you a suburban, is that ok? i said sure as long as i get passenger plates! said yes. Girl says looks at weight and sees its lighter now. i tell her, i dont know how or where that number on the title came from, but id be happy to take a refund if i was over paying. she mumbled something and said eh were not going to go there, filled out the new weight on the form and ran it in the computer.
189$ for new reg, title. 10.50$ for scale
handed me plates and left.
reg (and new title on the way) says 2014 RAM SUBN nothing about RV or camper or anything. should be good for passing scales
also confused why my bank didn't hold the title, wasn't even sure i had one till i found it locked up.
i suppose i should check with Gieco to make sure insurance is happy still
-
Definition of "Suburban (SUBN)"
Published 03/31/2003 09:33 AM | Updated 12/12/2014 11:21 AM
My vehicle is listed on my registration as "SUBN" for "suburban." What do the word "suburban" and the vehicle body type code "SUBN" describe?
The term "suburban" is the term used in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law to describe the body type of a vehicle that:
has windows on the side in the rear, and
has seats in the rear that can be folded or removed so the vehicle can carry cargo.
check!
-
SUBN seems to be used for most SUVs
what weight is listed on the registration?
-
9680 on reg
-
just says G PASS 9680 2014 RAM SUBR instead of G COM 12000 2014 RAM FLAT
wondering if i should have thrown the jeep on the back so it would be unlaiden at 14K or something
so annoying that "weight slip" is so random DMV sucks
-
loan or not you always get a title, should say something about lein recorded or something to that degree to clarify your not the actual owner yet
-
Correct. Bank is recorded on the title as lein holder.

hence the phrase "clean and clear"
-
i guess i knew that. not sure what i was thinking.
replated and stickered. need to drop for an inspection sticker this week.
hauled two loads of garbage to the dumpster today!
-
clearing CEL's on this thing is getting annoying
delco crate filled with shop scrap for tomorrow morning.
-
See dealer service def. Gave me 150 mile warning, now at 80 miles till full limp. Probably should have turned around and made it closer back to home. No diesel techs tomorrow at any dealer out here.
-
Added insult, hissing 19.5 trailer tire when I pulled in with a bolt sticking out of it.
-
rough trip
-
shit x2
-
Where do you take the truck?
-
made it home
-
Glad you made it home. Hopefully faster than 5 mph
-
ya codes kept clear. its fine or it isnt. dealer wont do anything im sure. has to go in for a sticker this week and will get appraised for trade in while its there
truck shopping soon.
-
Going bigger? Or just different?
-
dealer had better do something about it.
-
dealers don't do anything preventative or proactive. only reactive when a truck gets flatbed'd in.
same truck but auto and 14' flat bed
-
this is reactive to a code you saw that gave you a 150 mile countdown.
they'd better.
-
maybe some day you will understand how dealers work.
no codes now they wont do anything.
it needs a sticker, ill have them document another transmission complaint, the 3 codes i clear, and have Brad give me a trade in number. a phone conversation with him i can already tell he will be more useless than the last time i tried to use a salesman to find me a truck. those are my expectations.
-
a dealer will only do something if they can bill the parent...
if they have to eat any cost, part, or labor you better be a no. 1 customer or VIP..
otherwise you're SOL
-
I only take it there because Brad will have it washed and detailed haha
-
man do these trucks look so much better with out stupid chrome on them

GVD says they are booked till July 21'st for service. thats pretty comical.
-
Vision or corteese do truck service? I can make a call
-
corteese wont touch my truck, looks like Vision has a only one single wheel cummins 1 ton on there lot, so probably not them either.
-
Don't know how far you want to travel looking for a new truck, but Upstate Dodge in Attica has a number of cab and chassis sitting in their lot.
-
ya, i looked when we drove by. ill take a look at there site.
-
not much there.
i just use trucktrader, its way easier to find what you want.
-
ordered a DEF tester for 16$ off ebay.
date codes in Regional DEF suggest January manf. its HOT in that warehouse. life i think was 6 months at 95F i believe.

I need to stockpile pre-07 trucks.
that shit's bullshit.
-
I need to stockpile pre-07 trucks.
that shit's bullshit.
Hoping to get a lot of years out of my 06
-
Makes me sad they have completely stopped investing in manual trans technology, wonder how many years that's got left.
-
all the delete kits say they dont play nice with C&C trucks also. havent found any info on that.
-
30K service complete minus rear diff that needs a change
12quarts oil
oil filter
fuel filter under hood
fuel filter / water separator chassis mount
air filter
monitors reset
-
no lights or issues to buffalo and back last night.
fueled for weekend tow.
-
fingers crossed. have snapon code clearer still?
-
ya its josh's box i borrowed that seem to do a better job in clearing emission data than my tuner would.
-
I thought is was decent for the money since it does live data which was what I wanted it for after diagnosing some wiring/sensor issues.
I'll grab it at the picnic next week if you don't need it..
-
cleaned and detailed interior of this thing last night. looks like a new truck again. finally got all the KOH sand out.
finished 30K service and lube. no grease fittings present on 4x4 front shaft.
both front unit bearings and wheel u joints have non zero play which i thought pretty odd for a 29K truck. nothing grease able of course ujoint or ball joint wise.
-
DEF test unit came yesterday, fluid in my tank Passes- was right in spec.
-
dealer says they want a 2 week window to pull trans for rebuild!
-
they want 2 weeks to do it? I did it in 2 weeks while working my day job and having to weld the bellhousing together.
I guess they want to be able to wait for parts?
Good news though!
-
That is insane that they want a customer with a "commercial" truck to be without it for 2 weeks.
Did you tell them in the winter. lol
-
i should have just said do it when he called to talk to me but that would have left me with a jeep to get an entire picnic supplys to attica lol
going in Aug1. im sure they sched 2 weeks for delays. id imaging 1 day tear down, 1 day trans inspection, 3 days parts, 2 days assembly.
im more worried about why they are going to do wrong than the time frame.
-
they want 2 weeks to do it? I did it in 2 weeks while working my day job and having to weld the bellhousing together.
lol

Truck dropped Wednesday for thursday appointment.
usual it sits a day on there lot doing nothing.
my lot informant (Steve Mason) sent first update today, looks like they got it in finally

That doesn't look crazy for break in period.
Tapatalking in traffic

ya I thought that was fine for 30k. trans is out and apart and parts have been ordered is last i herd.
-
Interested to find out what parts.
Mine seems to be running cooler after rebuild - but warmer than historical norms... 220-240 instead of 190-210. Was hitting 270 before I went through it. Seems fine.
Tapatalking in traffic

my 5600 would run up to 230 when towing and it was 90F out
-
parts for 5th and 6th ordered
-
still on the lift waiting for parts since Monday haha
need to call the other service writer tomorrow that's handling the job.
-
parts in, reassembly has started today. Maybe ill have the truck back tomorrow!
-
status as of 3pm.
-
Looks almost done :o
-
bah, more parts on order, due Monday.
-
got the call, they said its good to go.
service writer not too knowlegable about actual rebuild parts so ill have to confirm
5th and 6th syncro(sp?) packs
5th gear pitting, changed
main input bearing changed
-
How many miles do you have on the truck?
-
30,XXX
-
picked up and swapped trailer behind the XJ to XJ on the trailer behind RAM
trans seems quiet in 5th and all is well.
Will see how she goes!
-
will post rebuild sheet- i forgot to even look at it, but has all the PNs listed
-
all good this weekend towing.
felt great on 90 with only two bros'
lol
-
fail
trailer lights left on sometime this week
truck totally dead. 2 hours with a Honda sitting on it i got a click. orange cord and charger pulling 3amps to both batteries not looking good.
hopefully grabbing two new batteries from nuway tomorrow before heading south.
bah.
-
averaged 8.6mpg this weekend. felt HEAVY in the hills. was super annoyed at Rt11/15 BS on the way down, decided to head up 81 and take the RC way home.
need to get the tuner back on and fill DEF tank
paid 2.95 for diesel in PA on the way there boooo
troy paid 2.69 for diesel on the way home at sheetz in Elysburg.
-
PA priced have been really really high for the last 3-4 months or so. Not sure whays up w that
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Truck stops are always .50+ then the current price, even the dans ville and Waterloo stops are way overpriced then home

Very very. PA stops have been running at roughly NY truck stop prices

averaging 7.6 mpg with PA trips
put tuner back in yesterday.
-
ouch
-
dead today, confirmed batterys nuked
installed new batteries
-
driver side has more "click" than passenger side but both noticeable upon wheel hump when on a jack.
cant identify if its unit bearing or ball joints. upper ball joint suspected most but its tough to tell.
probably rotate fronts and run them another 5-10K
-
how many miles on it now? same tires when new?
-
40K on truck, original continental HSRs on it. i noticed some uneven edge wear on the driver side during the 30K oil change. click in both wheels when jacked up, and both sides 4x4 universals had play
rears are about 50% tread even wear. should be good for service to 75K if i keep the truck that long.
-
front steers rotated
rear diff fluid changed
front TREs lubed
fluids checked
brakes inspected, 1/2"+ on all pads and rotors look good.
-
found this deal on ebay going to try.
dealer gets 65$ for the water separator usually.
-
missed the linkey.
I just used up my filter stock, time to re-up. I've been doing 7500 on oil and planned to do 15000 on fuel - but my fuel filters looked PERFECT. Not a drop of water and barely any sediment in the water bowl. I think I will significantly up that, and maybe change based on filter canister rust if not milage. They were a little crusty.
I'm running FS1242 water filter and FF5320 2 micron.
Engine mounted Mopar combo filter (FS43258) is still present and I plan to completely ignore it.
EDIT: mixed up numbers
-
opps
http://www.ebay.com/itm/272470643257
-
white box would have been 90$ for the chassis filter and 39$ for the under hood, 14$ for oil if i was impatient. its getting oil done this week, and if the filters come thursday possibly fuel before i leave this weekend.
-
I just priced out my replacements on ebay vs puredieselpower - I'll be going with the latter for certain.
Single source, same or better prices.
I checked your fuel filter though, and same deal. $70-$90 for the two stange on frame filter.
No way I'd keep that around if I were going to keep the truck long term. Same or better filtration costs me $28 after a one-time cost around $150 to get the dual spin-on mount.
-
i dont plan to keep the truck for more than 2 or 3 more oil changes but we will see.
-
45,383 mile service:
air filter
under hood fuel filter
chassis fuel filter / water separator
oil and oil filter change
tie rod lube
codes cleared
torn mud flap at mint400 shortened and reinstalled
-
have you been using the same brand of def since you bought that truck, some chatter on forums say that cel you get maybe related to low quality def and picky systems
-
i have tried a few after similar forum chatter. im betting my system is just fucked from running overloaded GVW on a tune.
i have tried bulk fill, walmart, or Fleet pride with same result. i refuse to run mopar at the 10X cost. i also use about 3X more than the brotow rigs on most forums with 2500s and dubs. I have a DEF test kit that i carry in the truck, i have never tested my tank out of spec.
-
want a 55 gal drum of blue... can drop at shop ;)
-
what codes you're seeing?
-
Here’s what we have on the Peak DEF…
(80) 2.5 gallon jugs/skid
$11.29/jug
$903.20/skid
Smike this is what I have bought for my yard trucks.
How is this pricing?
-
bulk fill at truck stops is usually 2.50-3.00/ gallon
usually at walmart or Regional International i pay 7-9$ for a 2.5gallon jug out the door.
Peak i think is one of the higher end fluids and
if your buying skids at 4.50/gallon i think you could do better with drums if your usage is enough to over come shelf life and operator pumping issues.
I drum wouldnt help me as my usage is low and half my usage is on the road...
-
about to hit 50K
this morning i forgot there was a 48' trailer behind me with the cruse set. Running good. CEL stays on for emissions bs haha
need to decided if the front steers are gona get changed before October or trade it in :)
-
What you're going to trade it in on? Another Ram 4500/5500 but with Aisin auto trans?
-
not sure. i could just tow with the 49 for a bit :) hahaha
ya id get a longer flat bed and 5500 with auto
-
broke 50K on this unit this weekend
getting a new windshield Wednesday- first time in my 16 years of driving i will be using insurance on a vehicle (full glass)
should be fun to watch how they do it with the new security cams on the job!
hopfully they do not destroy my truck
-
new glass installed. cams show took guy about 40 minutes to do.
glass says mopar on it and looks factory. insurance billed 408$, fully covered.
-
Do you have auto dim headlights or pressure sending wipers?
That’s the real reason for factory glass...
-
They actually removed all that annoying shit from the rams that Cherokees have a few years back
-
cant see anything different with new glass while driving.
inspection woes. i guess ill try to see where it is after a buffalo drive. if it doesn't set them by then ill give up caring about it.
looks like i need to put the tuner back in so i can watch it when its reg'ing and make sure it finishes. looks like it takes 3 re gen cycles to make most of them set.
-
lol what kind of glass did you expect?
-
shit chineese glass everyone complains about, in cab mounted mirror, and associated trim parts mounted by a 15$/hr tech
wasnt happy to see under hood trim pieces being ripped off and thrown to the ground on the security cam
-
I've had my Titan replaced 3 times, no issues.

I wish windshield laws are more lax. My Blazer have big cracks in its windshield for 4 to 5 years now with no ill effects.
-
I get glare from the cracks in the Jetta. need to get that done sometime.
-
same 4/10 emissions monitors only set since 5 min drive in addition to drive last week and just now to buffalo and back tonight.
fucking thing
-
Tuner messing with emission monitors or emission components themselves are messing up?
-
tuner been disconnected for at least a tank of fuel.
it has a historic code thats pending for regen freq too high but i cant clear it. (no CEL)
i have watched it regen at least 6 times. web said 3 times it should set 4 more monitors.
-
My best guess some towing miles w/o tuner should help with that regen "too frequent" pending code
-
it regens about every 15 minutes at speed, more if you let it idle.
either the tuner has broken components or i need to get that historic code cleared before it will be happy and run the tests. not going to let it bother me, is what it is.

4 weeks to get into dealer
what a pile of shit
-
mike do you know much about the waste gate on these trucks? some of the forum threads say soot clogs and sticks open / sticks closed? could mine be stuck closed and thats why it has over boost codes?
i guess i have 4 weeks to try somethings, or to just order a new truck haha
-
first: there is no wastegate.
the vanes on any variable geometry turbo can get sticky with age, usually on vehicles that are babied or sit for long periods.
you know you don't have sticky vanes - the exhaust brake does things. if the vanes were stuck it couldn't do anything.
I don't know if it's possible for vanes to partially stick? Seems to me it should be all or nothing. Could you have a sensor problem? Do you see high boost? My truck maxes at 29, I rarely see more than 27. I thought I remembered yours being lower than that.
-
Holy crap. I'm hard on my turbo lol
I think there's a "cleaning port" on the turbo to decarbon it.
-
Shit video but you get an idea
https://youtu.be/yN82utCPGgY
-
you've got something bigger than stock in your truck, right? as I recall the sweet spot for the HX35 is around 31-33psi, more than that and a lot of heat is the result. my wastegate kept mine to 33-34 on my 12v and it ran real nice [until it didn't]
-
youtu.be/yN82utCPGgY
I'm still running the stock, original tired HX35. Yes, ~30 psi of boost is about max. Anything more than that it get toasty. Waste gate not working (stuck closed).
-
today is the day! dropped off the RAM last night to avon Dodge.
taking bets on the bS they feed back to me!
my clear customer complaints:
1) NYS inspection: will not set more than 8/10 emission monitors in 2500miles with no CEL, currently only has historic pending Regen freq code, no CEL.
2) exhaust manifold/gasket leak causing squealing/hissing and lack of boost, lack of exhaust brake function
i bet i get back:
will not pass inspection, monitors not set- need to drive more
truck fine no boost codes, that noise is normal
sadly i forgot i cleared the 7 codes it had in Denver and drove home with no tuner and no brake. couldnt get any codes to set
it had in Denver:
P203F
P0234
P20E8
P20EE
bah
-
dealer call 1
asked if i want regular or HD inspection, says it will pass. (no sticker from new glass, valid question- but i bet they didn't plug in yet to find out it wont pass- morons)
expressed concern about exhaust leak noises again.
no parts avail for water pump recall that apparently can cause under hood fire lol
-
WOW
passed inspection
getting a new turbo and related gaskets under warranty NOV 27.
Internal non serviceable components blown.
-
you shouldn't need to have emissions monitors set to pass when >10,000#
my truck won't pass a plug in because it doesn't run monitors. I can only get a sticker because I'm emissions exempt. That requires a manual override of the inspection computer because my VIN doesn't show the correct weight class. Cab & Chassis problems. Bet your inspection shop was making the same mistake.
-
my truck registered as RAM suburban, passenger plate. no GVWR on registration.
what does your title say for GVW? thats what the DMV inspection system should reference?
but cant you get an inspection without a plate or registration so how could it not just be by whats on the door? hmmm
-
Oh, that may goof it up. you'd mentioned that, and I forgot. I think we've had this WHOLE conversation before. Except for that last part. That's a good point. I've always shown registration, not sure if that's required. I believe that new things I've picked up for out of state destinations that wear only a NY transit temp tag have had inspection stickers on them.
-
well think of like salvage inspection, or if you let your registration lapse or expire, DMV requires a valid inspection before issuing registration.....
-
Just a side note, you can get a vehicle inspected without a registration. I have to do it with all of the wrecked cars I buy.
On the nys computer one of the first questions is, if the vehicle is registered. If not, you can get it inspected off of the VIN alone.
It works the same way if they can't scan the registration on your window.
In your case Mike, that would be probably the best, since it would just come up diesel truck and not have to get plugged in regardless of what it's registered as.
-
I still don't understand the plug in vs not plug in issue.
In my experiences all my 3/4 ton trucks never had to be plugged in. Including the 2 gas trucks that had passenger plates (no GVW on reg) that "weighed" 6000.
-
you paid 11 not 21$?
door jam GVW over 8500?
who knows, its a hopeless system run by oil change monkeys what could possibly go wrong
-
oil change monkeys who have like 4 people in Albany they get to wait to talk to when things don't work right.
-
this unit dropped tonight at GVD for turbo replacement
-
35-36 trade number given over phone. not sure how i feel about that
i was hoping for north of 40 to push a new truck build, i guess i need to look at real numbers for tax benifit, flatbed stuff ect

hate the chrome package on my truck
you loose fog lights though without it
-
losing 4 Alcoas is a 1200$ option also. (outers and steers only)
-
looks cheap, unless painted to match the sheetmetal then that'd be tits.
-
I like the flat black way better then the chrome. the 4500/5500 front extended flares are already that color and texture anyway.
11.6 flat bed with taper corner quote looks good
day 2, the 4500 is still torn apart haha
-
losing 4 Alcoas is a 1200$ option also. (outers and steers only)
They are worth the $1200
Rusted steel wheels look horrible.
-
i think factory steel wheels should last 3-4 years. id rather paint them black when they get wrapped with 245s anyway
plus the alcoas are like soft butter, i dinged the crap out of one just laying it down on pavement when i rotated my steers.
-
this chart bothers me in so many ways

The Ram Max Tow package includes a new transfer case gear set and chain and sprocket upgrades, recalibrated transmission software and an enhanced collection of thermal management devices.
Max Tow is available on Ram Chassis Cab trucks equipped with the optional, commercial-grade Aisin six-speed automatic transmission and 4.88 rear-axle ratio. A 4.44 axle is standard on 4500 models and not available with the Max Tow package. A class-exclusive six-speed manual transmission is standard on Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab models.

after actually looking at the math, i dont think i want 4.10s
what i have now G56 / 225s / 4.44 rear / 6 speed 0.74 OD
68MPH = 2383 RPM
A Aisin AS69RC with 225s / 4.10 / 6th gear lock 0.63 OD
68MPH = 1874 RPM
A Aisin AS69RC with 225s / 4.44 / 6th gear lock 0.63 OD
68MPH = 2029 RPM
A Aisin AS69RC with 225s / 4.88/ 6th gear lock 0.63 OD
68MPH = 2230 RPM
-
update on the 4500
all back together but knock sensor elbow issue, something about needing another part overnight-ed because of a update that was made with the new turbo PN. should be done tomorrow.
-
that even makes 4.88 look quite tolerable, that's a huge OD.
-
right? and the RAM MAX tow seems like its a good option, and i wouldnt be out of my weight class for warranty issues
cant see how RAM says 17k vs 29k trailer from a gear change and trans flash. wonder if its bigger coolers / ect
but does that mean it gets 4mpg? lol
-
it did say something about additional cooling package for Max Tow.
the tow ratings are all about 26k vs over.
-
IMHO the cooling system isn’t a huge limiting factor. G56’s gears can’t handle the load as well as autos can like the Aisin.
-
it's in the cushion of the torque convertor and the tight integration between modern automatics and the engine ECU as far as torque management.
-
It would’ve be nice if they do offer one of 4.10/4.30/4.44 ratios in the max tow package for better empty/light load highway cruising mpg. Tow heavy in 5th instead of 6th.
-
it's in the cushion of the torque convertor and the tight integration between modern automatics and the engine ECU as far as torque management.
Valid point on the ecu on auto trans via reduce power output and release the TCC for split of a second when shifting. It’s actually mostly to avoid harshness
I kinda disagree on ‘cushion’, torque converter locks and no fluid-coupling in 2-6th gears.
-
TC locked shifting? I'm not aisin-familiar but that's a huge surprise if so. It's at the point of engagement that it matters.
-
so am i dumb in thinking ill have same or better milage with lower RPMs and better power with 100ftlbs of torgue and a smart auto?
I am thinking a 4.88 auto truck is going to be an improvement, maybe if its more than enough power change, swap to 245 tires as a back up since my trailer needs new 225s anyway?
-
that seems the best way to get max tow package and taller over all gearing
-
seems like a thing?
-
dealer of course moron when i asked, what tune or what mechanical change is the actual MAX TOW package upgrade.
-
apparently when you put a Chrysler employee discount code on the table your trade decreases 4000$
crooks!
-
pioneer guys are still a joke
looks a door tag, looks at mileage on dash, walks around truck once at a brisk pace, goes in and looks on phone for 60 seconds and cant find any for sale.
wasted trip ha
-
gave car max a shot since all the reviews online were good.
Had a nice chat with a woman, too bad she wasn't single and 10 years younger. About the most i have talked to someone in years
called before to check if they would even appraise it
too bad they were $15k shy on the number needed.

2018 KOH trip unknown at this date
???

well at least 3 rigs bitched out so i have to decided if taking vacation and making matt pay for fuel is worth driving my truck and trailer out to support KOH 2018 with 928 and 572 (unprepped since Oct Moab) is worth it. i have zero desire to fly out and arrange transport and LQ for the week.
-
what are the dates?
-
Bummer. Vacay time situation is no good for me or I’d seriously consider having mine sent out.
-
trailer on lake bed Feb4 am through Feb 10 11am departure
-
Considering a battle with HR to let me take the week unpaid and make it happen.
-
that has to suck not being able to take vacation when you want lol
-
I took time I didn’t really have to make UT happen. This would be pushing it.
Until about 6mo ago unpaid time off was NBD, now it has to go through HR and only gets approved for special occasions. Outsourcing company makes money on billable time and apparently we didn’t have a good year.
I can pretty much take off whenever I want if I have the time accrued... I just don’t right now.
-
can I gift you a week or two of the time I have accrued?
-
2 new steers, 4 ball joints, and 2 unit bearings on hand. needs a little coolant added since that message has bee present since the new dealer turbo install.
-
All of that are worn out or they get changed as a PM?
-
something in the front was loose at 30K, tires have steers have been wearing funny for 20K. I flipped them about 10K ago. the truck has 53K on it. i dont like to do things twice.
-
rolled over 60k
needs a bunch of regular maintenance before next use. All parts and fluids on the shelf ready for a sunny day(s). one of Nates guys is interested in looking at the truck.

unloaded down to VA friday night was painful. violent shaking from 50-62MPH. has had some goofy tire wear 40-60K miles and i had been planning to run the steers out another 10K before fixing front end looseness. rid home loaded much better but after inspection today the front steers are whooped. confirmed upper ball joint play both sides onlything loose.
changed upper balljoints in about 10 minutes a side. i think i spent more time looking for something to use as a 60mm socket and a 33m wrench than actually doing it. had to cut down a 1 3/16 socket to fit but was easy after that. steers pulled and loaded in ZJ to drop at Lewis tomorrow morning to mount new rubber.
Front end lubed
637XX miles
front brakes like still 80%
-
crazy balljoints are dead well before brakes.
-
got a cash offer on this unit minus flatbed and tuner. need to find out what its really worth i guess. could be a good time to bail before it gets into out of warranty work.
2014 Ram 4500 6 speed manual 4x4 60 CA
-
any body interested in a flat bed or tuner ::)
-
hang on to the flatbed till you decide what the next truck is? might need it. or it might sell for what it cost you and who cares.
-
probably worth 1200. too shitty to put on a new truck and too heavy to put on a chopped down box truck toter project.... believe me i have ideas....
-
same guy back again. I have been asked to take to his shop to plug in and check DPF pressures ect.
a lot of really good trucks on the market right now.

-
https://www.phoenixfriction.com/t-g56-clutch-life-what-to-expect.aspx
reading that i guess im lucky it lasted 65k
Mike what one do you have? should i go ceramic or organic? these prices dont seem bad with everything included , clutch, flywheel, hydralics upgrade
-
I just remembered this is a 4x4.
That makes it way more annoying.
Also things I just remembered: there's a club member with a lift that can lift this unit.
- lift & remove both driveshafts, break all fasteners free, pull most/all trans to block bolts, remove clutch hydraulics
- lower, remove crossmember, support trans and tcase on my bigass trans jack
- lift truck away from trans, then swap clutch bits
- installation is reverse of removal.
I've done this 2x on the ground and it didn't killed me. it's really not bad at all.
call South Bend, talk with them about your use and future power plans, and they'll probably suggest the same hybrid ceramic/organic I have with upgraded hydraulics.
My invoice from the replacement shows SDD3250-g 2005.5-2009 G56 550-650hp 1200tq
Not sure what changed in 2010, hopefully not a big deal.
-
got a service soon light last night. no other indicators.
google says CCV filter at 67,500 miles. 60$ filter in the valve cover lol
two brake taps and two 0-100% accelerator taps in 10seconds should clear the message apparently.
bah!
-
SDD3250-GK clutch ordered with some cyber Monday discount from Garofalo performance!
-
Sweet.
I drained my batteries leaving a heated seat on
-
heaviest thing i have ever lifted that i shouldn't have. holy shit.
fucking box 2 was disaster. hopefully there is no damage
morons.
-
I learned that clutches found with G56 have adjustable pressure plate. Not sure on if it can be adjusted in-vehicle, though.
-
oh boy. Hope so too. They're heavy bishes.
-
heading south for the holidays to Garofalo Performance for clutch install and parts fall off.
guess im keeping the truck 8)
-
solid. it'll be a new machine.
-
Awesome!
-
put the last jug of DEF into this thing hopefully ever yesterday.
Matt just took off with it south to drop tomorrow!
-
ah, pleased.
60hp tow tune and free. he even washed it for me ha!
-
Feels good?!?
-
feels good. havent beat on it really, letting the clutch break in do its thing. and i dont normally tow only 8500lbs so the feeling of nothing behind it with that weight isnt really comparable to anything it usually tows.
-
seems like a solid unit. put 3 tanks though it so far. found slight coolant leak right near some kind of TEE that might have gotten banged with the new intake install today.
otherwise love it. ready for first good tow this weekend.
-
got about 11.5 MPG loaded going down and about the same with just the trailer coming back. not bad for the numbers it usually runs.
confirmed with MikeyG today that its a 60hp tow tune over the standard pickup tune, not the derated cab chassis tune. that makes way more sense the way the truck feels to have picked up 300 ftlbs.
apparently my Edge tuner has an expandable input for gages and for 100$ you can get an EGT probe thats plug and play. ( i lost OBD for post turbo egt with the changes.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NL3L7G/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1UMBRA5ZTBCX8
-
My edge CTS is my pyrometer, trans temp, and turbo timer. Doubt you could sell a used edge juice for more than you could buy a CTS so you could do the expansion modules. Super easy and work well. No trouble in 4+ years.
-
confirmed with MikeyG today that its a 60hp tow tune over the standard pickup tune, not the derated cab chassis tune. that makes way more sense the way the truck feels to have picked up 300 ftlbs
Excellent 8)
I wonder how long the G56 will last.
-
ya my thoughts also, but mike has a big tune and way taller gears with GVW abuse regularly.
My trans is pretty fresh with only 30K on a dealer rebuild. and its got spendy fluid 2 quarts over. im also not a moron when i drive (proven by my dual mass stock clutch to last 65K grossing 35K or more regularly)
run it
-
Yeah. I think the much deeper ratio in axles (4.88?) help the trans to live more than anything.
-
im 4.44 gears in my 4500.
-
Deeper gears will result in long life. I don’t know trans history before my purchase but I didn’t have issues until around 70-80k with the long gears and similar loads.
Aaron didn’t tow with it, he bought with bad gears and put the 3.23s in. It worked before then with 3.92s (I think - haven’t looked)
-
and honestly, 80k isnt that bad for the abuse our trucks take in my mind if thats the weak link. R&R and 1000$? in parts nothing in the long run
-
My edge CTS is my pyrometer, trans temp, and turbo timer. Doubt you could sell a used edge juice for more than you could buy a CTS so you could do the expansion modules. Super easy and work well. No trouble in 4+ years.
i have the CTS , whatever the 800$ version in 2014 was. it was just pulling EGT from the OBD with no aftermarket sensor installed. I have to check the box there were more wires and other bs that came with it when i got it from Nick salvatores.
-
the edge juice was what was one my 01 cummins
-
thought the juice was the tuner Edge. mine is the CTS that's just the monitor out of the box, tune by Smarty Jr. on my rig.
-
hmm maybe your right, i need to check the box for some additional harness thing i recall was in the box. ill check. looks like they just sell the CTS2 now
-
egt probe installed today. found a brand new one in the tuner box when i went to look at instructions on how to install the expandable accessory one i ordered ::) guess i have a spare.
-
11mpg with cruse set at 69 with the big trailer and one car 1800miles this weekend.
pulls like a beast.
ready for 75K fluids/filters before next use.
-
10% brakes this morning driving in to fuel. haven't moved truck in 2-3 weeks.
20 pumps and hold on floor and no fluid puddles or reduction in level on resivior.
just what i need when needing to deliver tonight lol
-
if you need anything asap text me..
-
not sure where to start. i guess ill see how the drive home goes and get it on the lift.
i suspect a failed MC. everything in system is untouched since factory. almost 80k and OEM brakes are better than 60%
-
My truck available but you’d have to waste 90m getting it. I’m on campus expecting to work late and driving a vw.
-
i did a few full pull 2nd gear to lock stops in the delphi lot before i left work. Both with the trac control on and off and it seems fine now.
i may have also been fooling myself because i havent driven it in weeks, and the IH stops on a dime with 3/4ton and no weight.
at least the RAM MC looks like a 10min change minus the supposed tool to cycle abs module.
loaded and rolling as soon as the chip arrives.
packed a tool back actually :o
-
no issues to Ft Drum and back. meh
cruse set at 69 there 12.3mpg loaded
cruse set at 69 back 12.6mpg unloaded. gota love 4.44 gears :o
-
83K on rear drives. Not sure they will pass inspection on the inside duals. probably good for another 40k on a trailer.
looking at tires- crazy amazon has 245 G rated for under 200$ drives or steers delivered.
-
or i bet an hour with the tire grover would make them fine lol
225 steers were changed out from bad ball joints at 50k or so and they still look 80% or better
-
got another recall notice in the mail, this one is even more comical than your water pump might fail and engine fire.
this time- says my lug nuts may have been over tightened during service and the wheel studs may fail causing loss of wheel. No fix available yet.
glad i don't let morons work on my vehicles and im the only one thats ever pulled the front tires off the truck, rear have never been removed ha.
83K and still original rear tires and brakes.
-
"no fix available"? fuck's sake.
-
87k and first brake sweek heard about 10 miles ago.
expeced fronts, but rears were Fucked! both lower slider bolts seized.
took 6+ hours to remove rear duals as they have never been off the truck since assembly. got a 20ton hockey puck for my porto power after breaking 3/8 chain and 3/8 bolts with my 20ton bottle jack on hub and chain through wheel spokes.
iddle'd the truck in 4wd on the lift and went at all 4 rotors aggressive with air chisel and then flap wheel :o
pad slapped rear, fixed sliders and should be good for another 50K
-
:o
-
finally won on this.
used about a full bottle of anti seize for mounting of 6 tires.
found one dual at 35psi, i guess i need to check that again some time.
new rear pads feel good.
-
Noticed a noise/skip in 4x4 when i got the truck just a hair stuck this week.
I pulled the front diff cover and all looks ok, oil was brand new looking
i dont see any front drive shaft or front axle ujoint play
Transfer case fluid was about 1/2" below fill plug, and was brown / smelled burnt ATF
changed that with the only thing documented, 70$ for 2 quarts mopar Tcase fluid for 44-47 case.
im thinking the chain is worn and stretched and slips under load? does it in 4 low and 4 high idling with some ebrake applied at random times.
-
E-brake only loads rear, that doesn’t seem right.
Seems awfully early for chain stretch without being nearly empty of fluid but that’s about the only thing left. Sucks!
-
ebrake while driving on gravel
i didnt ebrake it and idle while it was on the lift.
nothing wrong with rear though in 2wd no noise.
has to be tcase related, front driveshaft, or wheel joints.
front diff appears to be some kind of sealed limited slip also, which i wasnt expecting.
-
looks like a 405$ mopar chain is only option, found listing quantity avail 10 on ebay for 300$
bah
-
Is there a pro cover or something you can investigate the chain condition through without splitting the case?
-
the drain plug lines up with the chain, i can lift the chain about an inch with a screw driver there. that was how i kinda assumed it was the chain
-
Yeah that does seem like a fair bit of deflection. Weird wear!
-
saw another eggshelled 271 on a youtube channel i follow, so i got back thinking about this today lol
more research shows pretty common for 100k ish. the NP cases seem to clunk and wear through the housing / gernade. the BW cases seem to do the "chain slip" noise so pretty sure thats where im at.
also in a few places searching found stated the rear case half cant be removed while in truck, case needs to be completely removed, joy.
not paying 611$ for a chain that GVD can have tomorrow. bah. amazon 148 for no name?! looks like torqeking has USA chain for 200$
-
installed, no suprises.
contrary to all threads on the web, could have done it in the truck like a Jeep 231... but was good i guess to have on the bench to inspect and clean up.
man that rear 2 piece shaft is HEAVY lol def a jack stand item for install
-
4x4 tested ok in the driveway and didnt egshell after 120 miles of the thruway, so sounds success!
-
Oil and filter, both fuel filters, front rotors and pads, front end lube 89K service
needs drives and a sticker. looking at a guy in Palmyra that has a few options for G rated 225s in the 205$ cash range on market place with current date codes
-
new drives mounted, sticker scheduled next friday at Jacks
-
sticker achieved
only 3 pages of recalls attached.
improper weight class warning also attached to print out lol
164$ to NY for Reg fee bah
-
chain binder yesterday took out the support to my headake rack- its rotten so bad, i think it requires some new steel or a new bed next year.
dam NY salt.
-
Ouch, that’s way too soon
I scraped at some of the rust bubbles and peeling powder coat on mine when I was designing my crane, found the lower panel on the headache rack is gone through where it was tight to the uprights. They sandwiched it instead of butt welding to the inside dimension and that explains all the scale there. No structural issues noted yet though but I’m sure the front face of those uprights are half what they used to be.

low coolant light message about 2-3 uses ago, checked today, added about 3/4 of a gallon of HOAT collant 50/50
dip stick about 1/2" high wich is about 1/4" higher than i set it when changing the oil....
ill pretend none of this matters.
plan to crack the oil drain plug in a few days after sitting to see whats in the bottom of the pan. hopefully not 3/4 gallon of coolant :o
-
yikes
-
I'm leaning towards it's fine as I also realized I checked the oil on a incline pulled up to shop, and I swear it's had a coolant leak since the dealer changed the turbo and fucked with egr fittings at 50k ish.
I wouldn't be surprised with the wight it pulls and tune it runs.
-
fun load tomorrow! picking up two escalades if the deal goes through with the RAM/extensions and equipment trailer. i guess we will see if the reason i made my flat bed extensions flat instead of tilted down like every one questions they should be, will work as i intended.
had to pull 4 bolts and move the tool box on my trailer, but looks good to 50degrees turning without issue.
pics of adventure to follow.
one drives one requires winching.
-
Oh boy
-
uneventful success.
-
on lift today
tight spot on right rear brake is my pedal pulse
looks like my pad slap and rotor scuff didnt work. will order rotors and pads
fluid film still looks great!
-
fixed broken headake rack today on driver side. pass side will probably need fixed next year. it was only like 18gage box tube.
-
ooof rear brakes today. took all day to break down and just got new rotors on.
picking up some ebrake shoes tomorrow AM because i dont want to do this again in the near future.
Also found coolant leak! 2 days on the lift left a nice base ball size puddle- part of the EGR delete kit has an oring 2" away from the turbo and its leaking. should be a simple fix once part located.
-
rear parking brakes, pads, rotors done
had to make a 3.5" socket for the goofy spindle nut these trucks have. you tighten to 70ft lb, then back off 90 degree, then tighten to 30ft lb for final. nut has like locking surface they are weird.
if it wasn't slushy id test drive, but filters for rest of maintenance should be here this week and i have floor work to do on other projects, so it gets to sit inside.
-
I think this is the oring i need
68049033AA
-
93K
fluids and filters changed
new oring in
good test drive with new brake parts
inspection appointment made.
should be set for UT haul.
reminder to check coolant level in a few miles
-
Bah. Failed for tierod at pitman arm and rear plate light out.
Annoying.
Not finding a listing anywhere for tie rod at pitman anywhere on my phone while sitting here in waiting room mom's doctors
Bah
-
hmm
looks like its not really a part thats available. weird.
entire drag link available end to end from RA in Mevotech flavor for 100$ which seems too good to be true.
MEVOTECH MS25975
maybe OEM 68185806AA?
-
morons put a HD inspection on this thing.
why would you not at least call or ask the customer when it has a normal passenger inspection on it.
charged me 21 for first fail and 21 again week after. bah.
Edge tuner is dead (used as gages only)
ordered a standalone EGT gage
completely cleaned out and rear seat pulled.
-
new egt gage installed.
HOAT coolant topped off after a few drives and changing EGR delete oring.
-
split one of those tool boxes in half, cut out and bend up some new side plates to weld in.
2 boxes mounted to ram and bed painted / boxes stripped and sprayed.
-
nice!
-
towing home in the rain the other night, abs and traction control lights popped on and cruise was taken away from me.
checked codes today finally.
had a dead or loose OBD power fues, then allowed me to read 13 stored codes of varous randomness
did have a front left wheel speed code, cleared and did not appear after an around the block test drive.
meh.
i do have 2 front unit bearings on the shelf for this thing that have new speed sensors if needed.
-
came apart easy, thats nice at least.
needs ujoints. feels good one pair of caps but feels super dry the other pair and ready to fail. nice.
-
u joint selection is crap
napa has SKF UJ822 for 130$ tomorrow each (same joint 58$ at RA)
not much on amazon. ill try nuway to see if there is a delco cross i cant seem to find.
42mm or 1.66" dia cap
103.5mm or 4.075" cross
c clips at outside caps
big girls
GMB 2100006
SKF UJ822
Precision U-Joint - 821 (oriellys)
-
no luck at nuway, their lookup for RAM4500 shows 3500 parts.
unable to cross above 3 PNs to anything, so dead end there.
-
stumped fleetpride too lol
they said bring it in, doesnt believe me its a 42mm cap ujoint, thats way too big lol
-
oddly enough summit has given me the correct spicer number
no cross at fleetpride lol
spicer 25-4354X
finally called the dealer. 200$ a piece on the shelf (non greaseable). less than 30 seconds to look up at least. been painfull morning with all others.
-
Fleet pride has went downhill in the last year. All the good guys from fleet pride went to cook brothers. Try giving them a call
-
i didnt think to call cook brothers, or gif reminded me today i should have sent Loco a txt.
paid 130$ for a single ujoint at napa, non greasable. boo.
o well. truck back together and good test drive.
ill order a ujoint for the other side, and do the other unit bearing next week sometime before Hallowheeling. give the rest of the truck another good look over. was sketch on the lift backwards, but it least its moveable and good to go now.
-
my lathe loved the front rotor, first time ever success in good finish on a rotor. one side was gauled from the bearing failure.
took about 0.020" off and nice mirror finish with power feed. chucked true and centerd no issues. drives and brakes smooth. success.
-
still waiting on Fedex for ujoint for the other side... somewhere between CA and PA it bah
-
parts came in. changed other side unit bearing and ujoint.
man is that long side shaft heavy lol
pulled rear yoke to change a weeping seal, lucky i checked PN before pulling seal. sourced wrong part.
looks like only NAPA has it for 3x cost as usual tomorrow, or amazon / RA has it for normal sane pinion seal price.
level was full so ill probably just reasemble and do the seal next time its on the lift.
Rear shaft ujoints feel good
Front end lubed.
-
wirewheeled rust blisters off my oil pan. fresh coat of rustoleum.
my brotherin law with his 2015 said when they serviced his rear main seal, his oil pan was two rusty they would not warranty labor unless the 900$ pan was changed lol
-
has popped MAF code twice in 2 weeks.
appears to pop light after not passing MAF test in 4 drive cycles
rear brakes squeaking again
bah
-
took 10 years just about, but my driver seat seam blew out last week.
looked on ebay, oem fabric replacement for 23$? seems too good to be true? says its not a cover but replacement fabric
https://www.ebay.com/itm/404485705303
-
if it's really a blown seam only still, sew it up?
though at $23 it's almost not worth changing to the heavy duty thread for this job.
-
ya not worth it to put my seam stitch skills up against 23$
actually found this, id like to replace the back also. has a nice back sweat spot that drives me nuts ha
https://www.ebay.com/itm/403850694929
-
decided to order both sides front and bottoms, for 100$ (cant imagine it matches 100% so ill change both sides if needed. driver foam pad replacement is also available for 50$ but i dont think i need that. will investigate.
also have a new MAP sensor to try to install and see if that code stops setting.
-
new map sensor installed and codes cleared.
noticed the two pin sensor thing was gone on old sensor :o
new sensor, just barley touched it and solder connection failed to same lead. hit both with solder iron quick and installed. crazy.
-
dang time flies. I remember when u got this truck, now its 10 yrs ago.
-
ya, crazy.
102K miles on this guy, just about ready for its 8th oil change. still looks good. loving the tool boxes i added, should have did that 10 years ago.
-
so some piece of the old MAP sensor is either rattling around somewhere or went out the tail pipe?
eek
at least it's mostly soft stuff.
-
thats what i assumed, but now im not sure. OEM part showed no signs of any thing soldered or broke free from 2 terminals on the sensor. new part had the sensor (air temp?) air flow internal to sensor.
maybe PN i got is for gas and diesel? and oem didnt have the other sensor? who knows
i guess ill know in 4-5 drive cycles
https://www.autozone.com/engine-management/mass-air-flow-sensor/p/continental-vdo-mass-air-flow-sensor-5wk97506z/380887_0_0?
-
changed sensor now yields a new code P262D immediately every key cycle now.
"sensor ref voltage 7 circuit low"
awesome
-
Is it just open? Hard to find spec on resistance to check if it’s close
-
i have to double check to make sure the sensor i got is correct.
i havent had time to investigate. inspection due end of month also, bah
ready for hot rod season and dailys that require nothing after built.
-
https://store.mopar.com/oem-parts/mopar-mass-airflow-sensor-68002441ac
mopar PN shows two blank pins. dont feel like 300$ mopar sensor vs 37$
might try this one that says its same PN but amazon says 07-10 cummins

this is the one i put in the truck this week, has the little sensor on the two open leads

345$ for a mopar MAF sensor, alot of the forums are saying you must get a mopar sensor only.
30$ amazon and ebay sensors that say are compatable i guess have a bad wrap.
this is annoying.
going to do some voltage checks as procedure outlines i guess.
-
I buy used OEM MAF for my builds (ebay). I never have had a bad one. knock on wood... ::)

i have never had a bad maf for an LS, just use what ever the donar had. i guess 6.7cummins is special. Even Mikey G that did the tune agrees, only mopar/contanetal work, he has them from cummins for 250$
i think im going to steal the one out of my brother in laws truck this weekend and swap it in.
-
installed 4 new OE style seat covers and they look great, 99% match to OEM
ended up switching lower seat foam side to side, so my driver seat is fresh like new, and the passenger seat that had some wear that edge is now on the inside so its also good.
next time ill have a pair of hog ring pliers on hand, i didnt realize there were ringed in pleats that i had to disconnect and connect the new fabric too in a few places.
overall, super happy for 100$. took about an hour to do all 4 after learning on the first one a bit.
-
Sounds like 100% win
I guess I’ve got 100k on my seat covers and new foam now. It still feels perfect.
-
switched back to original sensor.
cleaned OE sensor with spray electrical contact cleaner.
no change. bid on an OE ebay sensor, then going to dealer i guess.
