San you snag me some 2"x2" .25 wall square. Maybe around 10 feet

1/4" plate. Something around 48"x 24"

And some 1/8" plate. 6 square feet. Any sizes.

I'm flexible with amounts.

what is the best thing to use for a tabletop?
I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

My benchtops that used to be Ryan's table top I believe to be 7ga. 3/16" thick. Very heavy and doesn't need continuous support underneath it - won't sag over a reasonable span. I'm a big fan of it.

1/8" over 1/2" plywood is much easier to deal with and has treated smike pretty well. I think that's his workbench, give or take.

I’m constructing my bench from 4x4 and 2x4 with a 3/4" birch plywood top... I would use this just to layer for a more durable top...

I guess the real question is what’s the thinnest (lightest) I can get away with… not worried about sag

Mike yours are 3/8" from ryans stupid thick table

My bench is 7 gage or 3/16" over 3/4" ply 2x6 frame, 2x4 stingers, with 4x4 legs, 2x6 shelf / leg support.   next table id go same top but bigger legs and frame the way i treat things

Thanks for the correction. Knew I could count on you!

Arie - really depends on what you're trying to do. 1/8" would be decent to keep the birch nice from grinding and minor drops while still being almost mobile. Could probably go even thinner if you're not planning to weld or plasma cut on it, but dropping a 5lb hammer on it (or 11.5" diff case) might leave a dent on thinner steel.
