Patio
« on: August 25, 2015, 10:14:27 AM »
funny to do a build thread on something not very mechanical....

this is what I dealt with when I moved in 3 years ago...
2 boys needed more lawn and less patio..

after 3 years of shitty plow guy im left with some ankle deep traps for the ankle biters..
I decided to remove the lower level of stone and plant grass..
An afternoon of shoveling I got down a few inches for topsoil and Paul was nice enough to take the fill off my hand yesterday....  another friend is taking the medina stone for his hose...

so now that you all see what im up against any suggestions before I lay out my half baked idea

I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

Looks like you just need a piece of plywood or two to make a form around the step with some stakes to keep it all true. planning to cover the top too, or leave that stone exposed and repoint between the two pieces? Pressure wash it all first. You can borrow mine if you don't have one.

Might be a challenge to get material into the form under the overhang lip if you want the stone edge exposed - and I probably would... Might work to set the bottom edge of the form, and then tip it in. The corner would obviously be a challenge. Stucco looks to need some evening out and paint anyway with the grade change, so that edge is no big deal to keep the house 110% clean.

what can possibly go wrong?

that's exactly what I started to do before I thought I was getting in over my head...

I was thinking to rebar a couple spots in the slab underneath and pour into the form around the existing step...  Very thin gap I would be working with...

I was thinking I could get away with red bag stuff  (put material in dry and just add water)  but that sounded to easy...  If I had to mix and pour I would have to plastic off the stone and basically feed 3-4 bags? of cement into a small opening...
this would also help me deal with the corner in terms of a transition and be able to fill the vertical wall and cover with stucco....

watch out bob Vila..

I'd pull existing stones and pour the whole thing. Reset the stones and mortar in. Solid base, nice finish.
