Wrenches are working in reverse finally..
Amazing how much grime can accumulate under a car in only 500 Miles...

Trans and T-case drained..  oil looked good, not a great deal of shimmer.

Steering column removed from tube and set screw hole drilled.. column needs to stay attached to the steering shaft

T-case pan resealed.. gears look, no apparent wear from my little no oil issue..

Shifters removed and work on tunnel cover/boots has commenced..

It’s going to get interesting down there.. I'm trying to keep it clean, but the tranny is just so darn big..

also noticed that my passenger side body mount is settling a bit too much...  might need to give it 1/4" more to keep the body of the trans..

Rear Seat also finally arrived a couple weeks ago..
Mastercraft finally decided to produce and ship the rear bench, been waiting since early December.

Very dukes of hazard to get in there.. and if and when a top goes on, its prob near impossible to get back there..
Need to work on front back positioning.. too far back and it looks like a mini van without the 2nd row.. too far front and my 4.5 year old wont fit.. I think I need to get my tool box and cooler and measure accordingly.

I love the look and function.. but damn near impossible to get 2 toddler seats back there.

Got around to the shifters this past weekend...
Made an aluminum patch panel to cover some of the wonky holes around the Tcase.  Temporarily held in place by some self-tappers...  I will be using Aluminum rivets once the panel is coated in the floor covering.
New sticks, knobs, HD rubber boot... very pleased with the way it looks

Transmission is another story...  I tried to get off easy by finding “something” to make a superstructure...  Ended up with an aluminum electronic chassis off of amazon...  fit is very nice, but looks to balky and angular...  Going to have to get something custom made here... steel or aluminum doesn’t matter.  Smike?  have a sheet metal break?

I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

That was my first thought too on looking through the pictures! I about died!

whew.

As for the shifter tower, with that big boot do you really need a big tall box there? Just let the tower stick up through the flange into the boot. I'm guessing it can't be quite flat, but something that just carries up the angle of the sides of the tunnel and covers all shifter holes is probably what I'd be aiming for.

well they are stainless screws if it makes it any better.. ;)
needed some good clamping/pulling power to make the bend in the aluminum...

I made a promise to myself when I started this I wouldn't take shortcuts or use zip screws, there was just no other way to get the coverage I needed while being able to be removed..
the boot will be a perm fixture (riveted) on the panel and rivets will clean it up a bit..
Have to wait and do all the "bed liner" touchup at once, stuff doesn't have a good pot life and is a bitch to mix and spray..

as for the transmission..
I thought if I found big enough boot (8x12 to be exact) I would just do that..  didn't find anything.
Problem is I have too much transmission sticking up through the 8x12 opening
that box has a 3" height.. I prob only need 1" to clear everything, but it also doesn't need to be vertical..

I either need a custom made superstructure, or a custom made shifter boot and trim ring.

while I was typing this I called my upholstery guy...
he said all I need to do is get him a trim ring and he can make me a boot..

* new thought *

make a trim ring out of 1" bar to fit the floor with snaps on it.. boot can snap to ring .. kinda like a soft top.. hmmm

I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

i feel your pain, even this simple clean approach took many hours to line up holes, make rings ect.  probably over 4 hours of labor total, with OEM boots provided

had some good wrench time this weekend..
managed to accomplish all that was needed to get Jeep over to Smikes..  also managed to create an upgrade project.. before it get to Smikes..

500 Miles and 2 hrs. of light wheeling my rubber body mounts are compressing already.
Didn't notice until yesterday after the cross member was back in.
The body tub was slightly hitting the tops of the transmission and some of my clearances were about .25" to tight..

did some research and the body mounting rubber I used is the same PN as used for fiberglass bodies..  doing some reading I found the durometer for these mounts to be 45A-50A...
Typical poly mounts are normally 80A-90A on whatever scale is used..
Found some 90A poly rod on Amazon and it should be here tomorrow..

couple of thoughts need feeback with..
Should I cut the new poly bushing a bit taller to accommodate some settling?
or.. since my sliders will be tied into the cage through the floor, should get some more support and rigidity?

the body mount that was the most compressed was the passenger by the firewall..  (no surprise there)  it is however very close in relation to where the cage floor plate is..  The rear mounts, comparatively, were just settling in..

Side note...
picked up some machined dash knobs.. now they all match and bye bye nasty plastic ones..

90 sounds a lot stiffer and i would think the same height would be fine.  That aluminum tub is probably much stiffer than a tin or glass tub against that frame that's made to flex a bit.

Id like to have this thing in mid week if possible, so i can get any metal i need Thursday.  I have Friday and Saturday full shop days available to work on it.   If not let me know and ill line something else up.

No problem at all...
poly should be here tomorrow..
Seats are stripped and everything else all buttoned up..  was ready to roll when I saw the contact..

I was thinking the same thing about the tub.. there is no give anywhere on this thing..

Amazon fail on not having stuff here today...
1 day shipping and got notice this AM that stuff didn't ship

would anybody locally have this kind of stuff?
