Engine compartment all tidied up..
not saying its final, but its perfect for now.
AC system not wired (Evap and Comp.) to prevent damage before filling the system.. I have kids :o
I think the coolant bottle and washer bottle need another couple bolts.. but they're on
Powder coat came back..
need to do hood latch (inner) and hood prop rod..
correct PS pulley swapped on.. have an extra to add to the hoard.. at least when I was looking that was a S.O.B to find..
Alignment, sticker, and possibly an AC fill Friday...

Soft top arrived last week.. Started putting the rather chintzy thing together...
going to be coating the brackets in one way or another..  much more rickety than a Supertop...
Top confirmed headroom measurements as being spot on...
width of the cage can be increased and back will need to be adjusted down a couple inches..
Im assuming the hard top offers more headroom in the back that the soft top.
I've come to the conclusion that my biggest mistake thus far has been doing the cage without both tops..
lesson learned I guess...  its been my first non factory or bolt in unit...

I guess well figure out next week what we need to do here to make this work and match the rest of the truck  :-\

I never wanted a red car.. always thought they were tacky and common...
I now have 4 very not common cars and they are all red.. :o

send over a magic cage widener and adjuster with that   :o
i would live with the cage or start over.  enormous amount a work to "fix" it.

another mistake- all cage work and heavy metal fabrication should be done before any paint or finish instal work.  its just too destructive / risky

like I said big mistake..
you tell me what I should do at this point and where to sign....

I haven't gone this far to shrug shoulders....

what im thinking.. and tell me to piss off or I'm wrong if applicable..

option 1:  start fresh, be at your beck and call.. do it right the second time around...
option 2:  hack and burn
option 3:  tweak if tweak able...

I dunno.. so upset over this... but somebody told me its just metal...

what I was thinking:

new rear section either the purple or yellow style.. save rear hoop for another project.. (orange CJ5 or ? ? ? )
raise the roof.. seems I might have more headroom that thought..  can a couple inches at the foot plate be added?
might be enough to live with..  I am strapped in/down

option 1 really should be  ...
you tell me to shut the fuck up.. I've spent enough and a $500 DIY cage isn't going to cut it..
let me do what I do and open the checkbook..

Full custom cage not in the cards this month (or next) with racing commitments.

Its probably worth a meet up and talk though some ideas to see what we can do.  it is only metal, but being full welded not sure its practical to try and modify.

i had Eds jeep for almost 6 weeks and that was some of the nicest cage work i have done along with Tonys TJ.  We had 3 sets of seats in and out of Eds 5 before it was right.

Pull the cage and run the hard top for the summer- worry about it after its scratched up a little and you might consider wheeling it :)

hard top would need just as much time and energy...
softop wasn't cheap and more practical if towed or driving in spring/summer
I will take this thing out if its safe... only think that has stopped me from actually driving it thus far...

so much hinges off the cage... seats, belts, etc...

advantage I have over others is framework is there... seats fit and work well..  its just the damn noggin knocker...
I don't know much, but I think tweaking the rear is possible if I cut losses..

WTF do I know...

im sure mark will tell me to burn it.

it just clicked looking at the pics of the rear soft top line, i didnt under stand it at first.

cut and grind all roof "X" bars, side bars, and handles out.

cut rear hoop from body plates, tip forward / lower to fit in soft top

rerun driver head bang bars further out with a bump out in them.

re x roof and rear side bars to match new front side bar lines

leave seat mounts, a pillar, and b pillar as is.

that would be my plan to keep it

rear seats purchased today..

narrowest car seats I can find that still satisfy my safety requirements...
17" wide x 2 for 36" between the fenders !!
