MLC Ball joints were in there like it was they job. most suborn set i have ever done to date- i got mad enough and finally made a tool that i have been thinking about every time i do them.
2 hours of frustration beating and heating things like normal ball joint press with no progress
10 minutes of fabrication
5 minutes to remove 4 ball joints.
5 minutes to install 4 ball joints.

That's the bees knees!!

HD

Hmmm... Maybe the other guys did see the problems with MLC, but decided they didn't want to manufacture a solution. I'm taking it for granted that they don't need any of my $$ which means that unless I can provide all the TLC that MLC needs, she'll be coming to see M4.
-
Do you rent tools? ;D
-
slightly more HD than a glorified C clamp!
-
this thing is sweet. ya it can be rented. i made it big enough for matts 12ton bottle jack, which i will be buying my own. My 4ton was not enough ass.
-
that's scary.
-
we had a small engineering discussion on the tensile strength of 3/8"x1.5" mild steel. decided "it would be fine" for 6 ton on each side. Top and bottom is 2x2 .250 wall as short as possible for bottle base.
-
no go with 4ton holy shit!
-
i was squinting even with the 12 on the first one haha
-
quick math we are good for about 30 tons on this unit.
noice.
-
Wait. You're saying that a 4t jack didn't get the bjoints out?
-
keep squinting....
I'm tempted to do some maths on psi, but I can't really see a point in shear psi and the vertical pressure is just a known quantity somewhere between 8000 and 24000#. that's not so interesting...
that's some crazy shear resistant rust.

I would get a extended handle model

found it!

I built this one real quick just to get the job done.
The HF pos bent on the first ball joint. >:(
I have a sketch of how I will build the "good" one.
Basically telescoping sides. 1.5" X .25 wall inside 2" X .25 wall outer with through holes for bolts to set the over all length.
2.5" X 2" I beam top and bottom. captured top to hold the jack in place while you load the cups on the ball joint. EZ :)
-
and yes even 6 ton jack is too small. I stalled mine. :o
I think a 12 ton with a screw top would be perfect. Maybe even air/hydraulic...
"stop it brain... dont make me drink more beer"

Duramax got some love!

Yup. New front Calipers/Rotors/Pads/Lower&Upper Ball Joints.
