Title: 571wreck wheel status
Post by: M4wdFab on August 22, 2012, 11:57:19 AM
man this was painful, almost off the lift haha

swapped on a spare CO, changed the springs and such into the back,

disconnected both rear calipers and bled out the master for front function.  washed and cleaned, front skid wreck removed, need to start over on that one.

headlights
rear bushings
some wireing issues

how are my shocks coming along?

if they are whooped ill just take two new ones.

something is broke in my driver rear, its just slamming-  its the gif shaft one and the lower seal is stripped out of the body, looks like oil is all gone too.

Post by: Ryan on October 08, 2012, 09:34:40 AM
Got my shipment in on Friday, I will have them ready this week. They are whooped, but I can fix them up. Well, except for the dual rate stops, those are gone and the threads are whooped, at least on the one. I did not closely inspect the other.

i try to push 2x as hard wreck wheeling than racing.  its the only way to finish races and learn your level.

The car has gotten about 2 days of prep in the last 6 wreck trips, and just keeps taking it.

no ambition to wrap up.

debating to pull the 14 to the bench and add 1/2" to bottom thats GONE
Title: 571wreck wheel status
Post by: mr.mindless on January 12, 2013, 07:56:04 AM
Probably not a bad idea to plate a thin diff. Would suck to crack it, just as much as it'd suck to crack the front. Also just as annoying to fix :)
Title: Re: 571wreck wheel status
Post by: M4wdFab on January 12, 2013, 08:51:24 AM
6 bolts and and crack a break line is all it takes right now.

i think it will get done.

im not worried about it cracking, just its wore 1/2 way though the bottom bolt threads.

Post by: M4wdFab on January 14, 2013, 11:25:59 PM
man, needs a 4th night. it is killing me

front shafts ujoints changed, spares prepped for both sides
front and rear 4.10 gear setups done
14 bolt pulled and plated and re installed
Front end assembled 100%

just need drive shafts put back in, fluids put in diffs, a brake line hooked up and bled, tins, under hood fluids, and tools packed.

maybe a wash or dirt scrap

You have my attention. But im still in the fence.
I can drop an amc 360 in , bolt it to my tf999, and basically be up and running with only a custom exhaust being a major change. That and possible swapping back to gasoline.
Im looking at both Holley and FAST EFI systems for Wide band plug and play EFI

Title: Re: 571wreck wheel status
Post by: JEEPWERX on February 11, 2013, 02:21:01 PM
Its never gonna be a racer... so why not?
Can't justify redesigning the Jeep, let alone the cooling, drive train mounts, drive shafts and new t case just to have chevy parts in a CJ7 based wheeler.

She goes and is fairly capable as is.
The original 1985 4.2 is just getting a little more tired.

Chevy drivetrain - new tube chassis.

got new GPS mounted for this weekend.  Put it on drivers side so i can use it this weekend, not planning to have a passenger.

Cut out the double knot F stick put in my winch cable at Jeffs

Fixed an internal blown fuse that made my radio not work

dried out and cleaned drivers seat.

Hog needs a wash and tool prep.  Also want to swap radiator fan polarity, and may swap to LOW speed- maybe even make it selectable some how.

After 50 miles of sustained go fast, front shocks luke warm, rear shock so hot I couldnt touch the bodies or resiviors.  Puzzled on that one.   Wondering if nitrogen pressure needs to be checked more often, or rear air bumps are needed.

Brakes and steering still shitty

both o2 sensors smashed off

driver motor mount 80% material failure around welds.

skid vacated (not recovered from course)

rear pass shock needs looking at, ridding dirty

trans took 2.5 quarts after powerwashing to make truck move
motor took a quart of oil

2hours of power wash and she is ready for some lift time / wreck wheeling.

Fawk me.

I can see what Balduci brothers build millers sub out of 188 wall chromolly sleved over solid aluminum.  redoncuoulus.  meh

motor mount area cut out and replaced, masive steel and 3/8"s gussets inplace on drivers side.

I have no ideas on why the brakes are shitty. That sucks. My only thought is that it may be related to actually having flow to the rear. The crushed SS line may have been acting like a residual valve?

speaking of the crushed SS line- that got replaced with a rubber line.   i was thinking this system has 8 rubber flex lines.... maybe too much for the displacement of the MC?

thats what it feels light to me- just not enough stroke to make pressure.

There is no residual valve?

Also just thought of something, i wonder if that line lock is F'd up.  it hasent worked in a while.  I think thats going to get take out also.

hood there doesn't seem important ;D

I don't think those symptoms could result from a fubar line lock but it really isn't doing much these days so fuckit

and my same answer-  proportioning valves are a myth in a 4wd locked truck.

want brakes and all the brakes i can get from any corner.  never run proportioning valves.

I could see your point if you where running all the same caliper on all four corners but with a proportioning valve could you use that to "set or plant" the front end in a corner better since they are 70 front / 30 back bias?

front and back are locked together. No differentiation aside from driveline slop of well less than half a tire rotation.
Title: Re: 571wreck wheel status
Post by: M4wdFab on July 01, 2013, 04:07:26 PM
its more like 5% of a tire rotation.  watching all 4 tires lock in a controlled slimmy creek slide shows this :)

new MC in.  id say 3x improvement in brakes.  i cant push hard enough on the petal.  i like it.  needs a booster next if more is wanted.

awesome.

DE ram is sweet.  its odly smooth and tight like something is wrong lol   4 wheel locked and pulling wheels with sticky tires on pavement and it feels tight and smooth.

if we wreck saturday it will be hard and my fault.

Karl knack informed me the reason that my KRTs seem to chunk down to cords is because all red label BFG tires are recaps.  you can see on all my tires where the mold meets the carcus.    after 8 full throttle assults on devils den prerunning, i have about a 10" section pealed off on one.

both rear CO's showed no dampening and blown out after prerunning.  all shocks so hot you could not touch.  we changed the worse one with my spare friday night, along with swaping out the tire.

race day cost us the other side in the rear CO from slaming up travel.  and the tranny wont hold fluid, killed it self.  brown toast, she is done.

brakes and steering were awesome.  rest of the car was shit from mile one.  needs a suspention upgrade and limit straps.  the trans needs to be pulled and the trans mount / Tcase mounts need to be allinged / repaired to help life of tail seals.

fuck this car.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before but some fault may lie in the single ujoint configuration. That counts on absolutely perfect alignment for all seals and bearings to live long happy lives.

I only mention since both new cars are getting the same layout.

its the trans mount that is f'd up, which comes from failing motor mounts.  im sure everything is out of wack and the seals and inputs/outputs are beat to shit.

needs a full floor tear out while motor / trans is out

727 is in a million things (roughly 1968?-1988 smallblock anything, from there to 96 is A518 same case w OD tail housing. 84 ram charger 360 is a guaranteed good lookup) and I probably have a filter in the shelf - but wtf are you looking at mopar tranny stuff for?

B&M deep pan uses a mopar filter.  The filters changed over the years when the eliminsted drain plugs after justifying longef fluid changes.  I figured it out and got one close enough.  What a cluster at the shit box counter.

Slight panic when fluid was dumping out of new trans.  A phone call later i was able to swap out a rolled oring behind a snapring with out pulling trans.  I think i would have rather set it on fire.
