this baby is a sweet machine
-
its ass is int he air...
-
this thing is becoming a highly used shop tool!
-
on the road?
would you actually tow locally with it?
-
lol not really, and i dont have a towing endorsement on my license.
cost me about 300$ to get it on the road, and im not sure id trust the brakes, tires, or anything above parking lot plow duty. its an $1100 pile that should push snow and boom lift shit just fine!
radio, CB, and full lights, winch, everything works, a true machine!
-
hardline to passenger front flex line replaced tonight, brakes bled. Boom cable oiled, grease fittings pumped with grease everywhere... works much better...

All this broken down in laymans terms= the ma fawkin bees knees
-
this hog did work today! and lifted a flat bed onto a superduty!
-
Plowasaurus Wrex is a BEAST.
-
that is the gayest longest name thats already taken anyway
-
p.wrex is not long.
-
After beeper mike is officialy banned from making any name
-
Hahahahahahahahahahahah
-
plus one
-
she's a sweet beeper. you're just jealous.
-
i think shit box would have been a better name
-
only if your XJ is "shittier box" :-P
-
man this thing let me down in a no start condition. let her warm up tonight to plow out the lot before i headed in, got 3/4 done and it died. figured it was out of gas, put 5 gallons in it and fired right up. Died again and couldnt get the filter to fill back up. got it running on starting fluid for 30 seconds or so then seemed good, now wont fire at all, filter is full and accel pump sprays fuel, no run on starter fluid either! damit.
sits as landed.
-
D'oh
-
tried it this morning cause i left my badge in the dodge over at the shop and it cranked right up with a little kicking. pushed snow with it for 15 minutes no issues and parked it
lol
-
what a pile
-
this baby is a dream machine!!!!
-
that is the gayest longest name thats already taken anyway
Already taken?
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the shop shovel will LIVE to plow another day!
-
the sweet mirrors are so nice for backing up plowing i dont even turn my head i just ride the tire for the bank. the yellow gumball light says i mean business!
-
the sweet mirrors are so nice for backing up i dont even turn my head i just knock them off on fence posts. the stalling and not restarting in the middle I the lot says i mean business!
fify hahaha
-
i cannot believe you have no faith after you have first hand experienced the awesomness of the lifting power of the Ford. after tom and i lubed up the cables its unstopable. nick and chadly have had the full experience!
-
oh I have deep faith.
it's been shaken with the reports of self-fixing non-restart stalling though! No doubt she's a sweet machine. Just incredibly rough around the edges, eating into the center just a little. Especially under the seats.
-

kicked out!
-
i got about 10 minutes into plowing again and she kicked out again.
this time since it was day light i was a little smarter. its running out of fuel. i noticed this time the filter is clogged with shit, i changed. pumps like mad when unhooked from carb and cranking, but no fuel when hooked to carb. i guess shit is clogged in the jets or something. it will come off and get cleaned and hopefully fix the problem.
-
this thing is so fawkin sweet that I get a chubby just reading updates on it!!!
-
Me too Nick!!
Sounds a little like my sweet Eagle!
-
I wouldn't go that far
-
Now now don't be a hater
-
this hog is a pos today.
i do not understand why the fuel filter will not fill up with fuel. i dissasembled the whole carb and didnt find anything but shinny new parts. everything was clear and in working order. pumps fuel like mad while cranking and fuel line unhooked, dribbles through filter to carb when connected to carb.
sorta kinda runs with the choke 75% closed.
hummmph
-
yeeees! win
-
,then it went twang later that night but all was fixed by the light of cell phones.
-
ruh roh
-
i blame reaction time of walker evans. i cinched up the cable in park a wee to tight and the hook popped out of the clamps.
-
Good thing the clamps weren't as tight as they really should be then?
-
lifted a flatbed no issues as is lol
-
It's a beast
-
tcase sure hates to be shifted in 4x4 with out slippery snow. i think its time to unlock the front hubs soon for this nice 70's weather coming this weekend!
-
mike and i determined that 4th gear high idle is just a wee bit too many Rs for the old PTO chain ahaha
she still did work, and actually got some oil in the winch now!
-
adjust the driveshaft to tension, and she'll be golden.
-
this thing gets negative maintenance time lol
oil filter and check is probably higher on the list since i bought it
-
that's repairs status, not maintenance. Could break the chain if it jumps like that....
-
put this old girl to work this morning!
flying colors for mechanical performance. chalking past kicking out issues to user error. Key synchronization of 3 footing, choke, gas, brake, clutch, shift and plow to maintain usable RPM.
need to get the wipers and globe light back working though! did the shop and my driveway while it was empty in about 30 min.
-
I beeped beeped as I took the kid to the sitter almost didn't make it up her driveway
-
The shovel was a smoking
-
Sounds like a challenge requiring full attention!
-
she kicked a little and had some black and blue smoke on start up until it cleaned out- i forgot about that lol
-
They should make a episode on Top Gear with this hawg!! That is how sweet it is
-
you know it!
-
It would be like the episode with the Toyota except it would not last quite as long. Isn't it only rear brakes
-
its 4x4, all wheels brake!
-
moved cars and cleaned up more today. stupid people again in my driveway, so didnt get to clean that up.
-
this hog is down for the count! killed the battery cranking, no fuel, and fuel filter packed with shat.
got fuel
blasted shit out of fuel fiter
battery on charge
will try again tomorrow im sure it will be fine!
-
They should make a episode on Top Gear with this hawg!! That is how sweet it is
!!
-
this thing is unstopable
just needed some gas dumped in the carb, i dont thing the fuel pump pumps enough while its cranking. i should really put the 13$ fuel pump in one of this days that i have on the shelf for 2 years
had like another 5" this morning. did the shop and the house yesssss
-
my sweet light and wipers fixed them self- heat works too.
gota get the radio back next. its been a while since that last fixed its self.
-
i love this truck....
can i get some snow pics... ill trade for sun ;)
-
this mornings work
-
i finally shoveled off my deck, id say i had a good 18"
-
man this old girl could use this!
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pts/3529818450.html
-
did work after a new fuel filter and a time out 1/2 way though!
-
well, failed with a marine boat tank.. pickup tube must be stuck or something dumb. tank strapped to bumper and hose put in tank.
she kicked and spat and faught for a while. even tried to pull losing a wire to the coil!
we exceeded the duty of the winch trying to lift the XJ shell on to the wedge. i guess it has a slipper clutch in it to keep you from breaking shat.
an optima, a vice grip, a fuel filter, gas tank, and some lube we were back in service picking things up and putting things down.
-
I would be surprised if it had a clutch in the winch and if it did load would be way higher than the xj shell on a wrecker boom winch. Likely the free spool/not assembly contraption is not locked in fully or is extremely worn. I have thought I was locked in fully when I wasn't even on new trucks. When I couldn't get a civic stuck in park moved I knew something was wrong
-
i dont know something was clearly slipping but not breaking i did not want to stick my head near it
-
i did not want to stick my head near it
sounds wise!
-
Winch cable?
http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/3729510147.html
-
haha cool.
i think my cable is good for now. thanks
-
plowed last 3 times with 5% clutch. exhaust blew apart a while back. got a wicked 4hour head ache last time.
Got mad enough and put this guy on the lift carefully. extended clutch linkage rod and actually fixed clutch issues. re welded up exhaust after finding a flex exhaust that failed. mint
100% duty and much nicer to plow with.
-
who wants a sweet new shop shovel!
http://www.rc4x4.org/rcforum/index.php/topic,21382.msg131479.html#new
-
SMIKE!!!!

-
that radiator! hahahah
-
sweet in cab heat!
-
Omf
If that wasn't such a pile I'd be all over that.
I'm a suckered for FC's
-
Holy fuck. 2500?!
Tapatalk (http://tapatalk.com/m?id=1)ing in traffic
-
That's a sweet machine
-
blew brakes out
runs like a champ
weak left tilt on plow but still functional
-
My 77 is ready for the pull-off this summer. She plowed like a tank. The new locker in the front makes it unstoppable. I lost brakes a year ago that what the plow is for.
-
the cab on mine keeps moving forward and im loosing length in the clutch linkage. need a big tree to hit going backwards a few times every once in a while.
-
mowzer needs more weight and more go and more plow angle control for shit like this. I shoulda put the blower on. did I say that already?
-
put a plow on dakota!
i need a 9' blade with wings. this 7.5' crap is not cutting it.
-
pull off needs to be hooked cab to cab!
-
yotas getting a plow next winter, walk behind is not cutting it!
-
I have the 7.5' for the 2500 and 9' for the 1-ton big difference. My cab just rocks on the frame so you feel it in the clutch linkage. Mike and Eric I have a 7' plow from the scout, manual turn, setup for winch raise/lower with H-frame for sale. New paint no rust could fit on Toyota also.
-
Mule would be a plowbeast!
Dakota doesn't exactly have the trans for it, remember :D
-
yotas getting a plow next winter, walk behind is not cutting it!
Your driveway is 22'x20' You cant shovel that? Talk about going soft....
-
I can, I dont want too, I got shit to do!
-
I need a 6 footer to fit in the garage unfortunately
-
Plasma cutter will make it 6'
-
more work
-
got shit to do! lol
-
Put the kid to work!! Wasn't that the reason for having him for cheap child labor
-
yo quit clogging up my sweet machine build thread!
-
We should have a Plow truck challenge!
-
Pink slips and helmets. My field memorial day
-
good thing you have the dozer this time for recovery
-
If we flatten all three w/ dozer we can stack them all on one trailer for scrap at the end of the event.
-
It would be a noble end to the Red Rocket... at least it has brakes!
-
no fuel injectors allowed! haha
-
brakes are only used when you cannot believe that you are being pulled backwards by a 4 decade old chevy
-
your hawg looks pretty light i dont know.
Fords have the advantage of being big dumb heavy dead weights most of their life so i might have a few lbs on you
-
Did you actually count "Big Jeff" when you did your math?
-
Count me in.
The Red Rocket is ready.
Plows attached for this event?
-
Fuel injection isn't a benefit when only 5 or 6 cyl are firing and 0 oil pressure.
-
picked up a YJ carcass last night and put it on the nose of the wedge! boom up!
-
yearly maintenance night tonight.
got new winch cable, new boom cable.
brakes put back in service with at least one corner having hydraulic pressure.
new adjustable clutch linkage put in
random wires removed from rear lights
rear boom pin torched out and replaced with something actually usable
5 gals of fuel filled
steering pump fluid topped of with stop leak!
ready to push snow and pick up things for the next year.
-
was so much less stress using this thing with brakes, a clutch, and new cables. she got some fresh paint when i was done. ready for snow!
-
oooof this thing kicked out on full over heat pissed off spraying coolant from the engine. had to give it a break to continue. driverwindow pane fell out on me!
still completed the job at hand!
-
That was the highest potential energy a complete Dana 60 has seen in the M4 lot!
-
this thing let me down tonight.
no fuel, looks like the marine under hood tank has shit the bed. bah!
-
new method of two cherry pickers to lift one end of a scrap shell up and back under ram, then lift other end up, roll back on tires if rear axle still present or drag / strap last 3' forward
-
put a few hours of work into this unit this afternoon.
new battery
new battery terminals/ cable ends
GMC fuel tank and pump assembly modified. installed, plumbed, wired.
electric circuit for pump and front LED white / amber front bar
plow pump filled, ram seals tightened
100% minus weak brake
-
tow belts mounted up, thing does work and is usful still dragging around things
-
bout ready to take the plazma to the inner door skin of this guy. glass fell again. 3rd time again.
otherwise many useful periods of operation since fuel system update!
-
saw it was down when I grabbed my trailer. no good.
-
window fixed
new filler neck replaced.
-
blew the reverse shifter fork apart in this unit. Fuck
didnt make it over to my drive way before it happened. no good. lots of snow. bah
looking for a ford T18 top end (3 fork version 79 and newer T18, cast iron top not alum (NP435))
-
nothing I would have here..
-
fork pulled this afternoon and given to the tig surgen, hoping to grab tonight. The driveway situation is terrible with morons
as a back up i found a company in Florida that had the fork and pad in stock for 34$ shipped. sadly any kind of expedited shipping was 100$ or so more/ bah

I think you have time to get that $34 one from florida now :)
-
I have a welded fork back in hand now ill thow in this afternoon if i can cob up a fork pad from 231 parts or try to dig the original out from the bottom of trans sump
-
tried to cob a 231 pad onto the welded fork would not work. ran it with no pad, works fine. back in business
new fork and pad shipped today so ill swap it out next week or whenever it decides to fail again.
adjusted the clutch linkage which so no more grinding which is probably what caused the failure in the first place.
back to a snow pushing machine!
-
this thing has been working hard this week- picking van cabs up and pushing truck chassis's around.
working well. May need a in cab carb shot system installed soon for cold starts
-
this thing let me down tonight.
cranked with fuel dumped in carb and fired up. looked like a fire work show under hood near battery cables and starter solenoid so i keyed off after 20 seconds of running. then dead.
no key tocrank, jumped starter solenoid for crank but no ignition power. bah. if its more than wires or fuses its getting the torch. sick of non fuel injection no heat pos. might need to build a shop truck.
-
wonder if it just killed the battery or the solenoid with a dead short?
-
it cranks fine with a crescent wrench handle against the starter solenoid, but no fire with key on, so i suspect what ever blew killed the feed to the key which feeds sig to the starter solenoid and the coil.
no crank signal and no coil power.
was cold and dark so it got the hood shut. have about 5 heavy things needing moving, but i guess i should have pulled it out of hypernation before we see 20s earlier
-
Sounds right and likely.

had a half hour of day light yesterday and found the charred wires / sparky area. looks like it was just a wadded up junction of alternator feed, dash feed, and other power feeds that had failed. Fixed and now its back cranking but no fire.
verified key on power to coil
must have fried distributor or duraspark module.
looks like there are some tests but they require pulling the distributor.
30$ for a new module (wiring looks suspect everywhere)
48$ for an Hei one wire distributor to bi pass it all.......
need to identify motor if its a small block or big block, and what displacement i guess.
-
If I remember correctly it's Ford 400m small block.
-
thats what i was told, but who knows
http://www.fordification.com/tech/engineID-V8.htm
i hate fords
-
confirmed its a 400 as best i can, ordered a 41$ HEI distributor for it lol
-
I have a love hate relationship with durasparks
-
i eliminated the need to test a relationship. there was two of them already screwed to the fender so im thinking its a common theeme.
air, fuel, HEI should make her go. ill hook the HEI to the toggle i have for the amber strobe, light bar, and GM fuel pump circuit i ran with good wire and a maxi 50 amp.
-
slowest shipping ever
fedex from CA should not take +11 days
-
its coming from china..
-
no it came from CA
i always use US sellers when possible, inless its something i dont care about time or its worth the price/risk
-
Thats what real ground shipping loos like right there. Oi
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Fed ex is the worst. Somehow ruffstuff orders get here in 3 days ,anything else from CA takes at least a week. I ordered a gift for a friend in tx ,fed ex picked it up in Ohio gave it to a third party, got it to tx, then handed it to usps, so for 3 of the 7 days it sat in limbo
-
And that's "smartpost" in action. Never use smartpost.
-
4-5 hrs into this unit saturday
new distributor installed, fired for 30 seconds first try then nothing.
found bad igition power
found a fuel tank filled with 1/2 water
emptied tank, flushed lines, sucked sludge out of carb bowl.
back to running
now the feaking plow pump doesnt work. i hear a solenoid click but no pump in any direction. bah.
sick of this thing.
-
checked electric on plow good, wires get hot so its direct shorting.
took pump motor off and apart. cleaned and found nothing broken.
reassembled and no change.
bah.
-
i guess its this thing 68$ shipped. Might look at other options or check J&J saturday there are always a few plow pump setups

Good source. Bought Cummins starter and maybe winch motor both from DB.

We stock plow parts. Lmk what your thinking before you order... I’m in the offixe all day
-
ill have to check next time i get day light.
-
so march?
-
today my early day out, ill look at it this afternoon.
if i cant match a number it will get a jeep starter motor from the pile thrown on it
-
JJ has 2 plow pump assemblies he was just about to scrap ill nab and see if they swap motors!
-
ended up being the actual gear to gear oil pump in the hydro unit was seized stalling motor. swapped the oil pump from a lift assembly JJ gave me all good.
used for 30minutes plus to move axles and motors around the shop lot for winter clean up! she is good to go for another plow season!
-
calling it on this thing, last winter for it. getting cut up in 2018
dont have the tolerance to change wires, plugs, heavy gage wire, and starter motor, set timing correctly, and add a block/oil heater.
just doesnt like the cold any more.
-
Sure it’s not just timing off from the ignition change? I don’t know why I’m asking. I’m sure you’re sure.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
im not sure on the timing, it has no marks, and where it runs plus or minus 20 degrees there is no change in operation
the plugs look horible and it may not even be running on 8 when it runs, they look like they dont want to come out, havent tried.
-
No marks and plugs that don’t want to come out sounds like no fun when it doesn’t fit in the shop to work on warm.

-
id rather put chains and the CJ7 on the back of the 49 with a plow after adding some heat and defrost to it at this point

nice! make money on it?
-
Not quite yet. I sold the truck for $600, which considering there's no bed or front axle, I don't think that's too bad. I also sold the $10 autozone mirrors for $50. I still have the wrecker body, plow, and beacon to get rid of. I was originally excited to try and make money, but it's a pain when my shop is 40 mins from my apartment, so I'll be happy if I can break even.
