Title: racing siren talks
Post by: M4wdFab on May 01, 2016, 10:13:11 PM
evident this race both matt and I need to step up our horn game

i doubt that all components of this are IP67 rated as the pictures show.  wonder how it would hold up just using the push button features

Just get one that is actually sealed.

100w is probably enough. The first non-sealed unit I got was 200w and was almost painfully loud. It seriously felt funny.

the first link you provided, thats just the amp? you need to buy a 100W or two 58W speakers separate?  add or description not clear.

correct, it's just the amplifier. The second link (NLA I guess) is the 100w speaker I bought.
One of us has a 100w speaker from Mark. You're welcome to it. I'll set it aside if I come across it in the Ranger tonight.

fixed above. I guess I missed a 'copy' last night. like I said, it's showing NLA. not sure if they are all created equal.

right now, I don't have anything hooked up except the horn function to one of the sealed push buttons.
I have dreams of PA function wired to intercom for announcing car number at mud race checkpoints, and of piping radio audio to it when running pit support. Just need to wire it up. Low priority but as of now it's a GREAT horn :)

We need something louder as well. We couldn't hear our own horn with visors open during the race.
Space is a huge concern in the LJ.

tried my box with matts siren.  either its bad, or i am no good and bench wiring.  seems simple 3 or 4 wire hook up. still now work.

I dont remember anything that would require tips tricks or pointers. lots of wires but all color coded and simple...

gave power to orange, ground to black, hooked up the two speaker wires to the greens (tried both directions)  no output with any if the inputs given +12

wondering if something has to be grounded or powered for an interlock of some sort.  wasn't clear from the wire schematic was ignition in, program in, mode select means or has authority over.

All I'm currently using is horn. I think it gets +12 to a single trigger wire?

ya thats how its spelled out.    power, ground, speeker wires, horn in.  seemed simple enough.  doesnt work.

bench test of matts amp last night yielded same results.  no sound.

so either everything we have is bad or everything we have is good and not hooked up right.

maybe speaker was grounding to table.  or park kill grounding to table.  also need to double check ignition input was getting 12V

ordered another kit with a cheap amp box but 11ohm good speaker that should work.

speaker matt linked to that we both bought is 8ohm

I hope that's the issue. Wish I knew.

some how I decided i didnt like the power spikes on the front of the charger supply, so I tried it with a car battery on the bench instead of using my battery charger as a 12v source.  works fine off a battery.  must be something with the dirty power coming from an AC to DC supply or a frequency thing beyond my understanding or care.

both 8ohm and 11 ohm speakers work.  Wired and installed my car with the speaker from Mark.  Have 3ohm 25 watt resistor to put in series to use 11ohm speakers for Matt, or my new speaker kit with 11ohm says it will be here from Amazon tomorrow by 8pm

first horn pop on the bench my ears still hurt now.  rest of testing done with ear muffs of course.

bitch is loud
