newly procured project.
determined power train is a bit loose for a buggy motor. rolls coal great though!
07' van / chassis dual rear wheel, 589K miles on a DBW 6.0, 4l80e
we pulled the box for a shed, and now it sits.
looking for a 1930's-60's complete cab with title
and will flatbed it.
plan to use van floor and firewall, mate it to the doner cab. source seats and interior mismatch it.

MV-353 does not exist on DMV site. lame. printed out a MV-51

it looks like MV-353 is issued by the DMV to the current owner only. My reading shows MV-51 is what you need.
I always take a DTF-802, which you have to fill out anyway, and get a seller signature right on it with sale price.

sweet unit aquired, 52 Chevy 4400 hydro flat dump. has a lot of character! hood and driver door seized. steers and rolls!

van was dead, battery on charge.
pulled 2 garbage cans full of mouse house out of interior of 4400
lower bench seat tossed, driver door freed up.
cant get hood to open, dont see a vin tag with flash light. soaked with oil but probably gona get the plasma cutter next attempt

Not all of the two piece rims are death... Just a particular version (RH-5). Those actually look like 3 piece wheels.

looks like on the lock ring type wheels, the bead seat actually presses everything together. On that 2 piece, it just needs to be in its happy place.

that's just a the rim profile - all are shown in profile as "demountable" wheels. wheel could also have a center attached to the inner shell. not shown but it would be towards the bottom of the pic (obv)

van stripped to a chassis, cab and scrap loaded on RAM
52 pushed into the shop.
rear cab mount shackels in tact and functional, should bolt right to new frame. center fire wall mounts pretty rough and fighting to come loose. front clip mount free after two snapped bolts. torched some of the hood hinge levers and got the hood open, gutted electrical.
should be good to lift off next time in the shop after disconnecting steering.

Tap measure says the 52 frame is 36" wide OD. the Van frame is 36" ID. after spending some time under the 52 cutting mounts, i dont see anything that that will be an issue.
Track width the front duals should be flush or exposed by .5"

What's your plan with wheels/tires? Stock van tires seem like they'll look tiny

got the 52 cab popped off and hung for install.
looks good, need to pull some dip sticks and radiator might be interesting, but fire wall and wheel well looks good.

just pushed the 52 rolling chassis on to a trailer at lunch and sent it with the first CL guy that contacted me.
cut my bumper off and grabbed some other things but not worth my time i guess to part it out!

52 cab is sittin on the new chassis. front and rear mounts cake. center wont be too bad. it was super tight so i opened up the inner fender wells. steering and everything looks great. Radiator is going to be tricky

14hrs lab in my shop = it was a pain in the fucking dick but a good start to being done right when i get more mig gas.
not much done today by the time i got to the shop. Front bumper cut apart and prepped for install. ECM pulled and packed up to send out tomorrow.

summit order and ebay orders placed, 95% of all components needed for completion ill have next week
dropped ECM to post office to send to LT1
HTR core in and out holes tapped and plugged on the 6.0
52 column pulled, pull all van and all 52 steering parts on the bench. went together great, using most of the van parts adapted to a shortened 52 column. it fell together with no issues and will be awesome. as long as my measurements were right.
had to cut 52 fire wall to get column out as its an assembled unit to the box. 70 year old grease is awesome.
should steer tomorrow.
needs a driver tie rod end.

van steering is really neat.
i ended up using all the parts to make it easy and get around the LS headers.
The shaft tube will bolt to a bracket welded to the frame coil spring mount.
buried in 70 year old grease, there is a 3/4" shaft in the 52 column that adapted right up to van parts / column bearings. turned out awesome.
need to install tonight and make the coil bucket bracket.

gieco quoted a 52 chevy at 175$ every6 months.
i guess if im going to have 4 sets of plates i should run some quotes else where. gieco seems to not give mulit discounts with single drivers.

steering in, brake assembly mount started. looks like the fire wall need some steel to stiffen it up to take a petal assembly. everything was under the floor in the 52 running gear.

ECM came yesterday so i cranked a little on this guy.
hack fired motor with loose wires, started on first try
needed a quick LT1 swap site check to get the DBW to work. lost power somewhere to TCM module. easy fix.
after initial success and motor fire, mounted ECM, TCM
Cleaned up and wrapped engine harness mods
mounted battery
ran wires for ignition relay
ran wires for fan / fuel pump relay
fixed broken temp senor wires
ran heavy gage starter wire
starts with a key and moves with pulling shifter cable.
brakes and steering seem like there is no pressure but i was getting a lot of foam (had to add 2' of hydro boost hard line, opened that system.
brake pedal may need to be extended. steering wheel is BIG
will wait to adjust that to when i get a seat.
exhaust came.
hopfully the upper radiator hose will come today
need to change oil and hook up trans cooler
fluids
finish wiring
add lights wiring
figure out wipers
mount seat
mount throttle petal

i should have to re weigh because im not changing registration class. it is a CC truck, but unknown to them status. i showed him the picture with the plack on the door where i got 6820 from i wrote on all paper work. supervisor said no good, need weigh slip. i was stuck anyway with out the 6th form filled out missing MV51B by sellar since i have not had possession more than 1 year. didnt find that "rule" on the internet.
has high and low beam head lights, and one tail light hooked up right now. if i was not 3 beverages in i would have run it down to the CAT scales, but still need paper from sellar so no rush for another lunch trip.
headlights were also sealed beam 6 volts. swapped for what was in my CJ7 before i replaced them with new. all good.

drove out to Pavalion and met sellar for last paper work filled out hopefully. Cool guy with cool projects in his shop. 5 min from JJs place.
tucked behind apartment till next week. Needs to get scaled then a DMV trip for plates.
needs signal lights finished, horn installed, wipers and probably a new battery to be inspect able. fun to drive!

three 911 calls later, 4 conversations with a deputy, even sat on bumper and tried to wave down patrol cars like a village idiot with no luck.
Finally deputy came out, still having no clear solution or procedure. ended up writting up a full police report that states he acknowleges the vin, vin location, and ran through system with no flags.
better be enough for queen dmv bitch

ill try to investigate first. it shifts really nice and pulls hard. i think its just a leak or seal but its a pretty good drip.
im into it a pan gasket and filter so far. pretty easy to get to on the lift.

the more people i talk to about it, sounds like its super expensive, there are warping and shrinkage issues.
guy at work recommended Norther Edge lumber in rushvill ill call them for rough stuff now that i have a spread sheet (just for Nick) and i know what i actually need

Comparing rough cut oak to PT or fir is like comparing 572 to an Aveo. Well, maybe a TJ to an Aveo.
Install with grain arched up (end view of grain will be arch not U). Bolt at every cross member. if you use wide boards use 2 bolts. Rough sand with 40g on a floor finisher and hit will tompson's sealer. You need to seal the bottom too. That should solve the warp problem. Plan to seal every couple years.
Think about all the gazillion year old barns made of rough lumber without all the metal structure to support the wood. you should be fine.

everyone one of those I have ever seen have resulted in having to use a hammer and prybar to fold/unfold after a few years. Your application may be a bit better since it probably won't see road salt.

That's the hitch we welded into my C&M bed.
It has some hinge pin wear and rocks a little bit after a lot of heavy miles. No folding issues at all and it sees salt. I do hit its grease zerk every year-ish.

Red oak is a LOT cheaper than white oak and a lor harder than pine. If you aren't going to beat on it pine would work. It will ding and split easily though.
Oil will work if you want to go that way.

last 16' of 2x3 put into flat bed so its ready for decking. just need to finish up a little underside welding next time its on the lift, tie downs and hitches. have a plan for bumper pull hitch. still thinking about the goose hitch. probably worrying too much about structural integrity but have a few ideas and want to have a flush or slightly recessed fold down.

i dont think i would use it to pull the big trailer but i want it to have a goose ball. 4.10 gears and a 6.0 should be more than enough to drag some weight around
the deck is actually about what a normal truck would be. For my RAM i have the big trailers gooseneck receiver raised as much as possible to get the nose of the trailer down to the truck. i bet for the 49 it would be fine or need 1 or 2 holes down. its probably very close to mikes truck deck thats 8" lower than my truck.

more rock auto boxes came- i think i couple inner tie rods and rear shocks for 2007 chassis, and wiper blades/arms for the '49

gooseneck hitch and bumper hitch / crash bar welded in. just need some finishing plates and gussets / rings welded on and ready for deck.

missing driver window crank installed
door catch rubber bumpers installed
wiper arms and blades installed
wiper vac actuator torn down, cleaned and re sealed. it works now but doesnt seem to have enough ass to return the wipers. seems to have a ton of power one way. might add a spring or look in to electric swaps. was neat to tear down and reassemble to get working.

picked up a load of white oak today. stopped at Lowe's and for a new circ saw blade and wood bitter sawsall blade. much beer later and a bit of supervision on chips xj, the deck and headake rack is done.
test piece sealed with waste oil, not sure it's what I'm looking for.

all surfaces rolled with waste oil after a couple test pieces provided good results.
deck screwed down
tail lights and plate mount done
signal lights and running lights wired to blinker / hazard switch- all good
mud flaps mounted
should be ready to inspect with some horn and mirror work.

sober guy found the drunk guy forgot the back side of one of the deck boards while it was on the lift tonight- pulled fixed and re attached.
picked up a shifter seal for the trans tonight as that seemed to be the only potential source for trans leak area- pulled NSW and noticed the pressure service port plug finger tight and freshly leaking stream. easy fix yeah!
did some finish welding in the under side of the bed while it was in the air, fixed some steering line abrasion issues, added a front body mount to support the front clip as it would be on the 49 chassis after finding metal 1/64" away from power steering lines at box in let.
needs headliner put in or serous clean/prep. rust falling on head and seat is annoying. took to lunch today for first real drive with lights and such.
horn switch and mirrors ordered and on the way.
bed looks great after a day in the sun to soak up the waste oil.

10 miles into my buffalo trip today i decided it be wise to stop at the first rest stop and pick up a 4 pack of 1" ratchet straps and throw one over the hood. at 70 she was hopping around a little bit!
runs down the thruway like a dream. :)

I saw a couple options when I searched, I figured that was the most likely.

found at least 3 nails and 2 plugs so far in the tires on this unit and the fronts are dry cracking. probably keep an eye out for some rubber soon!

had to drill out all hardware anyway so no need for the bits.....
some creative farmer thinking and glass changed both sides.
next time i think ill spend the 300$ instead of 90$ for the panes in frames already.... or just do what i should have done and bought a truck with good glass....

The Hagerty agent asked what I was going to be using the truck for and I evidently made the mistake / was honest enough to say "Load up some surfboards and go surfing for the weekend at the beach" and his response was an immediate "Umm, wrong answer, we can't cover you; NO type of hauling is allowed, much less leaving the truck outside overnight away from an enclosed and locked garage; even parking garages are disallowed.

well, sorry that contradicts the documentation in my policy- its also clearly stated on there website. no mileage limits either. my storage conditions were also accepted.
they do require proof of insurance of the other vehicles i own, and evaluated that i have 4 tags and one house hold driver. its also an agreed value so at 4K, i dont think they are too stringent.
if for sale id list it for 10-12K however.
if i would have clamed it to be 45K im sure they would have looked a bit harder at it.

JJ had a spare pair of OEM ls headers so i ran out and grabbed them. swapped out the blown in half passenger side with new gaskets and bolts. was much easier than i was preparing for.
got a 3" walker Muffler put in today, much more tolerable exhaust note and way more derivable now.
also got the van ebrake petal assembly installed and hooked up, working.
ready for next inspection attempt.

fun fact, with two engine hoists each hooked to driver and passenger front door latches on center pillars of a 4 door XJ, it balances pretty good to pick up 4' and back the 49 under! duals hit the lift arms the jeep grill was only 2' from the headake rack
jeep was on blocks no axles or motor, picked it up for free.
98 4dr missing axles and motor. good trans/case/interior/title. lots of treasures buried in it!

had some interested buyers this week. One was supper enthustiac then dropped off face of planet. Another guy came and lot test drove, seemed not interested. wanted to put a saw mill on it for in job site work. He really liked the flat bed but didnt seem interested in the truck condition or detail.

Hey Mike. Just joined your forum and was perusing this thread. I know truck is gone now, but the quoted info is 100% true on a DBW setup. I figured this out on my own with the wiring schematics on my MDT. The mentioned wires go into the TAC module. 2 toggle switches on the dash. It's a dream.

this guy called me yesterday to set up a time to look at the two new trucks. said he sold 5 cars at Carlisle this past show and did very well. He sold the first 49 to a landscape guy that pulls an excavator every day with it lol
